Ridiculously thin pieces of meat! You could read a newspaper through it. Granted they'll bring more, but was underwhelming. Sauces had limited choices.

...the food ..amazing. plentiful, delicious and probably falls into healthier choices category. Our waiter suggested we start with an appetizer sampler. Which is the right choice!! Then onto selecting your own hot pot ingredients and sauces. Yum,!! Was there on a packed Friday night. The wait staff still managed to be extremely attentive. The salad bar remained clean and stocked.

.. last year, my daughter and I came cause it sounded cool but we didn't have enough time to really enjoy all the salad bar and meat options that they had to offer -- we felt the potential but had to run to our flight. Tonight, we can back and we're soooooo glad we did. Service - Jini is the tops. Fast, friendly, proactive. Drinks, food, more broth ... everything we needed was delivered quickly. She even found me a bib cause I didn't want to slurp-splash all over my shirt. Meats - lots of meat options, we just ordered one of each to start and then re-ordered multiples of the ones we liked more. Each time, the meat came nice and quickly. Salad bar - good selection of raw seafood (octopus, clams, mussels, shrimp, etc.), seafood product (e.g., fish cakes, shrimp balls), and LOTS of noodles, veggies and sauces for you to make whatever you wanted. I hadn't tried "creamy wasabi" with hot pot before but now that I've discovered it here, I'm gonna look forward to it everywhere else! Ambiance - clean, modern, quiet. Perfect for chill, relaxed dinner with friends and family. So so good... we may go again before we leave SLC in a few days. TY Mr. Shabu. Our SLC trip is off to a great start thanks to you!

Came here after checking in to hotel and was immediately greeted upon arrival. Our server was friendly and explained the experience since it was our first time. There are a lot of food options for everyone vegetables, seafood and 4 steak options during lunch. The experience and food were tasty and definitely an experience to try. The inside of the restaurant is welcoming and nice music playing at an appropriate level. If every in the Salt Lake City downtown area recommend coming as its a great all you can for the price.

My group and I had an amazing experience during our visit, even though it was cut short because of the restaurant closing time. We arrived after 8pm but had a long wait time because of a viewing event for Sundance at a nearby theater. The location was very busy and we did not get seated until close 9pm. It was many of our groups first time experiencing Hot Pot so we were unsure of what to expect from this concept. Once we were seated and able to select our broth for our pot, it was go time. I really like how each person gets there own pot, compared to other concepts that may have a shared or split cauldron of soup. The food bar was excellent. Very well organized and stocked with a wide variety of vegetables, seafood, noodles, and sauces. When our server returned we just had her bring stacks of trays of sliced meats so we could try them all. We also had them bring app sampler trays and some sushi rolls for the table to share. We had a larger group so we ordered what we knew we could eat so we would not waste any food. We were kind of bummed that our experience was cut short due to the restaurant closing at 10pm. Unfortunately this area was busy on this day so next time we will make a reservation and arrive early to fully experience our meal. I can't wait to go back! Enjoy!!!

IM GOING BACK! Best Shabu Shabu around!
Be the first to ReplyThis review update is very overdue.
I have been to Mr. Shabu a few more times since their soft opening and it is a good option for Hot Pot, specifically if you're in the downtown area, but also if you want the most upscale feel. My biggest complaint about Mr. Shabu and why I would typically pick a different option these days is that their sauce bar is both quite limited in options and is prone to congestion. It makes it even worse that for an average height male you have to lean over to get to the ingredients in the back but for a shorter person and many women you are going to really have to strain to reach the items in the back. Like you're gonna have to put your chest in the soy sauce if you want to get some peanuts from the back type of situation. I mentioned the limited options for the sauce bar and the most glaring for me, at least on my last visit, was that there was very little to spice up your sauce. No crushed chilis, no chopped Thai chilies, no chili oil. That's a pretty huge bummer for me. Just like the sauce bar I'd say they have one of the more limited ingredient bars in town. They do keep a few items like halved crabs and whole shrimp, at least the times I've been there, but overall I think they have the least variety of any of the hot pot places I've been to lately. If you are downtown I think this is the spot, so if you are visiting the area don't let me scare you away unless the idea of a crowded sauce bar and lack of spicy options is as much a deal breaker for you as it is for me. If you go down State St to just past 35th South there are a couple of options that I like better. OMBU Hot Pot and Top Pot are both a better choice, if not quite as upscale in ambiance they are far more upscale in options.

