Service was not great and food was cold.
We had to sit in the patio, were told not enough staff for the dining area. I don't plan to return to this restaurant.

This place was NOT busy on Wednesday night and yet they gave our party a BIG hassle for a table. Thanks to the host and the manager for not being accommodating on a DEAD Wednesday night because we happily took our business elsewhere.$1,$$$.00.

Some of the best Tex-Mex I've had in the Bay Area (and I've lived in SoCal and TX for most of my life!). We had 2 great cocktails (the pear margarita and the Tres Rojas) that were super tasty and well-made. The chips and salsa and guac were very tasty and a decent sized portion. The pozole soup, the quesadilla, and the chile verde colorado enchilada were all very flavorful with super fresh and tasty ingredients. The portions were all quite big, too! THe staff were friendly and accomodating; we showed up during the dinner rush with no reservation on a Friday night and they allowed us to grab an unused table for an hour (which was plenty of time to eat and chill). They were constantly cleaning the tables between guests and the outdoor area was covered and had many heat lamps. The prices were a bit high overall, but we did get a pretty large amount of quite tasty food.

In the middle of an 880 freeway on-ramp, a Shell gas station, and a restaurant supply store (shout out to Smart Foodservice), is a magical place called Nido! Do yourself a favor and come here for happy hour!!!First off, we are all #blessed that this place reopened. They were closed for a long while because of COVID. Unfortunately, new lockdowns JUST came up and they have to close again this Sunday 12/6/20 - as I was told by a waitress. I'm on their mailing list so I received an email earlier in the week that their patio was open for business and that they could take reservations now for the first time! It was so easy and convenient. On their website, you can make reservations on Resy. Their patio is so cute: there are string lights, heat lamps, and a roof structure. Happy hour is 4-6pm, and apparently available Thursday-Sunday when they're open. This is actually already subject to change because of lockdown measures just implemented just as I'm posting this review. Sad! To stay up-to-date, I recommend signing up for their mailing list so you know when they're open again. When we got seated, we got a little one page laminated sheet with COVID rules and the QR code for our table to place an order and pay through our phones. The process was seamless and ended up being very convenient because we could just bounce when we were done instead of waiting for our check! They encouraged wearing masks as much as you can. The server was so nice, this woman I didn't get her name. The food was bomb. We loved everything we got: the cup of pozole ($5 during HH!), beef brisket tacos (2 for $8 during HH), and mole quesadilla! We also really enjoyed the mezcal margaritas. They also had beers, sangria, and rosรฉ available on the HH menu. Overall we were very satisfied! Such a cute ambiance and vibe, delicious quality food and drinks, and great happy hour deals. Support this neighborhood gem! I also love Nido Backyard - a couple blocks away.
Be the first to ReplyReally expensive for mediocre food/cocktails/service.
Would maybe give it one more try? Cute seating area though

NIDO COVID ANNEX REPORT: DISORGANIZED AND CHAOTICThis is specifically about the Nido annex, or whatever they're calling it, down the street toward the water. Two of us went there on a weekend at around 5:00 for drinks and snacks. Maitre 'd said we could sit in one area for drinks and snacks and sign up on a waiting list for dinner. Place was nearly empty, but whatever, we just wanted drinks and tacos. The place is a compound of several shipping containers set up for kitchen, bar, etc. Went to the bar as directed to order drinks and snacks. Very pleasant bartender said he could give me drinks and food to go, but we couldn't eat the to-go food in the bar table area. WTF? No doubt some city regulation. So give us bar food to eat fer cryin' put loud. At this point we split. I'm hoping the actual place up the street is better organized 'cause I still want to try Nido, but I'd recommend avoiding the outdoor "COVID outpost."

