A total rip off
Having made reservations a month in advance for this Michelin-rated, romantic restaurant for Valentine's Day, we unfortunately left there wondering why we did not just go to McDonald's. At least the bill for fast food at McD's and their service would not have been in excess of $700 (including tip). When Plume called to confirm our reservation, no one warned us that it was a prix-fix meal with a limited menu. The only choice we had was for one course, either fish or beef, everything else was pre-determined at over $125/person, not including wine. Our displeasure started as soon as we walked in, before we even got settled in & our waiter immediately wanted to know what kind of water we wanted. Our glasses were poured in about 90 seconds, and then we felt pressured and rushed to make a wine and menu choice. They refused to open a special bottle we'd bought for that evening anticipating they'd charge us a steep corkage fee, but that is not an option there-- the sommelier told us it is a "union issue" even though we've been to other Michelin-rated restaurants and never encountered that before. When the food came out, it was luke warm and under-whelming, and the pacing was completely off- we had barely put down our utensils, when the next plate was already arriving. The sea bass was inedible, and the entire time we just felt that they wanted to turn the table over (even though it was not full, and we were not eating at prime time). To go thru a 7 course meal in 1 hr and 15 min says it all, and 48 hours later we still are not over the immense disappointment and profound feeling of being ripped off.

The food used to be good. The wine list used to be good. The service used to be good. All havebeen going downhill slowly for several years now. The restaurant just isnโt good anymore. Avoid this one.
Be the first to ReplyPretentiousness unworthy of a Michelin Star
Classic case of an establishment losing its purpose in an attempt to create an over-the-top menu. e.g. a juniper berry aboard a lifeboat of a single brussel sprout leaf in a sea of gastrique was just silly.
I've had better service at Denny's. Starter champagne glasses sat empty for 20 minutes. Shotgun pellet found in my "wild" partridge, which nearly chipped a tooth, was unforgivable and compounded by the restaurant's lack of remorse. Even though our tasting menu was an all-in, pre-paid gift, we were presented with a bill, just in case we wanted to add to the gratuity.
Experience was not all bad. Sommelier was charming and made great pairing selections. Much of the menu was delicious, just cluttered and without purpose.
For the $$$$ there are better options.
Gorgeous and great food and service
This is the best restaurant in DC. You dine in beautiful surroundings, the food is fabulous and the service excellent. When a friend from out of DC asks me for a recommendation, this is it. No one has ever been disappointed. A special place.
Be the first to ReplyOne of our favorite dining experiences ever
My wife and I went to Plume to celebrate her birthday. We were blown away by the ambiance, service, and the food โ it made for a memorable evening as one of our favorite dining experiences. The food & drinks were spectacular, and the staff went out of their way to make the birthday dinner a special one. Highly recommend!

La Plume provides an outstanding setting, excellent dining ....and exceptional service...at a price. The Christmas prix fixe menu provided an excellent cross section of fowl, fish, and meats, topped off with some unique desserts including an imaginative version of a Yule log.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Michelin Rated Meal Iโve Ever Had
I have seldom been as disappointed in a meal as Christmas dinner at the Plume. The โMichelin 1-starโ did nothing to demonstrate itself deserving of that star. The 3 of 5 in the rankings is for ambiance and staff. As for food, I have never had a meal from a restaurant so highly rated that was so poor. This was 100% not worth the hype or the money. My appetizer was overdone with salt and the sauce was overly sweet. My half a duck entree was over cooked and just two legs. The food was awful. I cannot begin to explain how disappointed a meal this was for Christmas. $600 of pure waste.
Now, maybe they were just trying to bilk locals out of a few hundred dollars for the holidays and their menu is usually worthy of its star, but I can assure you they will not get my business again, not my recommendation to anyone.
Michelin 1 star for a reason but wasn't as good as before
Don't get me wrong, I love Plume. I rave that it is one of the best examples of luxury dining that I have ever had. On my last visit, a little over a week ago, the food, presentation and service were excellent - just as I expect. However, I believe that it took way longer to get my entree that is should. We waited nearly an hour (the whole dinner was close to 3 hours long) for the entree and over 30 minutes after the server told us they were putting on the finishing touches. I am used to dinners in a high caliber restaurant taking 2.5 to 4 hours but when I have, it was for 9-12 courses not 5. Would I go back again, absolutely. However, I would hope the timing of my main course would be closer to my first visit and not this one.
Be the first to ReplyCreative Menu....Beautifully Presented Food
A one star Michelin rated restaurant, Plume offers gracious service in a lovely dining room. We ate there on a Sat. night, and the three course priced fixed menu was a little pricey....$106 per person. There were four of us, and amazingly, we all ordered different items for each course. I wonโt bore you with all 12 different dishes, but may highlight a few that i did not have. For my first course, I ordered the sea scallops with a pumpkin purรฉe and a saffron clam veloute. Our server informed me that they were out...a disappointment. I switched to the risotto with black truffles and a slowed cooked egg. It was a nice amount of shaved black truffles, a real treat, and a very generous portion of risotto. In an example of excellent customer service, our server brought me a complimentary plate of two scallops, which turned out to be my favorite dish of the night. The earthiness of the pumpkin offset nicely the sea taste of the scallops. Someone else at the table had an artfully presented beet puzzle....different colors of beets with a goat cheese pudding and a black walnut dressing. It was almost too pretty to eat! Someone else had the grilled mackerel with pistachio butter....very interesting. My entree was a large chunk of seared halibut with bananas and a green sorrel nage. It was tasty, though I thought that the halibut was slightly over cooked. Other entrees at our table was a veal chop in a red wine reduction and linguini al limone with jumbo lump crabmeat. By dessert, I had begun to lose steam, perhaps due to the late hour and several glasses of wine. I ordered the salted caramel tart with a bourbon ice cream....good, but at this point, I was stuffed. A great but expensive evening.
