Used to go here all the time when I was an executive at the studios. On a whim, the wife and I drove over from our home in the hills. The place was the same other than a new extension into the parking lot. The food was also not the issue. What we got was reasonably good. What was deeply disappointing, injurious, and incredible was the service as well as the follow-up. Shortly after we sat down (in the parking lot addition), a waiter (or busser) behind me poured red hot coffee down my back. I think he tripped (a parking lot is not a dance floor) while carrying a large pot of it on a tray. It was so hot and unexpected, however, it felt like I'd been stabbed. I somewhat comically shot up out of my seat, almost turning over the table. My wife was so surprised she literally teeter-tottered and almost fell off her chair. I suppose it was about half a cup, but it immediately burned right through my shirt (enough to get blisters the next day). Ok. So, accidents happen. I'm a big boy and a 2nd-degree burn, and a stained shirt is not the end of the World. I'm also relatively easy to please. A glass of wine and a bit of empathy go a long way in my book. What was incredible was the reaction or lack thereof from either the staff or management. Our waiter did eventually mutter an apology but only after I complained about the total lack of reaction. He then begrudgingly suggested he bring me some ice. This arrived sometime later in a plastic shopping bag. I'm not exactly a giant baby, but when I applied the ice I groaned a bit. The waiters' response. "Yeah, buddy...nothing like a nice bag of ice huh?" That was a bit perplexing. Anyway. That was it. Nothing else. The manager/owner (Henry) later turned up and asked us how everything was and if we needed any more bread. I was sitting hunched over with a shopping bag of ice pressed up against my back dribbling all over the floor, (the ice, not me). Maybe he thought that was normal? It was a warm evening. Regardless, my response was suitably icy. We asked for the check, paid, and fled before something else damaged us further. Ok. So, the next day I can't quite get over the experience and I'm a little pissed about the stain all over my nice dress shirt so, against my wife's always better judgment, I called Henry and left a message. He called back and was actually very understanding! He offered to replace the shirt. Even offered to treat us to dinner! I felt a lot better. I told my wife Henry was great! I was going to send him a bill for a new shirt, we were getting a free feed! She smiled sagely and told me the proof was in the pudding... Sadly, she was correct. It's been weeks since I sent the bill for a new shirt. Crickets. I feel kinda cheap chasing down a shirt but surely Henry hasn't forgotten? Or is the proof indeed in the Mistral pudding? Talk is cheap nowadays and telling people what they maybe want to hear and then doing nothing seems to be the thing...so goes Mistral. Shame. I remember it back in the day. It was a great place. Was...
