I would like to start off by saying that Otium is a fine restaurant that serve wonderful, creative dishes which are absolutely fresh and delicious. The setting is beautiful and modern, tucked away in a very artistic, upscale area. The vibe is young and fresh with a fantastic bar setting. The staff is all very friendly and sincere, where the hostesses never appear to be condescending as they do in many upscale restaurants. The servers are well versed in the menu and offer great opinions on some of their favorite dishes. As for the food, the Naan bread is not to be missed as it come out piping hot and absolutely delicious. The potatoes are unrivaled and perhaps the best to be found in any restaurant. A new addition (at least since my last visit) is the Duck Confit Pot Pie which comes out piping hot on a skillet packed full of shredded duck, onions, carrots, etc. The crust is flaky, puffy and the size is gracious! This dish is incredibly flavorful and stands its ground against any traditional pot pie. Overall, a standing ovation to all the chef and his staff who prepare all the delicious plates. My one complaint is the troubling trend that has been developing in many places where restaurants are pushing people to share small plates and dine in a “Tapas” type atmosphere. There is nothing wrong with this style of dining and may be a nice novelty to do so but patrons shouldn’t be pressured into doing so with wait staff getting offended when diners don’t choose to go this route. That just illustrates the pressure that the servers must receive from the restaurant to push this style of dining. As a regular diner, I am familiar with this trend and do not need to be badgered or need to justify why it’s not my preferred choice of dining. It is also not an issue to be debated nor a threat of having plates come out at separate times. I understand ordering a plethora of plates to be shared among the table would be more profitable to the establishment but to aggressively ask patrons to do so is insulting and ruined the entire dining experience. In conclusion, Otium is a wonderful restaurant with fantastic food, a warm but fun environment and a pleasant staff. My one complaint may be a personal one that may not bother others so I DO highly recommend dining here.
