A visit inside is a step back in to the golden era of Hollywood.
If you want to go to an epicenter of the Hollywood golden era history, Musso & Frank Grill should most definitely be on your list. To compliment the experience, head to a film screening or play at the Egyptian, Pantages or Chinese Theaters following dinner. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance here as it totally books up even on the weeknights as early as 5P. Don't expect to be able to just grab a table by walking in as even the bar/counter service is packed by 5:30P. The interior will take you back to Hollywood circa 1919 as it has never had an interior refurbishment. The service is outstanding and attentive and the menu is traditional steak house. As I don't eat meat, I ordered the Branzino ($40) which was served on a bed of Arugula and topped with roasted pistachio gremolata. It was just OK, not a big win in my opinion. The Wedge Salad ($18) was traditional but also not the best that I've ever had. The baked potato ($14) was as expected and perfectly roasted. The prices lean on the expensive side. Items really add up here including any sauce at ~$9 each which is pretty absurd at a steak place to be honest. A visit here is definitely a must but the return has to be earned. Valet parking located in the rear off Cherokee - 90 minutes validated free and then it jumps to $$$ immediately after. Keep in mind the surrounding area is pretty disgusting - far far far from the golden era of Hollywood. Expect to be greeted by the strangest homeless people on earth complete with strong stench of urine. Yes, welcome to Hollywood where they apparently could care less about image anymore. How sad.
Be the first to ReplyNostalgic escape from the doldrums of the city
This is a great restaurant. It is old and it feels that way inside - in a good way - nostalgic. The service was excellent. The food was great - the server recommended steaks off the grill so that is what we did, the side of Mac n cheese was superb. They have valet parking odd of Cherokee that is $14 with validation. Even though it is in one of the busiest and most touristy parts of town, it doesn’t feel that way inside. It is a little food escape from the doldrums if the outside world.
Be the first to ReplyIrresponsible Treatment
I had my 71st birthday dinner at Musso this past October. I was particularly excited for this because my birthday is Halloween, and I could not get a reservation on that day for two years prior. Being a native New Yorker steak houses are important to me and Musso had been one of my all-time favorites. Something strange happened on this night. When I pulled into their lot in the rear of the restaurant to valet it was the emptiest, I'd ever seen it. There was a big SUV and one other car at most. I joked with the attendant asking him "Can you squeeze me in". As we walked in, I noticed my car being driven off lot. Didn't make sense to me why with all the available space, but I was at Musso and felt there was no need to worry. The next morning when I noticed the damage on my rear bumper I emailed and then phoned Andrea Scuto the Maitre'd. The response I received was as expected "Don't worry I'll have my parking guy take care of you". Perfect exactly what I expected to hear, and that night the dinner and service did not disappoint either. I never expected to be told it didn't happen and totally blown off. It is the way they did not take responsibility nor do anything at all about the damage they caused to my car that has driven me to write this review. After many emails and calls, ultimately, I was bounced between a few guys at the parking company and basically lied to, made to feel like I was fabricating the story and then blown off. In my opinion when you place something of value in somebodies' possession and they are a reputable establishment you expect much more respectful treatment than this. Be forewarned.

Such an icon in Los Angeles. Go just for the experience! The food is good, not great. The wait staff are friendly and professional. But the atmosphere is old-school Hollywood.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful, Classic Old Restaurant
Musso & Frank is an old Los Angeles, and specifically Hollywood icon, one of the most significant holdouts of an earlier era in a massive city which has lost so much of its earlier heritage. This restaurant, in business since 1919 and the oldest surviving in Hollywood, has changed very little in aesthetic or cuisine over the years. It has a classic old decor and feel, with bar, counter, partly open kitchen area (where you can see their steaks grilled), and numerous booths and tables. There's a lot of dark wood paneling, old frescoes, and more. We have been here several times and always go here at least once whenever we're in Los Angeles, and we have never been disappointed. Waiters wear red jackets and black bow ties, and have done so for years. They provide excellent service. Food and cocktails are overall excellent and very traditional. This is not fancy or avant garde food, but old-fashioned traditional food done well, with dishes remaining unchanged for decades. We particularly love their steaks, their sweetbreads in sauce meuniere, their baked potatoes, potatoes Lyonnaise, and salads. POrtions are large and given everything, the prices are reasonable. Cocktails, such as the traditional Vieux Carre (our go-to drink there) are excellent. To top it off, this place periodically is used for filming in movies such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Bosch, figuring prominently in both. Fans of those will enjoy that as well.

