Exceptional Lunch Menu
Exceptional value lunch menu. Every course was delicious and portion sizes were spot on. Service was friendly and they went the extra mile to help celebrate my Birthday.
Be the first to ReplyTasty but not unforgettable
We had three-course lunch, 49 pounds, and a couple extra crab tartlets. In general, everything (beef tartare, partridge agnolotti, halibut, chicken) tasted moderately good. The dessert, chocolate parfait, was excellent. What we missed was the artisan element, typical of many star restaurants. The service was friendly, but not very personal.

We were seated in a small private room downstairs, and ordered selections from the tasting menu as well as additions from the a la carte. Wine list was extensive. Dishes were nicely presented and very tasty, however rich. Enjoyed our meal, however the following day 5 out of 6 diners felt queasy and ill for about 24 hours (this was the only meal we shared). Because of this association, we probably wouldn't revisit.
Be the first to ReplyShould be Michelin rated!
This was an excellent find! We first thought on appearance it was just a regular small restaurant/eatery from outside appearance but having experienced its delicacies it should be Michelin starred! First class service from waitresses/waiters, attentive, prompt, courteous and very helpful and friendly plus they explain each of the dishes. Napkins folded when leave the table to go to the toilet etc. - you feel treated like it is a special occasion when itโs just a nice meal out. The food was absolutely superb! Having eaten at many well known top restaurants around the country I can safely say this restaurant needs to be credited with the flavours, appearance and choice it truly offers! You also leave feeling full rather than wanting to dash to the nearest Pret A Manger to fill up on a sandwich! Will definitely be returning and very well done to all on delivering an attentive and amazing experience when the restaurant was full with plenty of turnover of clients - we were unhurried and there was a lovely ambiance - thank you!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect.
We had a few nights down in London and as foodies we searched and did our research. Came across The Portland and secured a reservation at the barstools at the window which turned out to be the perfect place to sit and watch the world while eating top quality food and drinking beautiful wine. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. It was executed perfectly with expertise, great timing, lovely funny staff and no stuffinesses or snobiness. Loved our experience here and would highly recommend. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyNicely understated
Had a tasting menu and there was real variety between the courses with a wide range of well balanced flavour throughout. About ยฃ150 per head with wine is a little punchy for me for the overall experience provided but very pleasant nonetheless.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic!!!
Every dish well-composed, exciting and surprising. A fabulous service too! And as i suffer from some nutricional allergies - they were prepared with a menue card where there was already indicated what i could have or not. So we had a lovely evening there - thanks a lot. And when we return to London we will return to Portland - for sure!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect evening
Thank you to The Portland for such a lovely anniversary visit. The food, service and atmosphere of the restaurant was outstanding. My first visit but definitely not my last.
Be the first to ReplyExquisite meal
Portland is the perfect location for a special occasion or celebratory meal - we went for my father's birthday. Everything from the bread & butter to the amuse-bouche to the mains to the dessert was divine, the wine was delicious and paired perfectly with the food, and the service was excellent. Without a new favourite in London after living here for 13 years.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful in every way
We did the tasting menu for lunch and I had given them a headsup regarding our dietary restrictions. They had pescetarian and gluten free menus ready and also accomodated my "no cheese" request. We felt the pacing was absolutely spot on, and each course was as wonderful as the last. We really couldn't pick a favorite, they were all delicious. I hadn't done much reading before booking it, so the "no tablecloths" vibe came as a surprise, but actually, we loved the casual atmosphere. We were fortunate to have a table for 4 though it was only two of us, and we reflected afterward that we were lucky to be seated where we were. It was nice and quiet. The wine list has lots of fantastic options by the glass and I took the opportunity to try some new things, all of which I loved.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food and service
Came here at the weekend with friends. Itโs a nice friendly, informal restaurant, open kitchen and really modern decor. The welcome on arrival was friendly and warm (even though we were running a few minutes late). We went for the tasting menu which was amazing!!! Each dish was well explained and the food was fantastic and we were all full at the end of the meal. The service was 10/10 well worth a visit if you are in London and we will be back when we visit London again!!
