My fiancé took me here to celebrate International Women's Day. We were seated on the second floor, which was wonderful because of the intimate lighting and fewer crowds than on the first floor. The service was wonderful, although the hostess's greeting at the front felt a bit cold. The food was delicious, especially the lamb tartare, which I tried for the first time. The potatoes were included with almost every dish, which was great because I love them. We ordered potatoes as a side dish as well, but it was too much, and we couldn't even finish it. The Farro dish wasn't that good for either of us. Overall, the experience was good, and we would definitely come back.

The services was top tier and also the food were very delicious though a little bet pricey but worth it. I highly recommend the place.

Had a nice Valentine's dinner here after the original plan fell through. The food, service and ambiance were wonderful. Planning to come back soon. Everything we ordered was delicious. The highlights are the Hokkaido Uni, Milk bread, and short ribs. Highly recommend these. Hokkaido Uni: the sea urchin was fresh, pairs perfectly toasted brioche with pomegranate/chickpea spread. Milk bread: better version of Hawaiian roll with wonderful house made butter. Still craving for this! Basteeya: i like that it was well mixed of flavor of duck, apples/pear and almonds. It's a good portion for two after the previous two appetizers. Short ribs: ordered 1/2 portion and it was plenty for two. The presentation was beautiful and the ribs were tender and perfectly seasoned. I recommend this for main dish. For desserts: ordered Puffs and Sesame. Both are good. Loved how light the donuts are, paired well with their lemon honey, and chocolate dip. Sesame dessert is highly recommended. It's not too sweet, sesame and dark chocolates paired well together and the presentation was beautiful. It's a unique one.

Came here to have a celebratory dinner and the food was amazing along with the general ambiance inside! The short rib was so soft and was a generous portion for the two of us. The drinks we ordered also were so decorated and pretty. This place has everything from great food to a nice atmosphere and I can't wait to be back

Hadn't been back in awhile and just wanted to say it's as good as ever! A couple standouts: SALMON squash . sungold & cherry . tomato consomme . east african spice STRIPED BASS saffron . mushroom escabeche . red charmoula It was all good though - dangerously addicting pecans and olives, couscous and puffs. Didn't get the lamb and short ribs this time but recall them being excellent. Such a gorgeous restaurant and a serious treat. Service was thoughtfully hands-off, respectful of our dinner discussion.
Be the first to ReplyHave not been there for couple of years since Pandemic.
Yesterday I was back there with couple of friends, everything still looks familiar. The feeling was good and relaxed. Food was great, service as well. Surrounding outside area is much better than I thought. I would strongly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid this place.
It used to be good but management changed and some people that haven't been to Morocco in their life are in charge of the kitchen. The food here is hyper unbalanced, fancy looking but actually tasteless. The overall theme is that the food is too sweet. But not only that, everything we ordered was disappointing for a group of 4 experienced diners in Michelin starred restaurants. The waiter was Jeff and he's detached passive aggressive attitude belongs somewhere else. He was rushed, he didn't attend properly to the table, we had to call him four different times, and he made completely inappropriate remarks, like saying "you finished your piece" to us telling him that we disliked the duck. We ordered many dishes and there isn't one that was really worth it at all, they were all lacking in many ways. Honestly, just avoid this place. It's lacking in tasty food and good service, and it honestly spoiled our dinner.

Mourad turned out to be the perfect location for our engagement dinner. The entire restaurant team knew the plan. The ring was presented beautifully with desert. The chef had done several complimentary tastes/dishes throughout the evening, plus a beautiful champagne toast upon presentation of the ring. Each dish was an impeccable melange of exotic flavors curated beautifully on the plate. Service, food, ambiance...the entire evening was perfect in every way. Thank you Mourad team for a night that made history.
Be the first to ReplyVery elegant restaurant in a unique, art deco building.
Great for a date night. We started at the bar, which is a destination itself, by sampling some of the house concoctions. Our drinks were well-balanced, but with just enough punches of flavor to make them interesting. For dinner, we centered (too many) side dishes around the snapper (which was perfectly cooked, as in not dry). Couscous, carrots and more rounded the meal out. Everything was perfectly cooked and the flavor profiles were a unique blend of Moroccan and western. Service was expert level.

