Top notch pasta.
We ordered Ragu, and Ziti, both were excellent and the best pasta we've had in Chicago. Great ambiance and cocktails as well.

THE DRINKS ARE AMAZING! Service at the bar is great, but the restaurant is ok. Breakfast/lunch lacks a bit (tried both breakfast & lunch here, leaves a bit to be desired) but dinner at the bar was exquisite. We ordered the scallops & they were perfectly cooked & the aรฏoli served with it as it's sauce was *chef's kiss*. Came back 3x for the drinks alone. Nice place to sit and have great consistent drinks, the mixologists were friendly.

Service was impeccable! Food was tasty and portioned perfectly. We sat right by the front door so we weren't really able to experience the full ambiance, but it seemed very cool from where we could see. Overall enjoyed our evening and food.

Went here for my birthday dinner this past weekend for the first time. The service was outstanding! Sergio (the manager I believe) showed me and my friend the utmost hospitality. I have never had such a great experience at a restaurant. The food was incredible, as well as the ambiance. When dessert came around, our server, as well as the head chef, Sergio and a few other staff members all came over to sing happy birthday to me. It was such a special experience I will never forget. HIGHLY recommend.
Be the first to ReplyNico's food was overall pretty good.
Their Brussel sprouts were the best item. We were really disappointed with the fennel apple salad. But the special truffle pasta felt super fresh and the seafood entree was great, so that made for an overall good experience. Great place to take a date!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was disappointing for the amount of buzz it gets.
The service was just meh and the food was not rememberable.

My favorite part about this restaurant was how they cooked the pasta. It was the most perfect al dente pasta I have ever come across. Our group of 3 ordered crudo, burrata, spaghetti, mushroom ragu, and rigatoni. My favorite dish had to be the spaghetti because it was different from all other spaghettis I've tasted. It was hard to choose between the pastas, however, because each one was unique and had its own vibe to it. I also ordered a mocktail from the bar and it surprisingly very delicious. I wish I knew exactly how they made it so that I can recreate it for myself. Guess I just gotta go back to this place soon (:
Be the first to ReplyPerfect place for brunch.
Duck Hash special sounded interesting, but we had Nico's scramble, and basic steak and eggs. Potatoes could have been a bit more tasty, but they were probably More healthy as Was, so no complaints. Destiny our server was pleasant and efficient.

Killed it on my burger, but unfortunately Nico Osteria did not quite meet expectations on the service front. Came here for brunch on Sunday and had to hunt around for the host stand. Once found, we were promptly seated and greeted by our server. 2/3 meals came promptly, however the 3rd meal brought out was the wrong order and by the time it eventually arrived, we had already eaten. Would have been fine if they comped us for that meal, but alas, they didn't. That being said, my burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the fries were crispy and also deliciously seasoned. It was also FREEZING inside....maybe they need to up the heat given it is surrounded by floor to ceiling glass.
Be the first to ReplyFood here is major league good.
Everything from the apps to entrees to desserts is great. But my god the service - it's terrible.Have been in here multiple times and the service has been brutal each time. Now I know why when there's two hour waits at Gibson's and LUXBAR in the summer, this place still remains half empty.
Be the first to ReplySame here sat night and decided to sit outside.
Friendly staff, nice vibe, and great drinks! There were a couple dishes we didn't like too much but the scallops and pasta entrees were great!

Had breakfast twice here as it's part of the Thompson Chicago's Loyalist program. Over 2 meals, we ordered several things: short rib breakfast sandwich, blueberry muffins, chocolate croissant, halibut & ocean trout benedict, and Nico scramble. Their baked goods are great; both the muffin and croissant tasted as if they are made in house. The short rib sandwich was on a homemade English muffin and very flavorful. The benedict was very good too and the fish cakes were nicely prepared. Wasn't too thrilled with the scramble, its was pretty meh. The only thing saving it were the pancetta pieces, but not enough of them. Their breakfast potatoes were hit and miss. The first day with my short rib sandwich, they were extra crunchy which I loved. The next day they were barely crispy, so the ketchup helped. Service was good and food came out pretty quickly; would definitely try it again.
Be the first to ReplyNico at the Thompson is a neighborhood favorite that I like
Nico at the Thompson is a neighborhood favorite that I like to frequent. The interior is trendy and moody in the evening. I've sat at both bar and regular table many times and I like both experiences. The food is delicious and I feel the serving sizes are adequate. I've come to get a hankering for the rigatoni, it's a popular dish with a delicious flavor I can't quite put my finger on. The only expectation I'd say was not met here for me was the wine but not having to due with the quality, it's the service. There is opportunity for the servers to gain more education on the wine menu. When asking for a wine recommendation to pair with my food order, the server wasn't helpful at all. After asking for the sommelier, I was absolutely shocked to learned that our server was the sommelier! Talk about an awkward please don't spit in my food moment...Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated event but it's not like it's stopping me from continually dining here though, again it's still a neighborhood favorite and priced well for the Gold Coast. Just know if you're dining here, the staff and sommelier can't tell you much about the wine at all, just that, "it's good".

Came to Nico Osteria at a weird time (around 2:15) and I do not recommend coming outside of typical brunch or dinner hours. Every staff member was doing side work such as rolling silver ware or working in the kitchen. My party and I had to ask the host for a server after sitting there for about 20 minutes without anyone approaching us. All of the brunch pastries were sold out and they did not have the chicken Parmesan sandwich. The food we did get (burrata, avocado toast, and burger) were very good; however the overall experience was subpar.

