No longer worth the money.
This used to be by far our favorite restaurant in Boston. But ever since they switched from an ร la cart menu to a strict prixe fixe menu, it went downhill noticeably. We were there tonight โ a party of six. The food was just OK. But what really made things terrible, was that the time between servings was outrageously long. Average was 15 minutes in between servings, and I actually started timing it. Bear in mind that each serving is just one small piece of sushi per person. So when you have to wait 15 or more minutes between those servings, you spend most of your time being quite hungry and bored. When at one point my timer showed that 26 minutes have elapsed from the last time we received a serving, I called the manager and explained that at this price point they need to do far better, because this is no longer a pleasant dining experience. He simply shrugged me off. I would say that we spent 95% of our time just sitting around, waiting for the next serving to arrive - and the entire experience start to finish took almost 4 hours. At $500 per person this is no longer a restaurant worthy of our business. We have been patrons here for over 10 years but we are not coming back
Be the first to ReplyHigh anticipation, deeply disappointed.
Our party of four visited last night with high anticipation and excitement. We waited two months for our reservation and read so many wonderful things about O Ya. We are adventurous eaters and had no problem with the unique offerings of the Twenty course dining experience and also no problem with the price point of the experience. With that price point you do have an expectation of a certain level of service and quality of food. Our initial waitress although friendly did not know the courses as she should have. She did not know what fish was in a certain course, just told us each course by the description on the menu and rushed out the first five courses and then took forty-five minutes for the last three, basically forgetting us. Luckily, in between another waitress (she had glasses, nobody introduced themselves so I donโt know names) served us several courses. What a difference. She brought over a course, explained the dish, described how the different ingredients would taste in our mouth and how to eat it such as better in one bite or take bites because youโll notice certain things. Completely prepared. As far as the actual food, the tuna was such a letdown. I noticed right away it tasted fishy which if you eat fish you know it shouldnโt. We catch Bluefin ourselves so we know what fresh tuna should taste like and we all agreed it did not taste fresh. If you are going to charge a high price point, you need to match that with a high level of service and food quality.

Stopped here for a snack and drink with family. The nachos were delicious. My parents had the blood orange margarita and really enjoyed them. My boyfriend and I had the rose cider, it was good.
Be the first to ReplyUnforgettable experience
In the pantheon of fine meals thereโs great and thereโs those that transcend greatness and indelibly stamp themselves on your brain. O Ya is among the latter. Among the offerings some integrated caviar, sea urchin and wrapped up with a wagyu beef course. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very helpful with our sake pairings. I like to go nuts with my credit card on anniversary dinners and O Ya was worth every penny. I would gladly go back and itโs a must try for anybody who loves sushi.

Be the first to ReplyAmazing Dinner Experience
This place was amazing! First off let me say, DO NOT GO HERE if you want to be like some of the other peeps complaining of the price. Everyone know the price before they even order, so if you donโt have the money for it then take your BROKE ASS home! This is an omakase style restaurant, so you donโt order your food, itโs basically a huge pre fixe menu. We had approx 20 courses, and every course was delicious, however, my favorite was the Kyoto style mushroom sushi and the bluefin chutoro sushi, they was absolutely to die for! Keep in mind, because there are so many courses, each course is only one bites worth approximately. Also, keep an open mind, you will experience a plethora of flavor combinations and some might be a little out of the ordinary, but they were all so carefully thought out, to the point where I kept thinking โI literally would have never put the flavors together but they work so perfectly itโs incredible!โ Anyways, it was such an amazing experience and we were so glad we came and enjoyed ourselves, even if the price was a little higher than we normally pay, it was worth every penny. Itโs an entire experience, not just a meal. Thanks to all the staff of O Ya for an amazing evening!!! Wish I had taken pictures but it just slipped my mind bc I was in pure bliss as they brought out course after course after course. Also, service was impeccable, we never waited over 2-3 minutes for the next course once finished with whatever course we had at the moment.

Be the first to ReplyO Ya I want all your sushi in my mouth....
Oh Yeah, O Ya is the best Sushi I have ever put in my mouth... Dumb expensive and worth every bite . Insane creations they got going on there. The sushi and the staff were outta this world. We got lucky enough to get in after a phone call and the time was at 930 pm....but we did it. And let me tell you....we would do it again. If you have been eating sushi all your life.... treat yourself to OYa so you can see how its really done. Small small small place. Getting in is the hardest part. But once your there prepare to be in for a treat. Everything was spectacular. And the host was a sweetheart and our waiter was phenomenal....Epic night...can't wait to do it again.

Expensive but worth it!
We knew it would be an expensive meal so we were prepared to spend a decent amount. Jessica, our waitress was not pushy and she gave us a few tips for the menu which was helpful. The food really was outstanding. We sat at the counter and it was a great experience to see the chefs crafting each dish. We had Tempura Mushroom, Pork Belly, Prawn Ramen and some sashimi and nigiri. The food was fantastic and we would highly recommend. Everything was truly delicious! We spent around ยฃ130 / $170.
Be the first to ReplyA Vegetarian Grand Omakase
My spouse loves Japanese food, but as a vegetarian I am usually the stick in the mud when it comes to Omakase. O Ya pulled it off however - a 21 course Omakase to match the 'regular' one, highly creative in presentation and flavor, completely vegetarian. The bites generally ranged from very good to sheer bliss, with one or two bites that were good but not super spectacular (the avocado tower was beautifully done in terms of presentation, but was still mostly a chopped avocado). They do not advertise the vegetarian Omakase, but they do have a separate vegetarian a la carte menu which served as the base for this bonanza. And according to the spouse, the 'regular' Omakase is to die for. We had the sake / wine pairing, which we highly recommend, you get a new pour every three dishes. Not cheap, but well worth the money.
