Otway Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year
Waited 40 minutes to not receive eggs and potatoes.
When I finally asked if the food was still coming, a person who seemed like a manager said they would go check on it and just never came back. I eventually told a server I needed to leave. They charged me four dollars for the single coffee I'd been sitting with for the better part of an hour and offered zero acknowledgment of the fact that they never even made the food and wasted my time. Accidents can happen, but it couldn't have been handled more poorly. It's pretty clear the place has a leadership challenge. The food is decent, it is not special, but it is overpriced. I've been a couple times before and noticed, as many others here have pointed out, that the hospitality was lacking and simple orders, even just a cup of coffee, took a very long time, but today was ridiculous. Never going back again.
The breakfast experience has been consistently outstanding.
The quality and taste of their offerings never cease to amaze, making it a reliable go-to spot for a delightful morning meal. The dedication and passion of the staff shine through in every dish, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. In the heart of Clinton Hill, this breakfast spot not only champions women entrepreneurship but also serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of delicious and reliable breakfast options.

Decided to finally try Otway for brunch and see if the experience matched the vibe the photos gave. I would give a 3.5 if half stars were an option. They use Resy as their booking platform and there's a $25pp cancellation fee. It gives you until a few hours before (maybe 6?) but that fee might've been why there was a ton of open reservations when booking the day before and a lot of people trying to come in as walk ins. One member of my party fell victim to weekend MTA disasters and was forced to bus transfer when their train got stuck underground, so we appreciate the Otway staff still honoring the reservation despite their delay. It was a weird experience to feel rushed by the hostess, but also like we had to beg for the servers attention to order. The restaurant could do with one less two top table down the middle, it's crowded and there's a lot of jostling. We were able to move to a wall table - definitely try for one of these. The chai latte was nice sized & not too sweet. The baked goods aren't automatically heated up and the person who ordered theirs as a meal received it immediately after we placed our order which was a little awkward for pacing. The egg sandwich was a nice surprise. It arrived a little underwhelming looking on a small side plate wrapped in foil, but the bread had a slight sweetness to it which really elevated the flavor. Some of the brunch drinks at tables around us looked worth trying and there was a good crowd mix in there. I think I'll try the bakery instead next time and maybe treat the restaurant more like a quick stop option (ie sitting at the cocktail stools at the bar) vs a sit down experience. One interesting flag, at the bottom of the menu it said there would be a $1.50 fee to take any uneaten food to go. That coupled with the reservation cancellation fee that costs more than most menu items was a turnoff. I understand to go supplies cost money and cancelled reservations make it hard to reach cover capacity, but when those issues are handled this way it comes off as a little cold. All in all, give it a shot - either make a reservation for a time you know you won't need to adjust and request a wall seat, or maybe go in slow and grab a seat at the bar for a drink and a pastry.

We had to wait 80 min for our food even with a reservation and a very simple brunch order (eggs and a burger)
Great drinks and overall vibe.
The burger was better than expected. Would go back to try other things too
My new go to Place.
The food is amazing. The staff is kind and welcoming. It has a modern welcoming look to it, and it feels very homely.

Stumbled upon Otway on a Saturday around brunch time and decided to stop for a bite, as there were plenty of available tables. I ordered the deluxe breakfast with bacon and it was tasty -- the bacon and the crispy potatoes were particularly amazing. However, I did find the all-day food menu to be a little limited. This place seems to shine for its pastries and drinks, neither of which I tried on this visit. But with $10 glasses of natural wine and great deals on happy hour cocktails, I'll definitely need to come back.
Such a gem! Food was the best I've had in awhile.
The service is great and the place is cute.
Consistently imaginative menu and great preparation.
Good drink menu, cute space. Don't miss their bakery further down the block.
This is a really solid brunch option.
We sat outside, but the inside is so cute and very minimalist and I would recommend either one. The both of them have great vibes. We got a few drinks and we ended up getting the deluxe breakfast which came pretty fast considering they seem pretty busy for brunch and the deluxe was breakfast was so good. The bacon was really perfectly cooked. Eggs were great. I wish there was a little bit more quantity wise. Potatoes were stellar and actually The toast was so good that I ended up getting more from the bakery next-door because I was so impressed and blown away.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
