Osteria La Buca Ventura Boulevard Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Our quest for GREAT Italian food continues ! I wanted to
Our quest for GREAT Italian food continues ! I wanted to say our quest continues NO LONGER after dining at Osteria La Buca, but unfortunately, I canNOT say that. Simply put, it wasn't that good. It wasn't the worst, but I expected A LOT MORE, especially with so many rave reviews. Yet, I knew in my heart that since it IS a trendy restaurant in Sherman Oaks, I probably wasn't going to like it... and I was right. The only aspect of this trendy restaurant that surprised me in a good way was that the seats were very comfortable... something that usually doesn't happen at trendy restaurants. EVER. However, it's the food that truly matters, so let's discuss what went wrong. It started with the bread. You know, the French people aren't the only ones who care about their bread. So do the Italians, and as celebrity chef, Scott Conant, taught me at the now defunct (Beverly Hills) Scarpetta, bread should be celebrated in a variety of ways in a bread basket that is placed on every table filled with MANY amazing goodies. Tonight, however, at Osteria La Buca, a very tiny little bag was placed on our table. Inside, were two tiny pieces of rosemary-infused bread. That's it. Not even olive oil, balsamic vinegar, or butter was anywhere to be found. We eventually asked for some olive oil and butter. I should have taken the olive oil, but instead opted for the butter. Mistake. The bread, aside from smelling of the fragrant rosemary, had no other flavor to it. Nothing. So when I then spread plain UNsalted butter on the flavorless bread, tiny piece that it was, I didn't even finish it. THIS Italian restaurant apparently doesn't care about its bread. But I still do. Then we ordered some grilled octopus and artichokes. These dishes had promise, and I did enjoy them to some extent. The artichokes had a wonderful texture and were beautifully soft and tender. Ironically, the parmesan cheese was naturally salty and was almost overpowering the delicate flavor of the artichoke. Don't get me wrong, though, I definitely enjoyed this. The octopus was quite unusual. The ingredients included Thai chili vinaigrette that was VERY tasty but a bit spicy, forbidden (black) rice, and the scallion-herbed yogurt helped to counteract the spiciness of the Thai chili vinaigrette. The octopus, too, was a tasty dish, but it was missing a bit of salt. The rice helped with that. I'm going make a blanket statement that started with the bread and continued throughout the meal. I don't think this restaurant uses much in the way of salt, herbs and spices. They use them, but like the decor in the restaurant, minimally. VERY minimally. Especially the salt. The scallioned yogurt should have had a pinch of salt. The butter should have been salted that we put on our bread... because the bread wasn't salted either. The broccolini, the crispy potatoes... again, no salt, and no flavor. They were listed with ingredients that should've added flavor, but trust me..... there weren't any (added ingredients) to flavor to these foods. What about using herbs and spices? They just didn't, and if they did, clearly, it wasn't enough. We won't even discuss their allegedly famous Pomodoro sauce (used in the chicken parmesan that we ordered). No flavor. The last I heard, it's not a crime to add herbs or spices. Add something for gosh sakes. Italians are ALL ABOUT FLAVOR. So on to the chicken parm. It wasn't bad, but it was missing SOMETHING. Well, it was the sauce. I'm a saucy gal !! GIVE ME SAUCE, and give me a lot... oh and by the way, it better have flavor. The sauce in the chicken parm, yeah, I could see it, but it was on the dry side. They baked it into the bread crumb mixture. The bread crumbs were flavorful, but the tomato sauce, well, it was minimally placed, and it was just a plain tomato flavor. Once again, if they added any herbs or spices, I couldn't see them, and I sure couldn't taste them. This is my favorite part, though... I had to request extra Pomodoro sauce because it wasn't saucy enough for my liking. They brought out a tiny, tiny little thimble of sauce... not even any tomato chunks, just thin, bland nothing of sauce. It was about 2 oz. MAYBE. Here's my favorite part... what I didn't know is that they then charged me $2.00 for a thimble full of plain, boring tomato sauce. $2.00. I have never EVER EVER been charged for asking for more sauce. Anywhere for anything. I was so stunned that I just started laughing. I really couldn't believe it. Still can't. This is not what Italian food should be like, and these trendy restaurants need to stay away from suggesting that they prepare classic ITALIAN food. I clearly don't understand why they feel a need to reinvent what is tried and true. Classic Italian cooking is perfection, and this restaurant is far from that !

