I came here to celebrate my anniversary and it was one of the best experiences! We sat at the chef's counter and was able to watch as they made all the food. We were given a little card, a mocktail, and a little appetizer - their take on avocado toast, as a welcome gift for our anniversary which was so cute. We ordered: Beef tartare - 9/10 - the beef tartare had a very nice taste to it, I felt like the niitaka pear really complimented the flavor of the beef. The crispy beef tendon was the perfect pairing for the tartare, it was just very oily. Crispy pig ears - 10/10 - this was my favorite starter!! It was such an interesting take on pig ears, compared to how I've eaten it before. It has a sweet flavor and the crispiness makes it so like you're eating a chip. American wagyu tomahawk - 10/10 - meat was cooked exactly how we asked (medium rare) and it was super tender, the fattiness of it made it super filling. This is A LOT of meat, we did not finish, and took home the leftovers. It was so delicious though. Buckwheat parker house roll - 9/10 - super soft rolls that serves as a great carb to go alongside your choice of meat. We were given a complimentary passionfruit mini cream puff as part of our anniversary celebrations! Overall, the vibe, the food, and the service was amazing! Definitely a spot you must try if you're spending a little more on a fancy night out.

Best steakhouse and service I had in my life ! Tastes from all around the world cooked to perfection. We took his famous wagyu A3,4&5 and additional rib eye and new york cut. The design is super cool and the vive is unreal. Thank you chef Niku for an unforgettable experience. It was so good I took meat from their butchery next door home to cook the following day :) I would definitely recommend anyone to stop and taste from Nikus experience.
Be the first to ReplyI honestly have no issues here.
A great atmosphere and staff made it comfortable from the start. The drinks were fantastic and the food, specifically the Wagyu Tasting, blew me away. I didn't want it to end but through and through I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would anticipate a higher price tag when coming here but I'd say it's worth it if you love beef/steak like I do.
Be the first to ReplyI would give Niku 11 stars if I could.
I've been to Niku twice and had high expectations since it's a Michelin star steakhouse and they did not disappoint. I love sitting at the chefs counter to watch the chefs work their magic. Each dish is carefully curated and the flavors are always unique but tasteful. The A5 tasting was unbelievably delicious and melted in our mouths. The potatoes are fried in wagyu fat and are increddddible. If you order a steak, they let you pick out your own knife from a variety which is a fun touch. If you have a special occasion or just feel like treating yourself I would highly recommend Niku!
Be the first to Replyservice was stellar.
really good drinks. also really generous wine pours :) tried the ribeye - it was pretty good, nice medium rare. the seasoning was kind of bland though. the crispy potatoes are amazing. I love it! I'll probably try the Wagyu next.

Tbh, i wasn't as impressed w/ this place as I thought I'd be. When I arrived, despite having a reservation, I was told my table wasn't ready but I could wait at the bar. That's fine, but at the bar, nobody approached me to take a drink order or even to offer me a drink menu. I just sat there waiting. Eventually, my table was finally ready and I got to sit down and order a drink. Total time from me arriving until my drink arrived was 27 minutes. Now, this is not the type of thing I usually give a shit about... if i was eating at any normal restaurant, it would be no big deal, but at a Michelin starred place where my dinner for one person ended up costing $700, I expect better. But really, the bigger issue was the steaks. They were good. But... not amazing, I gotta say. I felt like my mind should be blown. Some of the bites were downright stringy. And the steaks seemed under-seasoned as well. the A3 cut was especially not worth it, and didn't really seem all that different then your average run of the mill steak. The A5 was better, but I feel like I was more impressed by the A5 Wagyu I've bought online and pan fried myself. Everything else was delicious. Bone Marrow appetizer was great. The sauce that came with the crispy potatoes was so damn good. Cocktails were good as well. Still though... the main reason for coming here was the steak, and if the steak isn't incredible, no amount of sides is going to fix that.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here to celebrate my birthday.
We made reservations ahead of time. Parking is street parking. When we arrived at our table, there was a little birthday note for me. This was very thoughtful of them. We order a variety of things to share. We wanted to try everything, or mostly everything on the menu. Of course we couldn't try everything, that would be too much food for us. We started with the Matsutake soup, that was very delightful. The soup had great flavor. The bone marrow was excellent. Rich in flavor. Next came the prime ribeye and A5 Miyazaki. The server came over with a tray of steal knives for us to choose from to use. That was different and unique. My husband chooses a cleaver looking steak knife. It was pretty big, LOL. Both of the proteins were cooked perfectly to medium rare. The crispy potatoes side was excellent. I wanted more but was too full. We finished with the ginger lemon custard and a free little birthday cupcake. Those were yummy. The service was excellent. They really took care of us. We had a good time.
Be the first to ReplyFood was very good.
Super buttery A5 wagyu with a great presentation by the staff to help us decide which to order. Apps and Sides were good portion. The beef tartar was definitely the favorite thing next to the Wagyu. Very professional staff and a great experience along with the food.

