O-Ku Nashville Reviews from The Last Year
I've been twice and the food and service were stellar.
It's always a packed house so I definitely recommend making reservations. The esthetic is intimate (dimly lit) but it can be a comfortably loud environment. Parking is available in the paid lot adjacent to the restaurant.
Absolutely adored O-Ku.
There is just nothing bad on the menu. It's been on my list for quite a while, and I was not disappointed. We went for my mother's birthday, and they gave us a special menu that said Happy Birthday and any dessert of our choosing on the menu or free. The interior is beautiful, though a little more dimly lit at the actual tables than my liking, but our server was so so helpful and attentive. We were his first table after training, and he gave us some great recommendations, walked us through the whole menu (recommending what/how much to get), and topped off our water and any fallen utensils periodically. He also made sure the food was timed out well to arrive at our table. I recommend ordering everything you want and sharing it all amongst your table. Here's what we ordered: -Usuzukuri: 9/10 - The salmon was beyond fresh, and the ponzu sauce was absolutely delectable. You get 6 sashimi size pieces, and it is a great, very traditional beginning to the meal. -Charred Broccolini: 10/10 - This was a sleeper. Wow, the chili butter made the flavor so rich and savory, while the broccolini itself was crisp and had a great bite to it. A perfect side dish. -Kung Pao Caulfilower: 7/10 - It was good, but it honestly was just fried cauliflower. It tasted mostly of the tempura fried batter, but there was definitely a yummy sauce to it, and we did enjoy that it wasn't too sweet! Just not my favorite dish of the night. -Kamo-Negi: 10/10 - This is a MUST. The duck is perfectly cooked, juicy, and umami. You get two skewers, each with two medium sized pieces of duck breast. This is duck done well... and you just HAVE to get it. -Playboy Roll: 9/10 - I loved how interesting this roll was. The goat cheese mousse carried the texture and flavor, and it was just so unlike most sushi rolls I've had in that it had a more creamy, warm feel rather than a fresh one. It might've benefitted from a punch of freshness, which is why I leave room for improvement. -Shogun Roll: 8/10 - Went in with high expectations, thoroughly enjoyed, but wasn't obsessed. This is the fresh roll you want, and the spicy tuna is absolutely lovely. -Eel of Fortune Roll: 9.5/10 - Man, was this good. I think it's because I didn't go in thinking it would, but the pieces just melted in my mouth, and the taste of the unagi was just divine. Highly recommend this one, but just know it is a smaller roll than the other two. -2oz Tobanyaki (Tableside Wagyu): 10/10 - YOU MUST DO THIS! It's expensive, but it is SO fun and SO delicious. You get 6-8 small squares of INCREDIBLY delicious wagyu (warning: this is NOT A LOT! This is for taste, not to fill your stomach). You also get black lava salt, confit onions, pickled wasabi stem, and cabbage. They bring out a hot stone and little tongs for you to cook the meat yourself, which you should ONLY cook for 2-3 second per side in order to get the best, buttery, meaty flavor. I also recommend cooking the confit onions on the hot stone, then topping your piece of wagyu with a bit of the onion, wasabi stem, and lava salt before enjoying. -Miso Chocolate Molten Cake: 10/10 - This warm, gooey dessert just melts in your mouth, the miso bringing a depth to the chocolate that is absolutely genius. A blissful bite of heaven. (An honorable mention for the pickled ginger, which was the freshest and crispest I've had.) So I don't think you need me to tell you... GO HERE! Especially if you're a foodie. And try a bit of everything. (P.S. for the Oku team... you guys are such an upscale and authentically artistic restaurant, so naming your rolls the Titan Roll and the Nashvegas feels tacky.)
My mouth salivates instantly when my friends say this is
My mouth salivates instantly when my friends say this is where we are going. Fav sushi spot in Nashville. Vibes are immaculate. Parking is not the best, but there is a pay lot attached and there's always spaces there. Greg was super helpful and even gave us slices of cucumbers and citrus for our waters! Love it. Every sushi roll he suggested we ordered and ate so fast I didn't get a picture- but the table's top 2 faves were the Tennessee Two Step and the Shogun rolls.
My husband has been to O-ku a few times, so I got to
My husband has been to O-ku a few times, so I got to finally try it! I think it's really hard to find good seafood in Nashville, but this place is the better one in the city. Some favorite dishes: Playboy roll, rock shrimp, sake harami salmon belly, king pao cauliflower The service was great. I ordered something I reallyyyyyy wasn't vibing with, and the staff kindly replaced my roll. So kind! And ambiance is really nice too. The restaurant is clean, and has a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Will be back for sure
In Nashville for my daughter's birthday and a friend
In Nashville for my daughter's birthday and a friend recommended O-Ku. We did make a reservation for 4, we would not have gotten in without it. We ordered the rock shrimp appetizer which did have too much sauce on it and took away from the shrimp but hhw truffle oil edamame was amazing! We then ordered a few rolls to share and my husband got a chicken, bok choy & rice bowl and it was the best rice bowl we've ever eaten. The flavors were all good! Our server Amirah was the best!

My go-to fancier sushi spot! They overnight their fish from Hawaii and Japan. And you can absolutely taste the difference!
O-ku never fails! This has got to be one of my favorite
O-ku never fails! This has got to be one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. My only complaint is that I wish they had more rolls to choose from. The rolls they have are great, but only a select option for specialty rolls. I definitely recommend making a reservation, but they can still take walk ins if a table is available. APPETIZERS Kung pao cauliflower- a great starter, especially if you are looking for a vegetarian option. Rock shrimp- this is tied for top tier with the uzusukuri. The rock shrimp is perfectly battered, crispy, and flavorful. Uzusukuri- salmon sashimi with a refreshing citrusy ponzu sauce. Shishito peppers- a pretty sizable serving edamame- I recommend the kimchi glaze! ROLLS Shogun- slight heat, very fresh flavor. Tennessee two step- a go to for me. Crunchy tempura, but still has fresh raw fish on top. Rainbow roll- a classic, great for beginners. playboy- pretty good, interesting profile, but no raw fish on this one. That might be a plus for some! Nashvegas- very large rolls, I always forget they are tempura fried and order them- I prefer my sushi cold but Im not surprised that this is a fan favorite DESSERT The miso lava cake is a great way to end your meal.
Rock shrimp was definitely a highlight of the meal.
I enjoyed both the Shogun and the Tennessee two step, but I think the two step had the upper hand on the shogun. The restaurant itself was really cool and had a fun upbeat vibe as they played music relatively loud. Our waiter Justus was super friendly!
Fun atmosphere and amazing sushi! It was packed so we sat
Fun atmosphere and amazing sushi! It was packed so we sat at the bar and the service was still great. Would recommend to anyone craving a sushi night!
Pricey sushi and not much variety.
Best roll we had was the Tennessee two step. Shrimp tempura on the inside and salmon on top. Otherwise, rolls were good but nothing spectacular. Best thing was the salmon sashimi and salmon usuzukuri. Fresh raw salmon - so amazing and simple!
