The waiters and kitchen team seem capable enough, but management is a verbal harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. Their to-go system is particularly rife with negligence. I witnessed packaged pasta orders growing cold on the counter, while the delivery driver was spoken to condescendingly and eventually yelled at by a manager (potentially an owner) for wanting permission to take her customer's package and be on her way.I spotted another review that mentions a manager losing his temper over the phone, so this appears to be a pattern. With so many restaurants to choose from in L.A., why settle for one whose management treats people this way?

Made a reservation online but had to wait around half an hour to be seated. Once our table was ready we were sent to a separate room that didn't even have any customers in it when we entered, so my boyfriend and I were a little confused about the wait. The food and service after being seated was great. The appetizers were paced for us to enjoy one by one, which I appreciated. And a man who I believe is one of the owners visited our table multiple times to crack jokes and check up on our dining experience.Ambience is definitely more on the classy side. My boyfriend and I felt a little awkward since most of the others dining were dressed nicely, and we're a young couple who showed up in jeans and a T-shirt.

I have eaten here for more than 40years and I always appreciate the warm welcome of Mario and the superb culinary wizardry of Sal Also Sal is probably the most knowledgeable of all chefs in LA when it comes to wine Go there expecting the best and enjoy
Be the first to ReplyFood and Service is incredible.
Sal certainly finds the best pairing for exceptional wines. This is truly one of Los Angeles Italian restaurant gems. My favorite thing to do is just let the Chef create their own specialties with the freshest ingredients they sourced for the day. Must try!

If the vermillion (fish) is on the menu, order it! The cauliflower pasta is not to be missed. We met old friends there for lunch and it was the best meal we had during our week in LA. Granted, our friend has been eating here for years, and the service was attentive and fun. Still, the food!!! We've eaten a lot of good Italian food over the years - here and in Italy. The food at Marino ranks right up there. The sauces and light and full of flavor. The portions are generous without being overwhelming (hello most mediocre red sauce joints). The leisurely pace of a Friday afternoon lunch, filled with satisfying food, left us transported to Italy. We could have stayed and continued into dinner.....

Very much enjoyed the food here, ambiance is nice, definitely upper class feels and service is minus a star, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great.Let's stick to the positives - the food and drinks!I like the half bottle of wine option, we went for thr Barbara D'Asti and it was a good not too heavy red wine to start the meal. With my meal i had a glass of Côte de Rhones and it was so yummy! A touch of sweetness and felt a little cold, not room temperature which I prefer. My dish was the parpadelle bolognese and I loved it. Somehow the bowl trapped the heat cause I felt like every time I'd dig down and scoop up there'd be steam coming out, amazing...I loved it, enjoyed the dish more because it didn't ever cool off. Felt the meat and sauce was a good ratio to the wide noodles. The flavor was so enjoyable and dipping bread into this sauce was divine. I really liked this dish and would get it again. I also had enough to take home, score! LolMy companion got the truffle gnocchi, it was delicious. It is a heavy dish, as our waiter informed and she confirmed but that's not a reason not to get it, just what to expect with gnocchi and creamy truffle. The dark truffle is scraped over the dish like they do with fresh cheese and then the smaller pieces just melted in, mmm. The sauce in this dish is a total winner, buttery and again, perfect for dipping the bread into. And yes! They give bread! Extra star just for that lol. An Italian restaurant staple. We thought it wasn't going to happen here cause it came out randomly like ten minutes later but I was still very happy and they were totally cool with refilling the basket ;) We ended with shots of limoncello, one of my favorites and these were perfection. Served chilled in a mini flute . The perfect way to end this meal :)

We spend a lot on New Year's Eve dinners but this year at Marino's was one was unforgettable. From the impeccable service to the outstandingly tasty food, you understand why Marino's has been around for so long. And long may it last! The love that Chef Sal put into every single course, you could taste in every single delicious bite of food that was tasty yet innovative. I don't come from LA but you can be sure that I will return if just for a meal here! Grazie!

