I enjoyed the ambiance here, the music is good
I enjoyed the ambiance here, the music is good (Blues-Rock), and there's a fairly extensive mocktail menu-- which I think makes it a perfect casual first date spot, as I didn't feel pressured to get a cocktail and the Hungarian "Old-fashion" that I had was quite tasty.

This was one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant in LA. The restaurant was nearly empty. However when my mother and I came in with my baby between 5 to 6pm, not only were we not greeted, we were actively ignored. We sat there for 20 minutes as exactly no one said hello or explained anything to us. If they didn't allow babies/children they just needed to tell us and we would have left. Instead the one server we saw flirted with people while clearly seeing we were there and the bartender avoided eye contact with us. We felt unwelcome and bewildered. It was truly the Twilight zone. I do not recommend this place at all.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a fun, casual, but upscale/vibey place.
I love coming here with my neice. The space is big but feels cozy and the look of it feels so fun. The drinks are also fabfab. Theyve go tthe fancy cocktails we like. My one complaint is the parking is the area is horrible, but thats to be excpeted with Melrose area

It was my birthday dinner, but we never made it to the food as the service was poor and the attitude of our server was unkind. And when we tried to order multiple drinks from the happy hour menu, the server indicated that those drinks were unavailable. With such a poor experience, we left!

Amazing tacos. Overall a good experience so try it out
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite place to wind down my week.
Every Friday I come here and have the best service by Hunter and the rest of the staff. The wine is my favorite and the atmosphere is filled with chill people living their best lives. Some doing business, some influencing, everyone enjoying their time and space. I would highly recommend-- especially for their beautifully crafted cocktails. They also have a happy hour that I would hit up if you're in the area Tuesday- Friday from 5-7pm. Well worth it!!!

Pretty cool place! Had dinner and drinks with a friend there yesterday. We sat in the outdoor patio space. Very relaxing and visually appealing. I wasn't sure what to drink so the server recommended a margarita which was excellent. I had a burger for dinner and it was tasty. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. Will definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was pretty good.
I would say the guac and chips were so yummy. The drinks were nice and strong - would recommend even if you're just grabbing drinks! The service was good for the most part (except it took about 30 minutes before we finally got water) Loved the ambiance - it had a unique character because it wasn't all modernized.

I came in on a Saturday evening and magically got seats at the bar. I ordered a non alcoholic drink and my friends all ordered some cocktails. Everyone loved their drink. It was a good atmosphere and I want to come back!
Be the first to ReplyGeorge the bartender, here is so good.
This is a shout out to them because not all bartenders are suave, chill, quick AND good at making drinks. I love taking my meetings here. The rustic, loungje vibe is a perfect chill ambience with a great drink menu. I recommend the Buffalo cauliflower from their small bits menu. I needed a caffeine boost before cocktails and George made me a Mushroom Mocha that hit the spot. They also have a great patio that's open for private events. I love it. Cute little spot.

The weathered ambiance with pull you in like a blanket and cover you with awesome Cali vibes. Service was impeccable & the food grabbed every tastebud. Absolutely divine!