You walk in through the door, and you are greeted with a warm and modern ambiance. Music is playing in the background which sets the perfect mood. Instantly, your day that was filled with work meetings, paperwork, and deadlines is forgotten as you are greeted with attentive staff. You find yourself feeling at home, not physically but internally. Seated, you are introduced to the menu, the staff are detailed with their recommendations on both the drink and food menu. They build the anticipation, and you are filled with excitement for the meal you are about to indulge in. Your glass is filled with the perfect paired glass of wine for the food to come. You take a sip, and instantly feel relaxed. Your stomach growls. You begin to think about your work day again, but not for too long, because you plate is sat in front of you. It's the Artichoke dish. A dish filled with a variety of greens and garbanzo beans for protein. It arrives in a beautiful dish, and the lid is removed. You look down and you see an array of greens and browns. You take a bite. You are greeted with what winter going into spring taste like. It taste warm yet fresh. Springy yet comforting. A combination of salty and sweet goes with the combination of the different textures in the dish. You close your eyes and take a spoonful of the broth, and instantly you visualize yourself in front of a fire place, the snow is melting and flowers are blooming. This dish filled with so much flavor, so much soul, so much life, so much hope, and it renews the energy within you. Paired with the refreshing taste of white wine, you take a sip of your wine and smile as you realized winter is coming to an end. 10/10 recommend this restaurant. The vegetarian options are worth every bite. Finally a restaurant that offers dishes that are vegetarian and filling. Finally a restaurant that offers dishes that are full of flavor. Finally a restaurant that offers a variety of taste. Finally a restaurant that you can go to no matter if you're vegetarian or if you eat meat.
Be the first to ReplyMourad has been on my list for awhile.
My feelings are mixed. The food was amazing. I was there with 2 friends and we had the olives, pecans and milk bread to start. Each were perfect in their own right, the milk bread is the thing dreams are made of. For entrees we had the beef cheek, artichoke and halibut. I'd never had beef cheek and was delighted with it. 10/10 would def have again. The artichoke is a great non-meat option; extremely flavorful and the chickpeas push it over the edge, aromatically it will knock you out. The halibut was perfectly cooked, very flavorful. My issue was the service. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. For example they brought out the entrees when one of the people at the table was in the restroom, had to ask multiple times for things, etc. Even with that thought I would highly recommend and go again.Bill was extremely reasonable for a restaurant of that quality even when you consider we each had 3 cocktails.

The wait staff was very nice but I was underwhelmed by my meal here. I ordered the braised beef cheek but I didn't love it in general or the fact that it was paired with okra. I guess I just envisioned something different for my first experience having Moroccan food. The atmosphere here was really nice and I'd probably come back for afterwork drinks but that's it.
Be the first to ReplyReally exceptional food, ambience and service.
I had the 48 hr braised beef cheek , that was exquisite ! An explosion of flavor with tha okra, yucca and coconut paired with that amazing piece of meat that was treated so well! Then, I also went for the dessert which was recommended by the host and the server. It was coconut and mango based.. wow it was such a treat! Very light, refreshing and just perfect to finish off a meal. It is by far the best use of coconut in a dessert that felt so organic, it not only had the infusion of natural flavor but also some cool temperature technique with that coconut for garnish/theatrics. Overall , it was indeed a 5 star dining experience. Thai will be my go to in SF always!

We came here on a Saturday night and it wasn't super crowded. We had really great service with good suggestions for food combinations and drink pairings. Loved the intimate atmosphere for couples (corner couches)!I really enjoyed trying new flavors and spices but most of the food I ordered didn't suit my personal palate. The lamb tartare was my favorite--very tasty and amazing textures--but unfortunately couldn't taste much of the lamb. The beef basteeya had a very cool texture but the nut and beef combo was quite heavy (perhaps meant to be shared by more people). No complaints on the short-rib for that was delicious (though the sauce was a bit too sweet for me). The beans on the side were my least favorite--nut/spice topping with beans and tomato sauce was also too heavy and not very dynamic flavor-wise. It was definitely really expensive and I would have preferred a lighter meal or a cheaper meal. However, I'm still interesting in giving some of the other menu items a try!