From my first visit to my second, this place kind of turned into a caricature of itself. The first time, I was charmed by the old school vibe (Rat Pack, Dan Tana's). The food was quite good and our waiter was exceptionally professional. The host was extremely welcoming, and I found the whole experience very continental. On our second visit about 6 mos later, the host seemed overwhelmed and irritable, and leaned on well-practiced one-liners to make himself appear congenial. Our waiter was humorless and disinterested, and the food was merely passable. I also noticed that the lighting is dreadful and the decor needs a fresh eye. Basically, the more you look, the more you see. And not in a good way.

Can't wait to go back. Italian food done right. Highly recommend. Only thing I would change is crisp the ducks breast fat.

What a horrible experience ordering delivery from this place. The Uber eats driver cancels the delivery (still trying to figure out why) then when speaking to the manager on the phone because we placed the order again get accused of trying to get the food for free. The manager starts raising his voice. Very unprofessional.

Incredible service and incredible cocktails. The food was delicious as well.
Be the first to ReplyIt has been years since i've been to Marino.
I went for lunch yesterday and I am sorry it has been so long. Mario was so friendly and explained the covid challenges the restaurant faced. I ordered the linguine alle vongole (my favorite pasta dish) and it came out piping hot with plenty of clams. It was one of the best renditions that I have ever tasted. It won't be years before I return again.

I've been here for 3 to 4 times and honest opinion; I'm not sure if it worths the bill.If you want to give it a try the squash blossoms and the tiramisu is a must have! Like the squash blossoms was the best thing I've eaten there so far.I got the creamy truffle gnocchi and not the best pasta I've tried. Overall it was not a bad experience, it's quite alright but compared to pricing I would expect a better pasta experience or a service for sure. The waiter was kind of rushing us, that was not cool.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant had the most amazing Italian food I have
This restaurant had the most amazing Italian food I have tasted in a long while. But this review is about the passive racism that I encountered which frequenting this space. As the CAO of a Charter school system, I decided to treat my team to a nice dinner. I work with the staff that had countless tech issues to book a reservation for a part of 12. Once this was squared away, we all arrived and where seated the lead at the restaurant came and was looking for the person that booked the reservation. He called out my name but immediately look at the non-person of color male on the team. Once he identify that I was the individual he was looking for her came and immediately asked " how did you find us?... what made you pick us?" Looking around at the other patrons in the restaurant it is evident that they had a crowd that was primarily Caucasian. This was reflective not only in the patrons but also in the staff that would easily be identified in this race category based numerous factors. With that I mentioned that I did a google search and identified a restaurant that met my criteria based on reviews, for pairs and intimacy. He soon left and returned later to lap everyone's napkins. Which was a nice gesture but also came with a sly comment. " oh i know this is not something that you can experience in the district". I reminded them that we are a charter management organization. Not to mention we all have advanced degrees and are committed to our crafts and the advancement of free education for all student. I was really taken aback by the experience which over showed the great food.

Had not been here in a minute, but was delighted to see Mario as wonderful as usual. His bubbly personality made us feel like we had never stopped going. Due to Covid we had not been here and so coming back was an experience for sure. We started with the Zuccini flowers which were on point. So good they just melt in your mouth, with the ricotta in perfect consistency as it danced in our mouths with hints of rosemary and subtle spices.Next the Veal witch was smothered in a wonderful white wine sauce and mushrooms. So wonderful one could almost want to drink the left over sauce. Then we had the Lobster Fettuccine which was heavenly. The sauce , spices and lobster were in perfect harmony and paired well with our wine. For dessert we had the creme puffs and a Cafe late and well what can I say everything was sinfully delicious. A visit to this restaurant is always a religious experience due to the staff and quality of food. Mario thank you for always being so amazing.
Be the first to ReplyWe love your restaurant.
We order from there quite a bit. AND EVERY TIME YOU DO NOT SEAL THE PIZZA BOXES.PLEASE seal the pizza boxes. I'm tired of calling and asking you to do it because your staff always says 'we do' and/or 'we will' yet you don't ... and you don't. So for the love of respect your customers and in the name of sanitation: SEAL YOUR BOXES. Thank you.