Came here late on a Sunday night as nothing else nearby was open. The vibe was lively and the decor with umbrellas on the wall and vintage items was really cute. There is a nice back patio but it was closed for the winter. I had an espresso martini and chicken tacos which were both well done. However the service was pretty awful, it felt like a self-serve fast food restaurant. We were a group of 5. No one greeted us. We were told to just sit wherever and order at the bar. We found 2 small tables and pushed them together. We waited for someone to clear the dirty glasses and napkins from previous guests, but no one did. Eventually we cleared the table ourselves... We ordered our drinks at the bar. They would not allow us to pay separately and we had to start a tab, fine. We ordered our food from the bartender as well. We wanted water. No one came to serve us. Eventually, I found large pitchers of water and clean glasses by the kitchen so I grabbed them myself and brought them to the table. it was busy so we didn't want to rush them, we just kept an eye on the bar to wait for our drinks to come out (the bartender told us he wouldn't bring the drinks to us, we have to come to the bar to get them). We waited more than 15 mins and none of our drinks were ready which was weird. Later, going to the washroom, my friend noticed all our drinks were sitting by the side of the bar. No one told us that is where we have to go collect them. Because the drinks had been sitting there for 15+ minutes, the ice had started to melt and some drinks became watered down :( After a long time the tacos came out (for once the tacos were actually brought to our table...) but without napkins. We had to flag someone down for napkins. Honestly, the whole thing was quite commical by that point... Also there are just 2 single stall washrooms and one of them had no hand soap, EW... So I had to go in the men's one (has a urinal and smelled SO BAD in there). This place is really nice inside and the food/drinks were actually good, but the lack of service and cleanliness really took away from the experience :( Hopefully they were just having an off night...
Be the first to ReplyHorrible place with pathetic service.
They make you stand around even with empty tables and the bartender is rude and busy flirting with girls. Avoid this place.
Be the first to ReplyToday was my second visit to this establishment.
It is so adorable inside that I really wanted to like it, which is why I decided to give a second a chance - but this place is a heavy, major scene, and it doesn't matter if it's busy or not...the staff here do not give a f#-€£ about your experience. If all you want is to be seen in a scene, then like, OMG this is like, SOOOO your place to IG your cocktail. Do not go here if the quality of your experience matters whatsoever.

The atmosphere was everything I wanted from a Melrose restaurant. The drinks were good and the food was too. With that being said they weren't worth the price.

Solid drinks and great food, considering it's more of a bar vibe than atmosphere. The music is good, seating and people watching are fun and if you catch a bar seat the bartenders are mostly friendly. My only note is on the inconsistent customer service, it seems like they have new staff often and that can effect the vibe when employees are rude/too busy to take an order
Be the first to ReplyThis bar was recommended by a friend and I was excited to
This bar was recommended by a friend and I was excited to go. The atmosphere and decor gave rustic American vibes. The service was severely disappointing and frankly, appalling. My husband had been in line at the bar to order drinks with a few people in front of him and 2 people behind him. By the time it was his turn to order, he ended up putting in a drink order 2 separate times with the same bartender. Each time, the bartender gave my husband hostility by saying, "well, I have more orders in front of you" without any mention of taking down his order. My husband was met with no eye contact, no welcome/greeting to the bar, or any interest in taking his order. By the time my husband attempted to order with the second bartender since he believed the first bartender to be too busy to take his order down, he was met with the same type of service. At this point, the drink line had been fulfilled and people behind him had already received their drinks. By his last, and fourth attempt to put in his FIRST order (more than 20 minutes later), the seating had a few chairs available at the bar. The second bartender demanded he not sit there as there was a woman who was coming back (she had taken all her things and drinks to move to a separate table/to the dance floor). All of this, still being met with hostility, no eye contact, or intention to take his order. As I do not want to make this a DISCRIMINATION issue, this was what he was given. My husband is Hispanic, I am Asian, and everyone else in the line ordering drinks was White. Needless to say, due to the absurd and discriminatory treatment my husband was given, we will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyWent to Melrose tonight as we used to love it.
No line and great music so we were expecting a really fun night and were excited to hang. We were waiting to order and the bartender truly seemed to be on a different planet. The bar was essentially empty (strange for 10:45pm) and we waited patiently while the bartender very slowly served people who got there after us. We finally went to a different part of the bar and he took our order but midway through making our drinks he left the bar, and came to the other side to say hi to people who had just arrived. Literally he had poured the drinks into the shakers and just left them there. At this point it had been 20-25 min at a basically empty bar so we just walked out. I totally get saying hi and being a social bartender but when you're clearly understaffed and people are waiting at least finish the orders you started. I now understand why this place was empty on a Friday night. Disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyVery cute place, limited menu but what they have works.
I tried the backyard burger, was very delish although the "special sauce" didn't seem over the top, I was expecting a big bang. The waitress was absolutely amazing, she had the whole back section to herself but she kept a great attitude the whole time.

