We had high hopes for our dinner - the place is nicely decorated and inviting. We had a reservation, and we were seated right away. In the front, near the hostess stand. Try to sit further back in the restaurant, it's much nicer. The good: ambience, pizza, gnocchi, grilled salad. The bad: we did not receive bread when seated, grilled chicken was undercooked (and returned), disinterested/apathetic server, odd music selection which did not seem to fit the vibe. We wanted to love it but did not. Beware of the parking lot next door, it's $30 for 2 hours! Find street parking.
Be the first to ReplyI've been going there for 20 years.
I've suggested this establishment to dozens of people in that time. However, I will now stop. I ordered a simple blackened chicken with my Romana salad. Price tag $24. The waitress wasn't sure whether they could blacken the chicken and asked the chef. He said No! I then spoke to the general manager and she stated they didn't have the spices. What? First, I had blackened chicken at this exact location, one year ago. Secondly, I've never met a chef anywhere who would say they could not meet a simple customer request! Blackening food is simply shaking a couple of simple spices and letting it sear into the food. Next, not being able to meet a simple request at a restaurant that touts its capabilities as "Michelin trained, is quite disappointing. Lastly, no apology was ever offered. Newsflash! Let me help you: to blacken chicken: salt, red pepper flakes, oregano, garlic powder, chili powder, paprika and butter. Does your kitchen have those spices? If not, there is a Stop & Shop 200 yards away!! C'mon man! Step into the hospitality game!

We used to love going to Pasta Beach when we lived in Newport several years ago - food was good, ambiance was casual, and service was friendly. We were excited to share this restaurant with our kids during our vacation to Newport. However, the front desk staff was arrogant and rude - the hostess couldn't be bothered to help us and acted like she was doing us a favor just by speaking to us. After we were seated outside by ourselves (note that we intentionally went during off-hours and the restaurant was not busy), no one came to greet/serve us. After waiting 15 minutes, we decided to leave. I'm a business professor at a major university. If I presented this as a case study to my students, I would recommend that the hostess be let go and that management take a close look at organizational culture. Very disappointing.

I want to love Pasta Beach, it's a beautiful restaurant, lovely patio and service is always friendly and good. The food is just so bland, nothing pops, it is always lacking in flavor. Living locally we have been several times and each time is the same regardless of what we try.

Chef needs to visit Positano and taste what real spaghetti alla Nerano is like. Dish was just awful.
Be the first to ReplyFinally got to try this place right in Newport.
Made a reservation for 2 people but was not crowded at 6pm on Thursday in June. Entrees came out really quick as we skipped drinks and apps- too tired and hungry from walking around all day. Tagliatelle Bolognese dish had plenty of meat and great taste. GF Pasta with Asparagi e Prosciutto used a Rotini shape that worked very well with light cream sauce. Had to request bread for the table but otherwise service was on point. A bit loud with tile walls and open kitchen but could still carry on conversation. Seemed like a few families so kids menu must work. Overall one to return to when in Newport.
Be the first to ReplyWe were seated outdoors in the back, a really nice garden.
We ordered the Mezze Maniche Carbonara (with bacon) and Chitarra con l'Aragosta (lobster with linguine). Both dishes were great. The pasta was cooked to perfectly al dente. Very flavorful.
Be the first to ReplyThe Pasta Beach was an excellent choice for our lunch.
The interior was beautiful and there was also a very nice secluded courtyard. We chose the courtyard. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I was impressed by this as our order was small. We split a margarita pizza and it was very tasty. My only surprise was a 2% kitchen apprehension fee added to the check. I assume this was a tip shared by kitchen staff. I would enjoy going back and trying a pasta dish.

For the prices and what we'd heard via word of mouth we were really hoping this place would be a bit better. Drinks were horribly mixed. A man at the table next to us had to ask for more tonic in his gin and tonic. Two of our table's drinks also tasted nothing like how they were described on the menu. The lasagna was horribly soggy and the Cacio e Pepe was pretty lacking in the Pepe department. The only good meal our table ordered was the carbonara. Our server was also not very attentive, but there was also a table with 14 people in our section, so I understand if her attention was divided. Overall, disappointing. I was looking forward to this place when I made a reservation before my trip.

Great place to go, wasn't to die for but wasn't bad either - definitely worth checking out nonetheless! The vibes are cool and the staff are great!

Service was just okay, nothing above and beyond and nothing to write home about. Drinks were good and probably the best part. Dark setting with candles placed at every table. I personally feel as if the food wasn't worth the price. Carbonara tasted purely of bacon. Overall I think it's fine but we probably won't be back.

Be the first to ReplyOrdered pasta e vongole-pasta with clams It was NOT what
Ordered pasta e vongole-pasta with clams It was NOT what you expect from an Italian restaurant, and CERTAINLY NOT IN RI !!!! A small dish of spaghetti with canned micro clams from ASIA, not fresh cherrystone clams from RI, and a ton of garlic. I kid you not when I say the volume of clam meat in each "clam" was the volume of a green pea, or less, IF you could even get it un-stuck from the shell. This restaurant is in Newport, the most upscale town in the state, which is the clam-center of the universe! Most insulting is they charge $26 for this abomination! I live in RI and have had this in many restaurants here , and prepare this dish myself. I expected something really special for the price and this was complete CRAP. I am sure someone in the restaurant is saying "why didn't you complain"? Well the chef knew darn well what they put on my plate, here in the clam-capitol, and what they charged for it. So I am complaining, in the most visible forum I know. Fire the chef. One other note, think I'm a crabby old fart? Check my other reviews. If I love a place, everyone hears that, too!
Be the first to ReplyFood was good, I had the cacio e pepe.
