Red Cow Seattle Reviews from The Last Year
Super disappointed given the price point.
We came here to celebrate our anniversary and communicated that to them. Service was disappointing, they sat us by the door which was freezing, and didn't acknowledge special occasion. Our steak was average at best, a little tough. Drinks were good. Overall, expensive and underwhelming
New favorite place to come for happy hour.
Cannot get enough of the steak brochette with horseradish cream! The one time I did try the filet mignon, was cooked to temp perfectly (rare). Service is always fast and friendly :)

tl:dr My problem with the experience was not so much that the food was mediocre but the price that I ended up paying was so significant for that mediocre food. If I wanted to eat mediocre food, there are any number of restaurants in Seattle that I can go to knowing full well what to expect for the money I'd pay. Edit: It's been a day now, and this may seem silly, but I'm still a little grumpy about the fact that I was given ANCHOVY BUTTTER, with no warning, simply labeled as "seasonal butter". What??!! Who does that?! And if this speaks to my perceived lack of a refined palate, so be it. Chunks of anchovies! Came to Red Cow for a special event, and unfortunately, did not feel like it was worth it for the money spent. The good: our server, a gentleman with a groomed beard, was attentive and helpful, the filet mignon and herb compound butter was delicious, the beef tartare was excellent, we had noted the special event on our reservation and it was mentioned by the server and there was a cute note. The bad: the tables are close together but also quite wide between the diners at the same table, making an intimate conversation feel unaccessible. Our rib eye, the most expensive steak on the menu, had far more fat than is enjoyable or edible. The bread and butter came with a butter that was blended with of all things anchovy, which gave a heavy funk and we ultimately asked for just plain butter on the side. The so so: the fries and dipping sauce were fine. The garlic aioli that came with the fries was honestly underwhelming. I'm sorry to say that I genuinely prefer the garlic aioli that comes from PNW fast food chain Burgerville. Outside of the beef tartar (amazing), and the filet mignon none of the items should've been more than 30 or so dollars .
Red Cow is a steak-frites themed restaurant from Ethan
Red Cow is a steak-frites themed restaurant from Ethan Stowell in Seattle's Central District. The location is easily accessible, with plenty of easy street parking nearby. The restaurant interior is attractive, but we sat outside on what was described as a heated patio. Sitting on the patio on a Winter evening was probably a mistake - but the restaurant was clear about the conditions before I booked. The patio is protected from wind, and there was a heater. But I think I underestimated how cold things would be and we both wore our coats through dinner and I regretted not choosing a different restaurant. Menu selection is limited. Really steak frites and appetizers. Menu prices are high. Food quality of the steaks was good, but not commensurate with the prices Most disappointing, the Frites were not fresh cut. A key part of a Steak Frites for me is properly fresh cut fries. You can see in the photos on the Red Cow website that the frites used to be fresh cut (15th photo), but later pictures make it clear that they are no longer. I was hoping that I had mis-read the situation, but sadly the fries were bad. This is inexcusable for a steak-frites place. Weakly recommended. This is a good but not great steak place with decent meats, high prices and bad frites.
Food: 2.
5/5. The "Potato Leek Bisque" was the highlight. The veggies that came with the "Filet Mignon" were too hard and the "Salad Lyonnaise" was super salty. The preset menu was too overpriced, totaling $256 (including 22% service charge). Service: Booked Valentine's Day on Google/SevenRooms. Arrived to find a surprise set menu. Asked to order from the regular menu but the waiter said "No this is the menu for tonight". We told him we would come back another day because we wanted to order from the regular menu. He called his manager over. We faced a threat of a cancellation fee ($95 per person) from the manager who claimed we were informed of the preset menu when making the reservation on their website. I booked through Google/SevenRooms, and there was no mention of the preset menu. Included pictures as proof and even tried booking again for later that night to check if Google/SevenRooms mentioned the preset menu. No mention of a preset menu in any of the confirmation or reminder emails from Google/SevenRooms either. We decided to stay to avoid paying the fee. They ran out of the "Egg Mimosa", an item on the first course menu. How are you gonna have a preset menu but run out of one of the items?? and two hours into opening?? The couple sitting next to us shared our disappointment and confusion about the preset menu. They left. The next couple that replaced their table was confused and disappointed about menu limitations and dish availability of the Egg Mimosa as well. Waiter was nice, but the manager wasn't. He was happy to be getting "free money" (as he said) when the couple sitting next to us dipped though!
Don't believe the hype.
