Nyum Bai is in the Fruitvale Station area. You can jump right off of Bart and be within a 100 steps of the place. Be forewarned, it's tiny and you may wind up sitting outside but the company is good and the atmosphere lively. If you go at night, many people park for free in the BART structure across the street. We went because of a review in a foodie magazine which praised it to the skies. It IS great for what it is. The tastes are bright and fresh without being overwhelmingly spicy. We had the Lok Lak, a shaken beef dish and the chicken Kuri and shared a bowl of noodle soup. The noodles were excellent and so was the curry. Won't order the shaken beef dish not because it wasn't very good but because I love the Shaken Beef from Slanted Door in SF more. The people next to us highly recommended the pork belly. They have beer but we noticed that several people had brought in their own wine. If you want dessert, Powder is just across the way and serves great beignets. Oh, the pinata store right beside the restaurant had a Trump and a red Lambo pinata. Enjoy. Oh we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. They weren't taking reservations at the time we went. If you can't get in try Reems in the same complex. It was appeared in a national mag as one of the best new restaurants. You can't lose by going to Fruitvale (and do take the BART, it's just too convenient.