This place was my favorite new fancy restaurant in SF! It's located in the design district right across from the old Zinga building. The vibe was pretty fancy and dark, very intimate small spot. I ordered the bone marrow, the pickled vegetables, the oysters and the 6 oz filet. The steak was honestly the best steak I've ever had! It was nice and crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful inside! It's a Michelin star restaurant which I didn't know when we booked. I wish I had dressed up a little bit more. I felt a little underdressed with my skirt and sweater. The vibe was very hip and younger, playing Dr. Dre and Tupac! It was definitely a modern fancy restaurant and I want to go back! The service was amazing, servers were super friendly. I even got a purse hook for my bag which was a first! And a coat check key for our takeout bag so it doesn't crowd the table. The server knew we had to leave to go to work and brought our dessert out super fast! We got the Brownie ice cream dessert and just the caramel ice cream alone was to die for!

Came here to celebrate a birthday dinner last october and the food was delicious! Ordered the kusshi oysters, buckwheat parker house rolls, crispy potatoes, prime ribeye, a5 tasting menu, wagyu tsukune, and a couple of other food items i put in the pictures. We ordered way too much food for just 2 people and had a hard time finishing the meats. We clearly could've gone lighter on the sides/apps. Highly recommend ordering another meat in addition to the a5 though since it's super fatty. The service was great -- extremely attentive and kind! But at time it felt like i was receiving a college lecture about different knives and meat cuts and wine. Could be great if you're into that but for us it was a little too dragged out when it could've easily been more condensed. The ambience was really nice and the restaurant was overall really great. Food was delicious (not mind-blowing though but still good) and the two bottles of wine we got were overpriced but paired well with all our food. Overall a good experience but again, the meat was not top tier in terms of taste, just good / decent.

My wife and I had a ton of inKind credit, so we decided to splurge on Niku. This experience is by far the best service I've experienced in years. We got there when the restaurant opened, and were among the first couple of parties to be seated. All the servers were super attentive. They explained the entire menu and even offered assistance in choosing a steak knife for our meal. Our plates and cutlery were changed with every dish. Our water was refilled regularly. I swear that we were served by 4-5 different waiters. The food is amazing too. We loved every appetizer that we ordered. The oysters were extremely flavorful with some type of smoky sauce. The tartare was creamy, and had the perfect amount of acidity served with light crunchy/puffy chips. The bone marrow was topped with pieces of meat, and was perfect to eat with bread. The wagyu meatballs on the skewer was served with a tare sauce with an egg yolk. It coated the meat perfectly and provided a rich mouthfeel. After eating the potatoes, I'm a little obsessed and want to learn how to make it at home. These are the best potatoes I've had with steak. It's like many layers of thin sliced potatoes that are pressed together and deep fried. The texture is amazing. A bit expense to frequent often, but definitely a great meal to celebrate a nice occasion. I can see myself coming back for an anniversary or birthday.
Be the first to ReplyI have mixed feeling about this restaurant.
Food quality is really good but there are not many other options to pair with steak. A5 was too small and overpriced. Service was amazing too, especially managers were really nice. Ambiance is cool with an open kitchen. It was first time for me to try mitake mushroom, but I didn't like it even though I love mushrooms. But it was ok experience. But not worth the price.
Be the first to ReplyHands down my absolute favorite restaurant in SF.
I've gone here for almost every random celebration I can think of . The food is amazing. It rotates from time to time, so theres always something new to try out on the menu. My all time favorites have to be the wagyu tartare and their different cuts of a5 wagyu. The marbling and the "melt in your mouth" texture are to die for. I often get a seat at the counter to watch each of the chefs do their thing. Each of them have a dedicated dish that they focus on. I love seeing them hone in on their craft and work to perfect every dish. Seeing their hard work and dedication makes me so much more appreciative of the food that gets served. Every bite becomes that much more special!Other options for seating include bar seating, high tables by the bar, regular main room dining tables, and private room.Service; everyone is so attentive. No matter how big your group is or how crowded the resto is, I always felt like the service never dwindled. Parking; theres quite a few options for parking around the area. Definitely allot time to find a spot, may expect a short walk to the location.
Be the first to ReplyWe love this place.
A5 tasting never lets you down. Definitely worth the splurge. We didn't have room for dessert first time but finally got to try it this time- I recommend their brownie- chocolatey perfection. I am taking one star away because they forgot our meatballs and only brought them out after we asked about them after our steaks have arrived. Needless to say we didn't enjoy an appetizer after a main course. They didn't comp it.