So many things went wrong with our night here to warrant this review. Everything started fine and our server took our drink orders. On two separate occasions, though, she was confused and unaware by what was on the menu and mentioned she hadn't heard of the drink. This is a key part of being a server, no? More on that. After ordering food, it took ONE HOUR for it to arrive, on a Tuesday night that seemed neither slow nor busy. In that time service was sparse. Once it did arrive, two out of our three meals were overcooked compared to how they were ordered. We sent one back which took another 20 minutes. Someone new brought the corrected meal out and after that NOBODY came back to check on if everything was correct and good with us until we asked for the check. Now I should add that they charge a mandatory 22% service fee to every bill so you would expect service to be a top priority. This seems like a glaring issue with this kind of decision in that the incentive to provide any service is lost once the fee is mandated. Subjectively, the food was not good. But that's my opinion and someone else might like it so take with a grain of salt. But it was poorly seasoned so a grain of salt is exactly what was needed. Once we did request our bill, someone new was all of a sudden helping us. This is the first person who came to our table for 25 minutes, after receiving a corrected meal. I asked about our original server and was told she left for the night. Just disappeared without a word to any table. Again, very poor and absent service for a highish end restaurant that requires a "service fee". And for a restaurant that is open 4-10, why is a server leaving right in the middle of dinner service? Strange. We got our bill at 8:50. By this time, what I assume was a manager, had taken over the front table by the window with a laptop and clipboard literally doing back of house work in the front of house like we're at Chilis or something while we have a $250 bill on our table. At 8:50! It wasn't like it was past closing time. They close at 10. Incredibly unprofessional and changing the mood of the entire space for everyone there eating. If this is how ESR operates it will be my last visit to one of their restaurants. Extremely offputting.
Totally not impressed from start to finish.
The host guy was completely rude from the get-go. When we arrived there was a problem with our reservation and they couldn't find it. So we asked if he had room for us, and mentioned it wasn't a big deal if not. He acted completely put out though, but did seat us. We settled in and he came back about 10 minutes later and wanted me to check my email to prove I made a reservation. I was caught off guard by this, and said, I'm not blaming you for this, these things happen, and admitted maybe I did it wrong. He looked more put out, so I asked him if he needed us to leave. Luckily our interactions with him after that were limited. The waitress was nice enough. We both ordered burgers. My friend asked for rare and no pepper. I asked for medium rare and no tomato. She received a well done burger and mine was mooing. We would have traded but mine had pepper. The burgers were actually pretty tasteless as well. The garlic fries were decent though. We both decided that this would be our last time going there. 10 out of 10 do not recommend.
Not worth a visit
If I could give this a lower review I would. The item I wanted was only available on Sunday. That should be on the menu. Ordered arugula salad for $20. Do not mind paying for this but was just a bag of store-bought arugal with a couple of toasted almonds. I can do that at home. Plus it was so salty we had to send it back to have them make another one. I ordered the Cassoulet. It was very good, but again over salted. (and I am a senior who loves food over salted so you can imagine). Ordered brussels sprouts, but were never served. Mussels were just ok. French fries similar to Mcdonald's, here again, nothing to want to come back for. My son had steak. I could tell he was disappointed, but he did not say anything. He cooked better on Christmas. I could not recommend this restaurant. Too many other excellent restaurants in the Seattle area.
We loved this neighborhood restaurant.
The service was great, the food delicious and the restaurant cozy. We all had hamburgers that were delicious and the salad verte was outstanding. Highly recommend if you want a relaxing and casual place for an evening out.
This was not the best experience at Red Cow.
Our first server was very nice and attentive but left after serving our drinks. Our second waiter totally ignored us till I asked him if he was our new waiter. He really did not seem to be into being our server. The chicken liver mouse was fabulous! And then we waited and waited for our main course. We finally asked what was going on and were told it takes 40 minutes to prepare the pork chop that one of us ordered. This was not stated on the menu nor explained to us when it was ordered. Finally our main courses were delivered and by another server (our third)...He at least had a personality and seemed interested in providing good service! The pork chop and venison were enjoyed, but the steak had to much gristle and fat. Sorry, there are too many great place in Seattle to have a great steak and excellent service. Unfortunately, the Red Cow did not deliver during this visit!
We always love going to Red Cow! The staff are always so
We always love going to Red Cow! The staff are always so welcoming. We usually get any of the steaks or the pork chop as our entree, but any other entree we've ordered has also exceeded our expectations! The bread and butter is divine. The roasted beets we had tonight were pretty dreamy! We favor sitting on the patio, but indoor dining is lovely too. It's one of our two go-to places for a nice dinner out.

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