I'm not surprised that Mourad is busy even on a Tuesday night. We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday and the restaurant is full like a weekend. The winter menu has a good variety of dishes to choose from and the wine list, extensive. All you wine lovers will have a feast with the offerings they have. They do have a wine consultant that will help you if you need a little direction. We started off with pecans, lamb tartare and salmon. My favorite is the lamb tartare. The flavor is heavenly and not at all as I expected it to be. For our big party and we came hungry... we ordered all 3 La'acha dishes: short ribs, snapper and chicken. The short ribs was extremely flavorful and tender. The snapper, superb as well. It came with sauce and lettuce. The chicken, it's so so... I would pass this up next time. The potato sides is a must try. We had couscous as well but I prefer the potato.Never leave without trying desert and the puffs did not disappoint. 2 hours later, our party was content after a full dinner, couple of bottle of wines, dessert and a birthday cake. Oh by the way, there is cake cutting fee. It's definitely $$$$$$ for dinner but if you are willing to pay for good food, attentive staff, nice ambiance. This place is a must try.
Be the first to Replyvery very expensive (as expected) but very very worth.
6 of us ordered numerous appetizers, mains, and the moroccan family style la'acha short rib, total was ~$1100. standouts were the short rib, basteeya duck, and couscous. service, as expected from a fancy restaurant was very good, and the wine director Jose Delgado explained numerous wine choices for us! sad that they lost their michelin star but still very popular. although out of my budget, would bring my parents here for a treat!

Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I went last year for our anniversary dinner
My husband and I went last year for our anniversary dinner and it was a fantastic experience. So much so that we went back again this year with family so they could also experience the excellence of Mourad. To start, the bar was closed to sit at due to a couple of bartenders having family emergencies. That's what the host told us. Our reservation was at 6:45, so early enough that only a hand full of tables were seated when the four of us were sat down. We were served water and two of the glasses had been spilled while being poured. We asked the busboy to dry the table as it was dripping on our clothing. We ordered cocktails and olives. Got the olives in minutes, but our drinks didn't arrive until 35 minutes later. Nothing was said. Yikes. Miss #1. The wine we ordered with our dinner arrived before the drinks. When finally poured, the wine was spilled at 3 of the 4 of our glasses. Like a little puddle, not a few drips. We had to ask for it to be cleaned up. This happened twice. Weird. Miss #2. Dinner was served and was delicious. We were having a nice time and when our second bottle of wine was being poured, my husband got served and I covered my glass to indicate no more and the pourer took the bottle away. It wasn't empty. It didn't have a lot left, but it should have been poured into someone's glass, not removed from the table. All 4 of us were bewildered. The manager was told and graciously sent a nice desert over to us but that was a huge miss #3. I don't know what was happening that night, but it was not the same Mourad experience we had previously. I really hope this was an anomaly.

Absolutely incredible Moroccan dinner at Mourad! The short rib family-style la'acha was perfect for 6 - so juicy, paired with three amazing sauces. Of the sharing plates we tried, my favorites were the eggplant (prepared three ways, paired with delicious hummus and fluffy bread), basteeya (super unique pastry - filled with duck and topped with apricots, shaved almonds, and creme fraiche), and the hamachi (super fresh and flavorful fish with strawberries) -- but everything was good!! San Francisco truly does every cuisine so well. Dined: July 21, 2022

Have been meaning to try Mourad and finally got to try couple weeks ago for my mom's bday dinner! One of her friends suggested coming here since she has been many years ago and had a great experience! However, I feel like the food and experience fell short and it's a little surprising to me they have one Michelin star. They are located in Fidi and I was surprised how close they were to my office! As everything in SF, it is hard to find parking so expect to pay for the nearby parking garages. Most of the dishes we ordered were just okay even though they were plated nicely. None of the dishes stood out besides the short rib at the end. The short rib was the family style dish and they let you know it takes around 45 min to prepare. We ordered a dessert at the end but they didn't even say happy birthday or put a candle on the dish. The dessert was a chocolate pineapple dessert and it had some spice to it. Definitely interesting but don't know if I would order again. The cocktails overall were quite good, I ordered a non-alcoholic one to try too. All in all, I was glad I was finally able to try this place but since I didn't really like it and it was pricey, I don't think I would come back.

From very drafty space to the rather odd entrance from the very start didn't bode well for a pleasant evening. With the exception of our wait person, the staff was perfectly pleasant. Our wait person decided to pour me a ridiculously small portion of Sauternes which I at first thought was a "taste." I was so distracted by his subtle condescension that for a bit I just went with it.Our food was mediocre at best and I've actually tried to forget the whole experience and haven't had any incentive to comment on the particular's of what we ordered. This Emperor has no clothes.

Great moroccan cuisine - ate here for dinner on a wednesday with a party of 3 and made reservations a few weeks in advance. Very crowded and lively for a weeknight in May. My group split various dishes for the table - oysters, milk bread, hamachi, octopus, basteeya, duck liver, eggplant, branzino, and lamb. Absolutely delicious! Pretty reasonably priced for the servings and downtown SF.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely outstanding.
The attention to details both at a visual and gastronomic level is what you'd expect by a michelin star restaurant. The octopus may have been the best I've ever tried! Highly recommended