Food is phenomenal, the ambience is great! The wine is perfect. I highly recommend making a reservation instead of just walking in. It's always busy, but that's a good thing!
Came here on a Monday night with some friends.
Parking was easy to find probably due to the fact that it was a Monday. They also offer valet in front as well if you don't want to hassle with parking. We ordered: - Crispy Brussels sprouts: 8/10 - VERY delicious! I wouldn't say they were crispy since it is topped with a sauce but it was a great starter nonetheless. Had that nice green taste of the brussels but the sauce and parmesan brought some citrus and savoriness to the dish overall. It was also a HUGE portion so definitely a sharable appetizer for 4 to 6 people, depending on how hungry you are. - Octopus 9/10 - This was so yummy! The sauce that it came with had some spice to it and crunch which paired so well with the octopus. I will say that the octopus was just a tad bit overcooked but was not overly chewy. - Sausage N' Peppers Pizza: 10/10 - I liked this pizza! This is a handmade thin-crust pizza. The peppers had a nice heat to them but not overly spicy, the sausage was very savory and the ricotta helped break some of the savoriness so it was a very well-balanced pizza. - Guanciale Pizza: 6/10 - Felt that there was not enough guanciale for the size and price of the pizza. Was also hoping it would be crispy but it wasn't. - Short Rib Ravioli: 10/10 - The best dish of the night!!! So flavorful and savory. The meat inside the ravioli was so tender and tasty. The waiter was very attentive and gave some great recommendations. Definitely will come back if I am ever back in the area.

It's unfortunate that I have to give this review, as I love
It's unfortunate that I have to give this review, as I love the location of Osteria and the ambiance. I ordered the Steak Tartare ( which they renamed something Cruda). Do Not Order this if you love Steak Tartare like I do. I have no idea what the chef had in mind but wow! Not appealing in any way. It was just served smashed and spread around the plate w fried onions and super thin slivers of "garlic "? I had to ask for bread or crostini, something and the waiter's assistant looked at me like "yeah, ok". WTF? Rigatoni Cortó was filling but thought the sauce would be heartier. My friend really liked the Sausage and Peppers Pizza. The WA just threw the bread on the table w no plate or butter. Literally tossed it on our table halfway in a wax paper sleeve. What? Too bad. Waitress was super nice and apologetic.

My family took me here for Mother's Day and it was awesome! The food was delicious. We got the ricotta appetizer, it was amazing. I loved my caprese sando. Everyone was pleased. The server was also very kind and kept checking on our table and even chatted with my kids for a bit. The drinks were very good. Such a cute vibe! I will definitely be going again

This was our second time visiting this establishment and we were not disappointed. We all shared the ricotta with toasted bread and the cacio pepe arancini. They were absolutely delicious appetizers. My husband and I split the chicken Parmesan and it was one of the best chicken parm I had ever had. The service was very prompt and the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were fortunate enough to be seated in the outside patio area. I look forward to coming back again.
Some of the best pasta I've had! Definitely recommend
Some of the best pasta I've had! Definitely recommend getting artichoke as well! The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a big selection of wines too, great for a special occasion or date night.
Came here for dinner Sunday night.
Previously liked this place but upon walking in the hostess completely ignored us. She was on her phone and we tried greeting her twice and was ignored both times. When she was finished on her phone she finally greeted us. Besides this the food was not worth the price. Pasta was extremely overcooked and the dish itself was not good. Our waitress was nice but we are definitely never coming back here.

This is one of my top 3 restaurants in Los Angeles, hands down. Literally everything on the menu is of the best quality and delicious. The Parpardelle Bolognese is the best I've had anywhere.
Good lunch spot
Excellent lunchtime pizza with great fresh ingredients. Nice space. Friendly staff. Well located for the studios. Quick service.
Atmosphere, service and food were all excellent.
Our last night in LA, I made 7:30 Monday night Resy dinner reservations for a party of 3. Good choice! Atmosphere, service and food were all excellent. If you are in a time bind, they offer valet parking. We were lucky to get a spot one street back in a residential neighborhood. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated in an upstairs room, cozy with a fireplace. As the night went on if you are seated upstairs, the ceiling shade opens and you can see the sky/stars. The down stairs had a very cozy earthy vibe. We all ordered their Craft Cocktails while looking over the menu. Food ordered that we all shared was the Steak Tartare, Pork Meatballs, Grilled Prawns, Pork Chop and Bucatini Carbonara. All the dished were presented nicely, hot, fresh and tasting delicious. I can't say I had a favorite dish because I loved them all. I would definitely recommend!
Probably the best pizza in America
We walked past by chance while waiting to check in at the hotel. Friendly staff and one of the best pizzas we've ever had. If you're in LA, definitely stop by here.

I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

You should probably cancel prior to the cancellation date per the cancellation policy. I would imagine you would only get reimbursed for a sold listing if you happen to be charged?

My first sale took about a week. But as the other commenter said stay ontop of your cancellation windows. There’s no reimbursement for those so make sure you cancel in time then just try again.
