🤢 2/5 - Hostess Retaliation

The food was great and the service was much better than the two previous times dining at the restaurant. My gripe; the reservation was made two weeks in advance for a weekday dinner. A phone call was made to confirm the reservation. The woman answering the phone pulled up the reservation by name, no problem. We then chatted about our party sitting outside when we arrived if the weather was to our liking. She mentioned the outdoor seating is not reserved but by request once we arrive, of course if available. She did mention since our reservation was so early that we’d have ‘no problem’ getting a table on the patio. We arrived early for the reservation and there were only two tables already seated outside. It was a glorious evening and one of our party members was suffering from an injury making walking difficult. Sitting outside was a perfect remedy. The two of us waited at the patio during check-in by the other guests while the other two went inside to the hostess. They promptly came outside and told us we weren’t allowed to sit outside because we didn’t have a phone number on our reservation! WHAT?!?!?!? I walk in to the hostess and ask if we could sit outside since 98% of the tables were open. She tells me that there was no phone number on our reservation and therefore our reservation was not confirmed so, NO, we cannot sit outside! I explain that the week before I phoned to confirm and I reiterate the whole conversation. At this time the look on her face changes, I see a pink tinge come across her cheeks. As I continue to chat with her I remark that it was probably her I spoke with since her voice sounds familiar (my bad for not asking the person’s name the week before). Then she tells me that the tables are ‘all taken’ and uses the term “reserved” (!) (even though it’s only 5:15) and that there really isn’t a table for us anyway. Really? Has being a hostess turned into a power-play here in Rochester, NY?!! As we continue chatting another woman joins this hostess and they begin talking about this incident. Again, I’m told that ‘all tables are taken and I recommend leaving a phone number on your reservation next time’ - she actually says this to us. OK, girls. But it doesn’t end there. The second female that joined the conversation then followed us to our table with her tablet - inside, of course - to demand a phone number for the ‘reservation’. WTF. Now since I phoned the restaurant exactly a week before to confirm the reservation, why didn’t the woman request a phone number then if it’s such a big deal? And, why does the Resy reservation site permit us to make a reservation with or without a phone number or with an email if preferred? Classless and immature retaliation. Good luck to you both, miserable women.