Came in for an early birthday dinner last night and couldn't have been more pleased. Food, atmosphere, service were all incredible. The chef, Sal, came out and introduced himself to us, and gave recommendations to my vegan wife. She loved all of them. Portions are much bigger than expected. Flavors are refined and not over or under seasoned. The seafood in my linguine pescado was some of the best I've had, specifically the shrimp and scallops. The chef came out again at the end and brought free birthday dessert with him- tiramisu for the non vegans, and incredible lemon sorbet for my wife (so thoughtful!).Will be back again and again.
Be the first to ReplyI ordered takeout from here and it was phenomenal.
My girlfriend and I got the calamari and you could tell it was quality because it maintained its crispiness even after the 15 minute ride home. The garlic bread was incredible - next time I'm ordering double just so that I can have some more later. For entrees we got the cacio e pepe and the shrimp linguine and they were both delicious. The portion sizes were large for the pasta which is always a big thing for me because I like a big plate of food. Highly recommend the restaurant and I look forward to dining in there soon.

Just a great place the likes of which are very hard to experience. Mario is the perfect host, warm, and inviting. The food coming from Sal's kitchen is superb.Four of us dined last night. 'Raw cauliflower and mushroom. Wonderful flavorful starter. Crunch and tasteful mushrooms accented by pistachios and dressing.'Tuna tartare and avocado. A great combination bringing out the best of all products. Sal has a deft hand with produce that is incomparable to what one may suffer with elsewhere.'Snapper Crudo. This place is fabulous for flavorful crudo complimented by great tasting raw spicy greens that were very well dressed .Pasta with Shrimps and Scallops. What a great dish accented by superb tomato sauce that complimented the fresh, sweet seafood through great application of shallots.Cod and Branzino entrees. First place goes to the Cod,superbly prepared and accompanied by a sumptuous mushroom and spinach combination. A warm goodbye from Mario and Sal had us feeling that we were welcomed to their family.Needless to say we shall return
Be the first to ReplyHorrible place and will never go there again.
Way to crowded, horrible horrible service, food quality is horredous, and waited for 45 minutes to sit down with reservations. Our waiter was not helpful what so ever, left our table multiple times not asking if we would like to order. Took over 25 minutes for us to finally order when we were ready within 5 min. I will never reccomend this place to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyThe free-standing little building has been there for
The free-standing little building has been there for decades but the most important thing to know about the history of marino ristorante is that the food is excellent and perfectly prepared from scratch. And in all the decades we have eaten there, that means every singe bite. That also means that I've eaten many large pieces of grilled octopus, cippolini onion and peppers anti pasti, pappardelle bolognese, bread heels and ricotta cheesecake over the years. It probably is a long time since the cabinets featuring anti pasti stood right inside the door. That is until now and specifically this week. New dishes to try match the spiffed up interior, which is new this year. The look is very cool, black and white, very spare. We were touched to sit at one of the two back tables of honor with ghosts of the Paramount Studio high executives, who used to lunch there. Comfy black leather banquettes still line the side and front wall, with tables in the middle of the restaurant. The new dishes on the February 2022 menu did not disappoint: We had to try the crust di mare, since it was Sal who introduced the concept to LA. Crudo di Mare arrived on a rectangular plate half wild Japanese snapper crudo, sprigs wild arugula with slivered radish underneath. ($22)Marino Salad of chopped mix greens, (almost inpercepable) eggplant caponata, salami, cheese and legumes. This is a chopped salad lover's dream. ($19)The lamb papparadelle was sublime and still rustic enough with braised lamb sumo ($28). Chef Sal was kind enough to invite us into the kitchen to show how it was made at the end of lunch hour, meaning the fresh ingredients and seasonings, the slow braise and the care.Mario Marino, shares responsibilities in front of the house, and always makes you feel like family. Younger brother Sal (former owner-chef of Il Grano, La Bottega Marino), oversees the kitchen. Sal is famous as a wine expert and high level wine tastings take place regularly. Marino is one of two dozen restaurants in Los Angeles to garner awards from Italian associations, which means passing an extensive series of rigorous tests. They just got another one last week. I love cultural history and immigrant stories, and now second generation operated ethnic restaurants, Dad Ciro (who passed away in 2009) created Marino Ristorante as an old school formal dining room in 1979. He first waved us into his place with such enthusiasm when we were walking down the street from a event, and we were regulars from them on. He raised his sons right.
