O Frade Lisboa Reviews from The Last Year
Phenomenal duck rice! Bravo!
Ordered their famous duck rice, and it was completely divine. Duck rice had chorizo, orange and port wine flavors. A little bit on the pricier side but they give back with huge portions. Love the wine pairing. The place is a little small, with a U-bar table so it can get a little busy if you're in a hurry. Will definitely try their other dishes when i come back!
Great experience
Rabbit starter was a delight as was the egg and asparagus. Mains were oxtail and duck rice both of which were excellent. Service excellent, staff very helpful and friendly . Would definitely recommend! The whole experience of dining at the counter with other customers just added to the experience.q
Amazing service and food! Our waiter Alex was so fantastic.
He helped us through the menu, and gave the best recommendations. Made the experience 10/10!! Ask for Alex!
I have been in hundreds of restaurants in Europe.
This instantly became one of my favorites. It is a small family run establishment with outstanding food and service. We tried a little bit of everything and it was outstanding. We had rabbit, razor clams, oxtail, tuna and many other things. The service was friendly and very attentive without being over bearing. Much of the food is prepared in front of you, if you choose to sit inside at the horse shoe shaped bar. Just when we thought we could eat another thing the party next to us had dessert so we had to as well. A marvelous establishment. I read one other review saying they had gotten ill an hour after eating there. Most diners don't realize most food born illness takes several hour or even days to make you ill. The food quality and preparation was top notch. We will definitely make this a stop every time we are in Portugal!
Triple Nuts
Excellent food, 5* service. Super friendly Alex!! I recommend the Triple Nuts dessert!!! Repeating. Same!!!!
Okay but…
Good but average service and addition of a 10% bonus on the bill... which makes you believe that it is included in the price. Not pretty pretty…
Best place in Lisbon
Just WOW ! Super amazing food. Wine is top. The service and the stuff are super friendly. Can’t recommend enough. The best place in Lisbon I’ve been in 5 years. Been here 3 times and every time is better than the other PS Lemon merengue desert is to die for
I would go again.
The two of us stopped for lunch, looking for a place off the beaten path. The place was very small, crowded and it was not promising that we would get in without a reservation. The manager said we could have a glass of wine and wait for a spot. When a spot was available we were seated at a horseshoe shaped bar and were treated to an amazing lunch, Razor clams as the starter. Bean and octopus stew for my husband. Duck rice for me. Plenty of wine and espresso. We watched the meals being prepped from our seats. The staff was so friendly and treated us like family. This was the highlight of our day. Thank you O Farde!
There are two different O Frade locations - one in Time Out
There are two different O Frade locations - one in Time Out market and another standalone restaurant that is recognized by the Michelin Guide. My review is for the standalone restaurant! We walked in for a late lunch without reservations, it was a 2PM on an April weekday. We were able to be seated immediately at the counter indoors. I love how this restaurant is set up. All diners sit at a U-shaped bar and you can watch the chefs work their magic. The service was fantastic!! We ordered four dishes for three persons: the almond salad, the asparagus with eggs, the tartar, and the feijoada (whatever the dish with the black beans is called). Everything was good. I honestly thought it would be...better? Due to the Michelin guide distinction in a city known for fantastic food. O Frade is one of the better restaurants I've tried in Lisbon but I've had better tapas elsewhere. For instance, the steak tartar here is very good but not as quality as the one at Cafe de Sao Bento. The asparagus with eggs was good as well, but wasn't interesting in texture or presentation. The salad was...well, just a salad.
Huge disappointment
Any food, any service, on the other hand, top-notch addition, to avoid! PS: my daughter whispers in my ear, more sauce than salad, that says it all!
Excellent restaurant
Went to the Time Out market as soon as we arrived in Lisbon and found this gem of a place. We had Ofrade's pie for starters followed by cod with herbs and pepper for my wife and a fish stew for me involving skate cod and potatoes with coriander which were both delicious. We followed this with a beautiful Portuguese style egg sorbet with mango and passion fruit which was just to die for. We liked it so much that we have just been back and tried the octopus which was simply sublime. The staff are wonderful and friendly, only too happy to help. The white wine is perfect for the food. It isn't off as one contributor suggested but a different style.
This review is for O Frade at the Time Out Market.
Ordered a vegetable salad and duck rice. Approximately an hour later, I began to experience nausea, followed by two hours of non-stop diarrhea, and ultimately vomiting (which included pieces of duck meat and orange peel (an ingredient in the dish). Terrible experience!
We were close to Time Out Market and thought we would give
We were close to Time Out Market and thought we would give it a try again and once again we couldn't find anything inside and we happened to be walking by this place outside and people were getting up so we grabbed the table by luck not even knowing if it was any good! Well it was amazing! We had some of the best dishes of our trip. The service was very good, the food amazing. Andrew's fish stew I could eat every single day for the rest of my life and I cannot replicate it! My Duck Rice, was so flavorful I don't even know what it was but it was amazing. The flavors in the food here are just outstanding. It was very affordable for what you get. We were sad that this was the last day of our trip because we would have eaten here again it was that good! We did not get a chance to sit inside and watch the counter but sitting outside was still very worth the amazing dishes.
Stopping in for traditional Portuguese lunch.
This location does take reservations and they are highly recommended even for lunch! Located a two minute walk from the National coach museum makes it a convenient stop after doing a little bit of touring. This location is a very small restaurant with outdoor dining as well as bar seating area - maybe 30 seats total? A nice selection of beer and wine, including Amphora. We were a little early for a reservation, and with seating so tight, the maître D kindly offered us the wine menu and we went ahead and enjoyed a glass while we stood outside. We were seated at the bar where we had a birdseye view of food preparation, which was just phenomenal. Despite our servers warning, we went ahead and ordered two starters and two entrées so we could sample as much as possible. The razor clam appetizer with its finely minced ingredients and delicate flavor reminded us a little bit of an empanada in a fluffy potato like shell. The lard was thinly sliced and prepared with a blowtorch, garlic olive oil, a little lemon zest, and some salt was phenomenal with the bread as a tapas like dish. We also enjoyed the mushroom rice vegetarian dish, which had such a unique flavor that incorporated horseradish and delicate fresh herbs that it was one of a kind. The octopus with beans was clearly influenced as a stew type dish and offered unique flavors with a rich sauce. We loved the amphora wine which reminded us of a light sherry and also the crisp white wine with our main dish. Beer on tap offerings are local. Everything about this little restaurant yells come back quick!
Monk fish special was great.
Fans salad was interesting and delightful. Sweet sour dressing, mustard seeds, and vegies made a treat. Little pork pie appetizer wow! Fun to sit inside at hotshot counter and watch chef complete final touches . Good house wine. Service was very good and no rush. A bit cramped inside and outside is for larger groups!

If I could give service 10 stars I totally would! Our server was super helpful with helping us make a decision on the food. I love olives so naturally I had to have the pitted olives in olive oil and the prawns. My friend had the chicken and I stole some and wished I had also got the chicken and rice plate haha. I really enjoyed watching everything be cooked to order. We sat at the bar and got to enjoy the cooking while we ate. The overall vibe of the time-out is very fun and fast paced we really enjoyed it.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