The drinks are decent but check your credit card when you go here! two days after I saw charges on my credit card that were not approved from this bar and I assume some bartender tried to charge me more than what I actually ordered or tried to adjust the tip amount. That's very shady.
Be the first to ReplyI've always loved the ambiance of this small and cozy bar
I've always loved the ambiance of this small and cozy bar but the service is so poor it really kills the experience. My friends and I stopped by for a drink around 9pm on a Tuesday night and it took 25+ minutes to receive our first round of (3) drinks with almost no one else in the bar. I've had slow service here before but usually when there was a large crowd. Tonight made it clear that the service is just truly slow. We also ordered a couple of espresso martinis and they were very bitter and not smooth at all. I've had so many (amazing) espresso martinis in LA and these sadly weren't up to par. The sweet waitress comped the martinis, but then the new drinks also took an extended time to receive. It was a bummer and honestly I'm not sure I'll return.

The toasted sesame bun was a lovely flavor to it And I'm so bummed I can't remember my bartenders name who pours the beer in the above vid, but he was super nice and a good bartender And Shaun another one was also very nice and cute! All in all I left incredibly satisfied, what amazing they have such a selection, not just burgers but tamales, tacos and more! And you could come in and spend expensive if you want but if you want to save money it's totally possible here too!And to be able to do that in a gorgeous restaurant makes me very happy lolDef one of my new spots!
Be the first to ReplyThey dropped the ball this year on Christmas.
.. few sad little trees around the bar, not sure if they even have decorations. Some nutcrackers outside. 4 Christmas cocktails of which 1 of them is not available, one of them is mulled wine so not sure if it even qualifies as Christmas cocktail, the other two are buttered rum (tasteless) and eggnog (ok but not the best). Not sure why they don't partner with Christmas bar organizers like Blitzen. We came in a big group all dressed up in ugly sweaters but once we realized there was no Christmas theme as was advertised, we left immediately. Service was awful too with only one server for the entire bar and slow bartenders. Very disappointing experience this year, they are the grinch
Be the first to ReplyI decided to go get a cocktail with some visiting family
I decided to go get a cocktail with some visiting family and I had passed by Melrose Umbrella one night and was told by the door guy up front to come in and check them out sometime. With that in mind, and some good press I read beforehand I suggested Melrose Umbrella company. When we approached it was the opposite reception I had when I was a literal passerby, it was a curt and standoffish greeting. After we got carded we went up to the bar. Our cocktail of choice is an Old Fashioned and as we waited to get the attention of one of the two bartenders but they were chatting and dancing to notice us, it got to the point that it got uncomfortable just waiting/wondering if we were being ignored. One of them finally deigned to ask us what we wanted and my BiL said a Rye Old Fashioned. The bartender pulled out a bottle with a clear liquid and poured that first, I thought maybe it was some simple syrup and turned around to look for a table. We found one, claimed it and went back to the bar to get our Old Fashioneds. Our drinks were clear, if you're confused by that I was as well. My BiL asked, "what is this?""A White Old Fashioned."The bartender heard 'white' and not 'Rye' so made an Old Fashioned with tequila instead of Rye whiskey.Never mind the fact that he didn't clarify if he was confused, but Occam's Razor, the simplest answer is probably the best, when you hear Old Fashioned why wouldn't you think Rye first? Also, isn't it called a Oaxacan Old Fashioned when it's made with tequila? When it became clear that the bartender had messed up, he actually said to try it because it's a good drink...but if we really wanted to he could make us what we actually ordered. My brother in law, being the cooler head said it's fine and closed us out. We definitely weren't going to get another drink this visit and I definitely have no desire to come back to give this establishment another shot at all.
