Olio Biscotti Vieste Reviews from The Last Year
Learning about olives
The tour was great! We learnt so much about growing olives and the making of olive oil and the platter of food at the end was so tasty.
Highly recommended- really interesting
The experience was interesting and extremely informative. It was great to get out into the olive groves learning from a passionate professional while amongst 500+ year old trees. Makes you appreciate olive oil even more, and those who produce the organic product.
worth a visit :)
Even though I didn't have the opportunity to walk among the olive trees (because the weather protested that day) and experience the authentic interpretation from the pleasant and always smiling owner surrounded by olive trees, Pier provided us with all the information and interesting things while tasting local products, supplemented with oil. It is amazing to see the passion and enthusiasm with which Pier provides all his knowledge about the processing and production of olive oil. The oil was really unique and so delicate that we didn't doubt for a second about its purchase :). In addition, it is possible to buy wine, flour, pasta and other local specialties from him. She will be very happy to come back here and I believe, and I will take the tour again, as it should be.
It was a great time with my family!
Pier was really friendly and explained things well, which was great! It was a very informative experience as it explained organically grown olives in Italy in a fun and easy-to-understand manner for the general public, starting with their history and the process of growing, cultivating, and turning them into olive oil! I went with my family, and it was a valuable time where we could have fun together and learn about olives at the same time. And the snacks given to you to taste after the tour were so generous that they could be considered a meal, and it was nice to be able to taste many different types of food. I think it tasted better because my mother prepared it herself :) I want to visit again! I recommend it!!
Great tour, great food & great olive oil
The tour was nothing short of excellent. Pier, our guide (and the owner of a small organic olive oil plantation) was wonderfully informative, funny, and passionate about organic olive oil. He really made us appreciate the wonder of what goes into growing and tending the ancient, majestic olive trees that yield this remarkable fruit, and then all aspects of harvesting, creating and preserving the oil. Back at the house, his mother is an inspired chef who created a lovely lunch for us — featuring an excellent, full-flavored olive oil. We imagine it’s a great tour any time of year, but being there in early November was extra special, as it was right at harvest time. The trees were heavy with ripe fruit, and (a safe distance away) men were harvesting the olives using tools unlike any we had seen before. Four thumbs way up.
Fantastic visit
It was a super interesting visit, fantastic history and exciting to see the old trees and understand the production. Pierluigi was an excellent host and we enjoyed lovely food and drink .. and bought olive oil to take home. Muito grazie
Amazing afternoon at the olive yards
The tour was just amazing. First, we drove to the oliveyards and our guide, Pierluigi, explained the whole process of how the plants are treated until they are ready to be harvested. It was informative and funny. He has a huge knowledge about everything concerning the olive trees and he could answer all of our (many) questions. We didn't only learned about the olive trees and the oil but also got some background information about the industry behind the olive oil production of the region Apulia. Afterwards we walked through the yard and he showed us the oldest ( about 1000 years!) and their biggest olive tree. He was really considerate with the following tasting as we were restricted by some diet rules. He offered us a special tasting which took our diet rules in account. All in all one of the best things we did during our stay in Vieste and I would definitly recommend to go their.
Wonderful tour
It was absolutely wonderful from Start to finish. Learned the process of cultivating, pruning and harvesting the Olives, and then preparing the ground, the organic farming methods, and the the processes of the Olives into oil. We purchased wine and oil. Had a wonderful meal with others delightfully prepared by the owners mother. Cannot think of a better way to spend an evening!
Fun, Educational, AND Scrumptious !!
This is definitely NOT your typical tour....it far exceeded our expectations as it was led by a brilliantly talented young man, Pierluigi. He is the third generation olive grower on the family farm, and is without a doubt the most passionate caretaker we've ever met. He provided us with an enthusiastic and clear narrative in the field regarding the organic nurturing required to tend to 2000 trees, some of which exceed 500 years old, and continue to yield amazing fruit. Following the field trip, we were treated to the most amazing cheese and prosciutto platter prepared by his mom, and a brief tour of the stainless steel vats and bottling area. He personally filled, capped, and labeled the bottle we purchased while we watched. We could not have been more pleased with the session, and hope that anyone reading this will make the time to support this fine entrepreneur.
Superb -very informative and great food included
We had a super time - a really interesting walk around the olive grove ( short car trip away ) and a chance to listen to the hard work needed to continue with the organic farming methods - and then an unexpected super meal with home brewed wine and delightful conversation - offering the chance to sample the olive oil with bread. We later purchased some wine and olive oil as we were very impressed with both . I can’t praise this trip highly enough , PierLuigi is following in his generation’s footsteps of growing olive trees and making oil and is very informative about pests, diseases, fertilisation, pruning , and milling of the olives. We had a terrific enjoyable evening which is extremely good value for money .
Olive professional with heart
We went to see Pierre at very short notice after making a reservation by phone. As we have a few olive trees ourselves but are beginners, we were hoping for some information about the plants. Our expectations were fully met. Pier is a real professional. The tour through his olive grove was very informative. We were able to ask all the questions we had. At the end of the tour, there was an excellent dinner in his cantina. Pier speaks very good German and comes across as very honest and authentic. If you want to know something about olives, pruning, care and harvesting, you have come to the right place. THANK YOU again for your time, Pier.
Discovering olive trees and their secrets
We were welcomed by Pier, owner and expert in olive trees and "olio evo". During the visit to the olive trees we learned a lot about them and their life cycle. We were surprised to come across an olive tree of around 1000, still producing. The tasting offered was surprising and fantastic, prepared on the spot by Pier and his kind mother, with fresh products harvested from the "orto" itself, accompanied by a special wine also of their own production. Finally, we were still able to buy their products and bring a little of that unforgettable experience to Brazil.
Location, natural, Organic Olive oil Grove. Not to be missed.
My wife and I were visiting the Veiste area on vacation and wanted to view an organic Olive tree operation. We and another couple along with Pier's took us through the ages of olive trees, and described the process of maintaining the ground the process of the harvest the olives. From there we made it back to his store where his mother was meticulously made all guest there own charcuterie plate. So much and was really tasty. Piers was a total gentleman and very proud of taking over the family olive groves down from his father. You could see that this is, and will be a passion of love for this operation. Would recommend highly on anyone in the area. Ciao Piers!!

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