**open for takeout and delivery during shelter in place**This place has become one of our favorites during shelter in place, and is somewhere we will definitely be ordering from again. And we can't wait to be able to dine there once restaurants open up again.Food:We ordered the following:- Quesadilla vegetariana | this dish had a nice balance of the vegetables and contained good Oaxaca cheese. The cheese made a huge difference as many places use shredded cheese instead.- Kale salad | the beets and the pepitas provided a nice contrast in textures of the salad. - Mole poblano quesadilla | the mole sauce was the cherry on top to this dish and sealed the deal- Backyard burrito | we ordered one with carnitas and one with carne asada. This burrito had the perfect amount of carne asada, avocado, crema Fresca, beans, and rice. We felt they really nailed it with the basics of a burrito. There was no covering things up with a bunch of sauce or cheese like some other restaurants do.- Chips and salsa | I personally love salty tortilla chips, so I really loved these chips a lot. Their salads are also amazing (our order came with two different kinds), but with a nice little spice kick to them.- Horchata | this was the perfect end to the meal. I've had horchata before that was watered down, or overdone with cinnamon. I had zero complaints with this horchata and will definitely get the bigger size next time.- Blanco y negro | this drink is a horchata with ice coffee floating on top. ย Be prepared for a caffeine kick, but with a nice comforting taste from the horchata.
Be the first to ReplyI love the vibe and the food.
Been here a couple of times, and I really like all.Honorable mentions are the horchata and huarache. The paloma is awesome, I don't even like that drink in Mexico but somehow they really pull it off here.My only complaint would be that they have a dish called "ollita de pobre" (pot of the poor). I find the wannabe cool in poor taste. I a pet peeve, so It won't stop me from giving a full recommendation

Nido's is a really cute spot! The food is freshly made and it is reflected in the wait time of your dish arriving to your table. I ordered a variety of small bites to share with the table and it was very fulfilling. Would recommend this idea since it is the best way to explore the menu.
Be the first to ReplyNot great service and our usual experience.
Sat around and waited for drinks during their happy hour while 80% of their staff decided to huddle for a 30 minute meeting. Right at 5pm during their happy hour on a Friday. They left one bartender to cover the whole service for restaurant/bar. It was really bizarre. There is a reason why restaurants hold these meetings prior to opening. Sucks because we normally like this spot but won't be coming back any time soon.

I had heard good things about Nido even before I saw it showcased on a recent episode of "Check, Please! Bay Area". Jamie W. and I happened to be sauntering around Jack London Square on a brisk Saturday morning, and I noticed it out of the corner of my eye. I have sharp corners because I'm Asian after all. Anyway, we decided we could have an early lunch although it was already pretty busy with young families taking over most of the real estate and baby strollers blocking our path to the table they assigned us.The brunch menu was small but appeared appetizing as they change it seasonably based on the availability of local fresh ingredients. We took advantage and ordered the $9 Chips and Guac, which tasted freshly fried and crispy - although the housemade salsa was more dominant than the guacamole (photo: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F2TbH18p&s=312443edd98622d41c8fb1add929102069a72b8100500c3d184e7c16957f04ca" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">bit.ly/2TbH18p</a>). Jamie tried the $15 Chilaquiles Verde con Pollo, a nacho-like creation with tortilla chips tossed in a tomatillo-jalapeรฑo salsa, soft poached egg, pulled chicken, avocado, crema fresca, queso fresco, red onion, and cilantro (photo: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F3akw0aP&s=9e23b1cd9f3d8f4163794539fc601442521c82bc7d745074d8eb558ebe9d33ea" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">bit.ly/3akw0aP</a>).The combination was surprisingly fresh and flavorful. I went for the $13 bowl of Caldo de Limon, a chicken soup with chile poblano, chile jimmy nardello, lemon, avocado, tomato, cilantro, and corn chips (photo: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F3cdt1m6&s=a1b2e0c0771c6412cae2321fb52a15d99ead7d91a325059363336535b302e91f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">bit.ly/3cdt1m6</a>). The broth could have been a tad richer, and the portion more generous, but again the flavor profile was strong. From our agreed-upon perspective, the one downside was the service which came across as somewhat passive and with a bit of that unmistakable hipster 'tude.FOOD - 4 stars...fresh ingredients make an impression hereAMBIANCE - 3 stars...a bit crowded and loud in hereSERVICE - 2.5 stars...yeah, not a hallmark hereTOTAL - 4 stars...wish the whole experience was more of a match with the foodRELATED - In the mood for Mexican?