Was my favorite 5 years ago but now I think this place is the WORST. The manager Alex has no service spirit and is a LIAR. We went there and was told to wait for at least 45 minutes. We cannot sit inside, cannot sit outside, cannot sit anywhere. But the place was NOT occupied at all. At least 60% of the space is EMPTY (as you can see in the photo) No proper table was offered. And we were then taken to a super crowded bar where everyone was drinking. The manager said "this is the best service they can offer." What a liar! What makes us super angry is that when we were waiting for Uber outside, we saw a couple walking in directly and they were offered a place without any waiting time. I have no idea where this discrimination comes from, but please do not come to this restaurant with a liar manager!

We haven't been back to Nico since my last yelp review and I wanted to update to say that they are still producing excellent food. I also want to see why people aren't going there in droves?? We were there on a Friday night and the inside was empty and a few tables outside were taken. It's actually something I can't fathom. We started with our favorite wine - a bottle of Meomi Pinot Noir and the the Brussels Sprout Bruschetta - still a stand out favorite of us and the restaurant.I'm not sure if they moved away from tapas - which I'm glad about - but we didn't feel the need to order the 5 dishes to share. My husband got the burger and I got the Rigatoni. Without a doubt - the pasta was homemade and outstanding. The burger and fries were also great. Our service was excellent and sitting outside on such a beautiful corner made for a lovely Friday night to people watch. I hope more people find Nico and get to experience the great food and wine.

10 tables open outside six tables open inside and they said there was a 45 minute wait. When I inquired why they said they were short staffed. Last week when I went in I ordered the steak and eggs and they said they were out of steak. On a red hot corner in Chicago with three stellar restaurants within walking di stance this place disappoints constantly. You think a hotel chain like the Thompson would do better. Do yourself a favor and go to Gibsons , Hugo's , Tavern on Rush or Carmines for a better experience.

Used to be a high-end Italian restaurant with an interesting menu. I don't know what happened in the past couple of years but the food is mediocre, at best. Everything we had was relatively tasteless, Served cold when it should be warm or otherwise disappointing. Very nice atmosphere inside and outside with helpful and responsive service... No complaints except the food. When they saw that we didn't eat one of the entrรฉes they did take it off the bill, which was nice.We hope that this was just a one-off bad experience. Probably worth another try.

Decided on an impromptu dinner here - happened to be walking around and someone had suggested checking out Nico's recently, so we stepped in.Service & Ambiance: 10/10 - our server guided us on what drinks and entrees to get based on what we typically like, AND they even waited to cook our entree while I stepped away for a work call so I wouldn't come back to cold food!Food: 10/10 - the oysters were so good, as were the cocktails (I opted for the bartender's mistake which was tequila based), and the braised boar was just mind blowing. I've had better beet salad, but this was still good. Both desserts were good and super generous in portion!I'm so happy to have discovered Nico's! We were not planning on as nice of a dinner as we had, but I regret nothing. Definitely check this place out!

Had I gone for dinner, I'm sure the food would have been better; however, I made the fatal mistake of going for lunch. The Caesar salad dressing; not sure how a dressing traditionally made with garlic had no flavor. The best thing about the parmesan chicken sandwich was the ciabatta bun because the chicken had no flavor. The French toast with peach preserve was missing the peaches.
Be the first to ReplyDinner:Beautiful Experience Burger was served as a double
Dinner:Beautiful Experience Burger was served as a double thin patty with extremely salty, but delicious, fries. The scallops were ok but not seared to my liking. Rigatoni Bolognese pasta texture was superb. The balance of meat (lamb Bologna) to pasta was excellent. Paired with a GL Morellino Chardonnay made for a sexy meal experience. Server: Bidkar was the best. He literally narrated the entire menu to me and gave me his very own summary review of just about everything I asked for. My Old Fashioned was perfect. My date's Italicized (tequila inspired) was a winner to him. Dining room: very dark and mildly lit just like I like it. Super sexy. Sheer perfection. Bathroom: very nice and clean and you get your steps in to get to and from as it's down a nice flight of stairs. Breakfast: Dining Room: we chose to sit at the chef's bar. Very different ambiance. Bright and shiny. Very well lit. Lord of natural light.Steak: was less than medium. I ordered medium well. Server: Omar didn't seem to be interested in serving us. He eventually showed up to take our drink order, at which point, we encouraged him to take our complete order. He did inform us that the prep would take awhile because we ordered medium well steaks. He served my coffee and my date's orange juice. He'd provided me with a cream cup although I didn't request cream. ย He never returned for me to request other condiments for my coffee.Breakfast Again: House salad was ok. It intrigued me as I watched one being prepped very meticulously and the finishing with what appeared to be goat cheese crumbles on top sold me. However, my salad wasn't quite as meticulously prepped. In fact, I had to search for the goat cheese which was apparently a scoop of it slapped into the bottom of the bowl before adding any of the other ingredients. It was edible but I won't order it again. My date's bagel was delicious. It was flaky from the inside out and tasted like it was already perfectly buttered when cut into.

The restaurant requires a $10 deposit per person for reservations through Tock. I paid the deposit, when paying for dinner I did not get credit for the deposit. The manager said I would receive a refund from Tock. A week went by and I still have not received a refund. I contacted Tock and they said the manager was wrong. The contacted Nico Osteria instructing them to give me a refund. I still have not received a refund so I contacted the restaurant they said they have no idea what I'm talking about.P.s. the food was terrible
