After being invited to a dinner here, I think I lowered my expectations of the meal a half dozen times. I read the site - no refunds, no substitutions, no PHONE NUMBER!?! - and concluded that the evening would be an expensive but mediocre (food-wise) way to enjoy time with good friends.I was entirely wrong. The place is lovely, the team is charming, and the food was absolutely original and delicious. All of it. Start to finish. To be fair, this is NOT Brigsten's. The meal is family-style. The food is far less polished - but also far friendlier. This is the kind of food that lights up the room, gets everyone interacting, laughing, drinking... because there isn't an overpowering sense of fussiness and formality. Lots of "Try this!!" and "Oh wow, what is that?"My sense is that food quality and originality really haven't kept up with fancier and fancier decor and presentation and prices... and I find that much more interesting food lives at the middle of the price spectrum; Dian Xin, Kin (RIP), Silk Road, etc... So, expectations only fell with a $150 per-person price tag (no drinks). This place breaks that idea to pieces. It feels like maybe they actually do have a better way of running a restaurant... or a business... Not because of the employee-platitudes-slash-marketing-gestures that wax and wane, but because you can tell they are doing something really different. Something thoughtful.I didn't get it. Any of it. Then I went. Now I do... and I like it.