The team at Niku is obviously reaching for more Michelin Stars. Service was phenomenal. I love cooking, so I asked if I could sit with my beer for a bit at the counter and just watch the chefs cook. They not only accommodated my request, but Chefs Celton and Chase took time to explain to me what they were doing and why. The food was delicious. We started with the oysters. They were light and sweet. Next we had the best steak tartare ever. No disrespect to the chefs, but it's pretty difficult to screw up the meat provided by Butcher Guy Grimms next door. Highly recommend the wagyu flight. The type of wagyu varies based on what Guy can source, but he's been bringing wagyu to the Bay Area for over 30 years and has deep connections in Japan. Our favorite cut was the Takamori Drunken Wagyu. It was super buttery but still tasted and felt like I was eating a piece of steak. The Hasegawa family wagyu was a close second. This one had the texture and taste of fatty tuna.As for sides, you really can't go wrong. We went with the maitake mushrooms which was a nice pairing to the wagyu.Overall, I would definitely go back. Mainly because of the ambiance. I love how it feels like a high-end sushi restaurant but instead of a fish tank behind the counter, there's a massive Basque grill framed on two sides by small Hibachis. The live fire in the middle of the room coupled with the 90's Bay Area hip-hop (I got 5 on it...) playing at just the right volume was comforting to me... Non natives probably didn't even notice the Luniz in the background but I loved it. Sprinkle me some of that g.a.m.e. team Niku! I'll definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal service, and top quality meat.
The ribeye was cooked beautifully and the wagyu was out of this world! We sat at the chef's counter and had a great conversation with Chase. Chase is the man!

For a long time, San Francisco didn't have a very good steakhouse. It has the big name brand chains like Mastro's, Morton's, and even Harris to name a few. They're good, but not great, and often times inconsistent due to the volume of steaks that they serve. I was really impress with Niku. There are three chefs, one focuses on appetizer and side dish prep, another on cooking the Wagyu, and another on the big steaks. I have to say that the steak tartare was one of the best I've ever had. The steak bits were large enough to provide a rich flavor and texture, and they were really high quality cuts consisting of tenderloin and A5 wagyu. With the egg yolk mixed in and the tendon "chicharron", it's a memorable dish making you crave more. We also ordered the prime ribeye which was perfectly cooked and went great with the fried potatoes. The short rib we got was deliciously moist and tender, and it's richness was well complimented with the Japanese style rice we ordered as a side which had aged vinegar in it. Did I mention the Parker rolls? Crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, brushed with Wagyu fat on top, it was incredible and perfectly baked.I'd highly recommend this steakhouse to any beef lovers. The attention that the chefs put into serving the perfect steak is unlike most other steakhouses in SF. It's pricey, but we'll worth it.

The food and service was exceptional! From the moment we walked in, the hostesses were super friendly and they seated us right away. Our entire dinner lasted for about 3 hours. We ordered the pig ears and chicory salad to start. My partner ordered the A5 tasting and I orderered the ribeye. For our sides, we got the crispy potatoes (my least favorite) and the grilled maitaki mushrooms. For drinks, I got the No.9 and my partner got a Basil Hayden old fashioned. Definitely recommend this place. We had a great time interacting with the chef's and our server was very nice and attentive. Not once did we feel rushed by any of the staff.

Love the food and ambience! Service is also attentive and prompt! They sat out party of 3 at a larger table so we could order lots of appetizers to share and enjoy a comfortable experience. The meat were all cooked perfectly! The pig ears was actually and surprisingly REALLY delicious! Parker rolls were okay, but the tomohawk was the winner of the night! Super juicy, flavorful, and the right portion size in relative to the price! What a sexy piece of meat!
