Exactly one year ago today I dined with Maze.
I am shocked to hear the restaurant closed down. Overall the restaurant was beautiful and the service was outstanding. I had no complaints whatsoever with the food or location. The biggest problem I had with the restaurant is the fact it didn't have any waiting room and you had to stand awkwardly while waiting for the table to be ready. Otherwise I had no problems and felt my service was lovely.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I came here for his birthday.
We love Chief Ramsay's shows, so wanted to finally try his food. We had no problem getting a reservation on a Friday night at 8:30 pm. We got here 1/2 hour early, the hostess had us wait at the bar and didn't seat US until 8:30... oh well, we had hoped to get seated earlier. This place connects to the lobby of the London hotel, so the dress code can be casual. We knew that it was going to be expensive so we limited our cocktail drink to 1 each ($17-19 per drink). They were good, not too sweet. The food was good but it took FOREVER to serve between courses!!!! I thought we were guests of Hells Kitchen. While it was a nice experience, they need to work on the timing.

Good riddance! Gordon Ramsay must have forgotten he opened this place. I think he remembers now.
Be the first to ReplyNice restaurant and pretty ambiance at the only restaurant
Nice restaurant and pretty ambiance at the only restaurant at The London NYC. Like the look of it but service can be very slow (at times, non-existent) and the food is often cold by the time it makes it to your table (perhaps it is sitting in the kitchen too long and the staff isn't paying attention and bringing it out right away?). Either way, not the greatest place for breakfast. However, for dinner and cocktails, it transforms into a much nicer lounge. So skip breakfast here and come in the evening for a drink.

I came here with a high expectation because, you guessed it, Chef Ramsay. The food was alright, my sister and I got the 3 course meal. The mushroom soup was delicious at first, then after the 5th bite, we was kind of bored of it. The scallop was really salty, but the dessert was excellent. The service was kind of slow, but everyone was nice. I recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolute worst dining experience of my life.
The service was slow, food average, prices high and Maze thought it was okay to seat twin two year old boys that literally screamed and threw silverware. We got up and left mid meal. I am extremely disappointed. It is baffling that the restaurant did nothing to address the issue. When we asked for our check the boys screamed so loud our waiter was startled. The most appalling part is we asked for our check to be charged for food we didn't receive. It was an argument to pay for what we ate which was two small plates, soup, water and one beer which was over $100. We left with a headache and hungry.

The environment was classy and fun with a fairly unique color scheme for a restaurant which I appreciated. I liked the feeling of the space and overall really enjoyed being there. I went for brunch which was surprisingly straightforward but mostly (yes, mostly) delightful. I had an herbed, goat cheese omelette that was a bit mild but all together rather lovely and perfectly cooked. The entire reason I'm taking away a star; however, is over a side of potatoes. I've had home fries in countless diners and make them at home a decent amount and typically they range from delicious to decent. These; however, were shockingly dry, chewy and reminded me of something I'd get at some generic buffet. Normally I'd not fuss about it, but come on, GORDON RAMSAY, how can you not make a crispy, salty side of potato cubes? My date's duck hash was really nice, for what it's worth. Certainly worth checking out.
Be the first to ReplyI was a bit apprehensive after reading about the service,
I was a bit apprehensive after reading about the service, but we actually had three very attentive and polite waiters. I was pleased to see a Tasting Menu on there, and $60 for four courses is not bad. Wine by the glass was pricey, at $18. Coffee and Tea were $6. Dinner started with a delicious creamy mushroom soup that went perfectly with the baguette. Second course was a crispy eggplant parmesan. Third course was the seared scallops over parsnip puree, and they were sizeable scallops! Dessert was the chocolate lava cake. I was absolutely stuffed. We were not in a rush, and I felt like the courses were evenly spaced.
Be the first to ReplyA friend and I went there for lunch and we were expecting
A friend and I went there for lunch and we were expecting an extremely fancy and crowded restaurant that requires a reservation a week or further ahead. It wasn't extremely fancy but rather casual and I felt comfortable wearing jeans and a button-up shirt. And no reservation was necessary. The menu was surprisingly simple, like less than a dozen items to choose from and the price was wonderfully cheap. I had had a dinner the previous day at a semi-fancy French restaurant in NYC at a $60+ price. At MAZE, it cost about one third that price. In NYC, you pay $10+ for fast food but $20-$30 for a course meal is an amazing deal. The dishes were somewhat simple but the quality and taste were great. The portion was more than good for the prices we paid. The staff were not too talkative and made us wait even before we order. So the services seemed a bit slow but it was overall great experience.

All I'm saying is I fully expected to see Chef Ramsey run in the door and scream what the f@#*^k have you done to my restaurant? We hated the opening impression so much, we left!! And when asked why we said the menu was no good, we got an agreement and two recommendations to other places to go!
Be the first to ReplyA terrible pick for our 10 year anniversary.
We were hoping to go somewhere special and really treat ourselves to a nice night out. Unfortunately, the atmosphere seemed like a glorified diner. Too many booths and not enough ambiance. The menu was limited and the service was AWFUL. We could never find our waiter. He also barely spoke English - so was confused by our order, brought the wrong food and when asked what was in our pasta - he described it as a risotto. (It was pasta with octopus.) Our dinner took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish - way too long for an overpriced, mediocre meal. Would NOT recommend this place!!