This is an old classic Hollywood restaurant. Everything we ordered was terrific. Two of us had the prime rib and it was huge and cooked perfectly. One had the oyster stew and it was brimming with plump oysters and was so tasty. The service is perfect. Parking is behind the restaurant and is $14 if you get the ticket validated. Otherwise it is $25. You need reservations because they are very busy.
Be the first to ReplyCharming historic dining experience
Have always wanted to try this restaurant but was a bit worried if it would be worth it. We were pleasantly surprised and loved our meal and the historic dining experience! We were seated in a front booth promptly at our 8:30 reservation time. We were greeted warmly but the front desk too. Classic cocktails arrived promptly. Excellent service and we all enjoyed the meal of prime rib, rib eye, cap of rib eye (delicious and had never heard of before, tender and much more flavorful than fillet minion) and enormous baked potatoes and delicious mushrooms. Steak was perfectly prepared. All in all a nice festive dining experience! Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyOld Hollywood charm!
This is a historic restaurant situated in Hollywood, where you can feel the history of this place and its role in the movie industry. Lot of famous Hollywood types have frequented this place over the decades, given its proximity to where they work. The tomato soup was excellent, and so was the prime rib. The pasta was decent, but not amazing. Enjoyed the dessert and service as well. All in all, this was a great experience!

We booked dinner here as a treat for a special family birthday and it did not disappoint. The filet mignon was one of the best we've ever had. The service was 1st class too. Definitely a great experience overall.
Be the first to ReplyWorth a try - not as fancy as expected
We had reservations and were seated promptly. We dressed up (jackets, nice jeans, no ties) which turned out to be a little overdressed. Others had sweats, sleeveless T-shirts, ball caps, etc. So if you're looking for a classy place where customers tidy up for a nice meal, keep your expectations low. Service was fine - maybe a bit rushed. We got our cocktails right away and had barely started them when our salads arrived. Entrees were also on our table quickly so it wasn't a leisurely meal (maybe 1 hour total). We ordered a pork chop (thick and tasty), liver steak (good if you like liver), au gratin potatoes (undercooked, not soft), and creamed spinach (too much cream, not enough spinach). Prices weren't too bad - expensive but not outrageous. Atmosphere was fine. The valet parking staff were frowning and unfriendly - maybe it's a tough job?
Be the first to ReplyOld Hollywood
I took my daughter and granddaughters here to further experience old Hollywood glamour and they got a real kick out of it. The food was really good, the service was exceptional and the bill was outrageous. The restaurant has been a staple of the area for many, MANY years and has been a go to for Hollywood’s elite for ages. It’s been featured in many movies and still looks the same.
Be the first to Reply25th Anniversary Dinner
Had seen on TV and didn’t disappoint. Promised a piece of old Hollywood and delivered. Food was fantastic. Service 2nd to none. Advised on Opentable it was our anniversary and was welcomed with a Card and a ver pleasant welcome
Be the first to ReplyNearly perfect
I’ve invited a couple of customers over for dinner, everything was nearly perfect, my onion soup was delicious, and the sides were also very good, but my oyster stew was a rather thin soup and not quite a stew Also prices are a little exaggerated
Be the first to ReplyNearly perfect ruined by parking mafia
Parking is bs - nickel and dine joint ruined by valet. Experience is 100% or it is 1%. Food, servers, atmosphere is great. Parking is mafia game.
Be the first to ReplyGreat in every respect
What a memorably wonderful place! We arrived early for our dinner reservation and thought we would have a cocktail at the bar. It was packed, but friendly people on each side made room for us. We all talked the entire time we were at the bar. The bartender, a delightful young woman, made good drinks and engaged in friendly conversation. When it was dinner time we were taken to a private booth where we had filets of sanddabs and a filet mignon. A perfect meal in an historic setting.
Be the first to ReplyGreat 100 year old restaurant!
Ambiance, food quality, and service are why this place has lasted so long. The menu selection was extensive and from what I could see passing our table, all looked amazing. I had one of the house specialties that included medallions of beef with bernaise on the side. Shared potatoes au gratin that was delicious. Nice dessert list too.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Old School Hollywood Restaurant
You want to know how old school this place is? Charlie Chaplin ate here regularly. That should tell you something. I love this place. You can definitely feel the history. I love those old classic dishes that most places don't seem to serve any more like lobster thermidor. Don't forget to get the martini too. Properly made, but don't get the house gin (which is Gilbey's), get something better. A must visit if you are in Hollywood.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated maybe the location
Entrees and sides extremely small for the price. Living on hype only Not a place to visit for a true LA experience. Don't visit this overpriced, mediocre overrated dump
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food and Friendly Staff
My girlfriend and I ate here for her 25th birthday and I made a request for Musso and Franks to do something special for her just around an hour before we got there. They acted quickly and gave her a birthday card and a birthday cake! The food was very good and the restaurant is beautiful! The only reason I didn't give a 5-star review is because our first waiter ended up leaving or something and it took a little while to get a second waiter to help us. Overall the experience was great and I highly recommend them!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing meal
The martinis are dry, ( comes w/ a sidecar - little extra glass ) the steaks are perfectly charred. ( The secret is the charcoal grill and they are smoke seared ) and the history is legendary