It was good but not amazing and I could not eat enough to justify the price tag. So I probably won't go back unless I am asked to go. They were friendly and the service was fine.

After a long day of world class skiing, we checked out this hip hot pot spot in downtown SLC. This place hit the spot. Good quality cuts of beef and pork, which by the way is unlimited. Quick and friendly service. Plenty of fresh vegetables to balance that fat and salt from the shabu broth and meats. Very busy on a Saturday night! Recommend you make reservations. I live in Los Angeles and this place is just as good as most of the popular shabu hot pots in the area. Enjoy!

PLEASE, PLEASE, bring back the old peanut sauce!! It was my absolute favorite!! The new thick one, with large crunchy chunks of peanuts in it, is NOT the vibe! Gross.

What a lovely restaurant! We came here with our family, no reservations and they were able to sit us fairly quick. Although our party was split (table for 6 people) they sat us next to each other. The concept is great, you order your broth, meats, and drinks with your waiter and they have a buffet of all their veggies, sauces, and extra seafood in the center. With all you can eat includes appetizers. We ordered a sampler and it was awesome. The sampler came on a large wood board (my favorite was the Korean BBQ chicken, so delicious!) we ordered a second plate of just the Korean BBQ chicken. I ordered their classic broth and my husband had their spicy (both equally tasty). I was so happy to find shabu in SLC and this restaurant was wonderful. Ambiance is really enjoyable. Everything was very clean and ran smoothly. The food was delicious (I ordered 4 orders of meat, plenty of food included with one round of veggies at the buffet). My nephews enjoyed as well as my in laws. My husband paid for all of us and tipIs automatically included (18% for a party of 5 or more) total came out to $230 which is very reasonable for what you get. I will definitely be retuning when I'm in town visiting. It's such a delight to know I get to enjoy Shabu in Utah.

Amazing! So so good Price includes appetizers (large selection) and meats. #5 and #7 beef were excellent. Veggies were fresh. Beef short rib Galbee broth tasted like Korean Galbi Tang! So delicious. Mr shabu broth tasted light and clean. Also very good! Great place with great food and even better service. Highly recommend!

Mr Shabu is my current favorite hotpot in Salt Lake! Upon walking in you may encounter a wall of people standing around because the wait area is very small, but once you are sat it's a lot more comfortable. Limited room on the tables so it can get pretty crowded with different food items. The actual meat is awesome though. I always get a few types of ramen noodles and other add ins for the broth at the buffet style table in the middle. The appetizers are a nice addition to the meal as well.

My husband and I went out to lunch today as we got a late start and wanted to check out the rest of the All Star Weekend activity at The Gateway. It was our first time going in, and we had an awesome experience! It was clean and organized, not too busy, and our server was fantastic! We tried a bit of everything (meats, apps, and options from the salad bar) with our broth. I think I may have stuffed myself silly, but everything was delicious! I'm looking forward to dining in again!

Came here on our first day in salt lake city, did not disappoint!!! We have been to many shabu shabu places in the past, this place holds its own! We ate all you can eat during lunch. First off, restaurant is very spacious. We had a nice corner table and the ambience is very trendy. The workers are nice. You can order appetizers as part of all you can eat. Honestly they werent as appetizing as the rest of the meal. The edamame was okay, nothing special. The katsu, salad, gyoza was not very good mainly because the katsu and gyoza was likewarm. You can order meats and they come on plates about 4 thin strips at a time. They all were pretty good, had no favorites. I had the galbi soup which was very flavorful and different than what i had in the past. My wife had the mr shabu soup which was very good! The menu is easy to navigate and tells you what ingredients are in the soup. There is a bar where you grab vegetables and sauces for your shabu shabu. The price is worth it overall! I would definitely recommend this place if you havent had shabu shabu