Be the first to Replyhigh standards
Portland is a plain and serious place offering top class food excellently presented and knowledgeably served; I was very impressed; Go at lunchtime for the prix fixe menu or get someone else to be the host in the evening for rather more ยฃยฃยฃ!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food . Good service . Thank you
Beautiful food & really good service . We went for lunch . I had delicious risotto as a starter . Home made bread & hay infused hollandaise . For the main I had pollock in a cashew sauce . All fabulous
Be the first to ReplyExceptional experience - brilliant modern dining
As soon as we walked into Portland we knew it was going to be an incredible experience. The dining room had a great vibe, people were talking and laughing with no white tablecloths in sight! We loved the chilled, modern decor and the table set up. Paper menus can be divisive but at least it was a very high quality paper... We were welcomed warmly by a member of staff and this positive experience continued throughout the evening with all of the staff at the restaurant, they were all exceptional. A particular mention to the sommelier; she was very knowledgeable, very friendly and the wine was great. We thoroughly enjoyed all 7 pairings of the tasting menu, it was great to see one was an English sparkling wine. Each generous serving perfectly complementing its respective course. The wine glasses were lovely too - C is a sucker for a good wine glass. As mentioned above, we opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings and at around ยฃ160pp this was worth every penny. The menu is outstanding with a real mix of ingredients and techniques, Portland would be a great intro to Michelin dining due to this. The welcome snacks were exactly as welcome snacks should be, delicious and leaving you excited for whatโs to come โthe parmesan and truffle was incredible, although whatโs not to like! The celeriac risotto served with truffle and almond was delicious and very well balanced, the warm bread and hay infused hollandaise served with this course we would love to be able to eat every dayโฆ The fish courses of trout and Cornish pollock were very fresh and very good-looking dishes - the flavour absolutely matched the presentation. The bouillabaisse really made the pollock dish stand out. They both had a couple of really interesting elements to them too which worked very well. The Hereford beef is a real crowd pleaser; beef, roasted onion, cavolo nero & mushrooms. The beef was cooked perfectly. We werenโt united on our view of the beetroot puree but if you like beetroot โ youโll like it! Potentially too many mushrooms but this could be splitting hairsโฆ The Baron Bigod was the best cheese course we have ever had, as simple as that. The raisin brioche perfectly paired with the truffle cheese. We shared one, as we usually do with a cheese course, but quickly regretted this. You must come to Portland if only to try this. The Yuzu curd was refreshing, sharp and the perfect way to end an exceptional dining experience. This is a must visit restaurant. Value for money is great and the menu, wine and service are all outstanding. We will most definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous meal
We have eaten at a few "rated" establishments but here last night was one of the best. We had the tasting menu with paired wine. All so tasty (our favourite was the trout) and wine had been selected with care. Thoroughly recommended and we will be back!
Be the first to ReplySolo dinner
Had a seat at the counter facing the pavement. The welcome snacks are celeriac risotto were good. The hay infused hollandaise with the bread was outstanding. Loved the trout with the Exmoor caviar and roe. The sauce bordelaise with the quail was divine. The Mont Blanc was a lovely end to the meal. There was a good choice of wines by the glass.
Be the first to ReplyWe loved it and will come back
Everything was just perfect. We had 3 different courses, and each one was worth a Michelin star. Creativ cuisine, but still down to earth. One could taste each single incredirent which united to a perfect harmony. The service was es excellent as the food. This place is my new favorite restaurant in London.

Food was delicious. Beautifully presented. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly service all around. Staff constantly helpful and made efforts to make us feel welcome.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in London (if not the best!)
Another amazing culinary experience at Portland Restaurant. A very different tasting menu reflecting a new season and the freshest available food. This in itself amplifies the talent and further potential alongside their commitment to being one of the best - very best - restaurants in London. It is not surprising that the restaurant is a hive of activity on a Saturday night and not a space to be seen. Despite the busyness, the front of house staff are some of the most attentive, knowledgeable and friendly people that I have come across in the restaurant industry. This is definitely a restaurant and team to watch.
Be the first to ReplyGreat business lunch experience
Went there for a business lunch in the private dining room. Service was really caring and professional, with in depth explanation for each and every meal (starter, main, dessert). We were also treated with a delicious entreรจ and chocolates to end the lunch. Very recommended - will go back to try the dinner experience.
Be the first to ReplyImpressive dining solo experience
Impressive dining experience, I went for the ยฃ69 for 3 courses menu. Everything was delicious and so full Of flavour! The host was very polite and attentive! My only gripe was that I was the window counter seat and for most of my meal The kitchen were bringing out bins to be collected. It wasnโt the best view and maybe could have been done before service commenced
Be the first to ReplyIt is not worthy of a michelin star
The meat dishes are not fully cooked and are too chewy. The desserts are perfunctory. Apparently, they did not pay attention to the desserts at all but put a tart on a plate and threw a scoop of random ice cream on. It does not match the fine dining route that it's supposed to be on at all. Wondering if it's because the Michelin inspector got COVID and loses their taste that got this restaurant a star.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful dining experience
Overall wonderful dining experience. Restaurant is a little bit of the beaten track but worth a detour. Service was friendly and attentive. The 4 course tasting menu is good value for money.
Be the first to ReplyJust superb!
We took the private room to celebrate a wedding, the staff and service were great, the food extremely delicious with a superb choice of wine! Will definitely come back soon!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful lunch menu
We had a fantastic work lunch on Saturday in the private dining room.
Fantastic ambience, wonderful service and amazing food- from the 3 course lunch menu.
The crab tart and the lamb both excellent.
The grilled artichoke accompaniment for the lamb was great- first time it was done perfectly.
The desert of three chocolate cake with artichoke was also amazing- interesting taste.
Good selection for wine and well priced.