Go for the atmosphere and make a reservation. We ended up with a late dinner reservation and used their parking which I think was $12 for 2 hrs? We had some drinks down the street on Hollywood Blvd beforehand. Parking is elsewhere was at least $25. Great cocktails-I had the vodka lemonade and my husband had wine. Great house bread and my entree was the rigatoni vodka that was really good with the added chicken. My husband had the salmon and we got the truffle mac and cheese as well. HIGHLY recommend that. They had a birthday card for my husband at our seat and let us take a menu home. They even brought out a mini brownie/ice cream dessert with a candle on it. Great service! Wish I could remember the waiter's name.

Fantastic! Dinner was terrific, ambience was great. Our waiter Theo was amazing and we appreciate the complimentary desert as we were celebrating our honeymoon! A definite recommend!
Be the first to ReplyTruly Iconic Restaurant and Bar. Sit at the Bar - A Blast!
We wanted to try this place but couldn’t get a reservation-so sat at bar. They have a limited bar menu that allows you to have the experience with out a huge price. Loved it!
Be the first to ReplyOld Hollywood Nostalgia with great food and service
Being fans of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, when we visited Los Angeles we wanted to explore more of the classic Hollywood experience of old. Musso and Frank is the established place to go for that old-time Hollywood charm - we booked in advance - being from the UK we chose to dine a little later in the evening but upon arrival at 8pm the dinner service was in full flow and it felt we were one of the last sittings - the main restaurant was packed full and we were seated in a nice but side overflow type of area which was a bit empty of guests, quite cold and we did not feel part of the buzz of the main restaurant which you could clearly hear in this side room and had the feeling of missing out, which was a shame as this was our main reason or choosing the place. Our server was fantastic and gave us the classic American style service we enjoy - he was full of anecdotes from the restaurant and generally chatty about where were from and our trip so far. We did not have a starter - the provided bread was sufficiently filling - we both went for the Fillet Mingon which arrived in a good time to enjoy the evening without being rushed and was cooked perfectly to our liking. The side portions e.g. French Fries are definitely for sharing as they are huge! Similarly with dessert - we ordered one Chocolate Mousse Cake (more like a chocolate fudge cake in the UK) and this was again very large and definitely good to attack with two spoons - so we were pleased that we had chosen to share this. After the meal our server had reserved a space at the bar for us to which we enjoyed some amazing cocktails and spoke with locals & staff and for us made our evening as this was the famous bar featured in the film - service here again was excellent and it was a shame that the bar was closing at 10pm as we would have stayed longer for sure! This was not a 'cheap' evening by any means - but for the food, service, and ambience in the main room, this was well worth it in our opinion. Our dining highlight in LA. If you are looking to experience old American charm, you can't go wrong with booking this place - our 4* is just due to us being seated in the side area, probably our fault for booking too late in the evening (though we did book 2 months in advance)
Be the first to ReplyGo for the atmosphere and history
I've wanted to go here for a while and am happy I finally made it. Let's be frank - it is a bit of a tourist trap. No one in the industry would be caught dead there these days. The food is just OK, the service good. But it was wonderful to get off the hellscape that is Hollywood Blvd. for a bit and step back into another age.
