Over Christmas week my wife and I took my wife's first trip
Over Christmas week my wife and I took my wife's first trip to Paris and we desperately wanted to have at least one Michelin-starred meal. Despite the holiday crush and closures (combined with a definite lack of foresight on our part), we were fortunate enough to get a lunch reservation at Relais on New Years Day for their fixed menu. It was absolutely wonderful and quite reasonably priced. In addition, the sommelier made a great wine recommendation, again quite reasonable (a 2014 Faugeres). In doing some research afterwards, I discovered that the chef, Manuel Martinez, had been named "Un Des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France", which is apparently a personal achievement award given to the chef himself (I'd never heard of it before). We had none of the service-related issues mentioned in several other reviews, and the staff that attended us was so gracious that it's difficult to imagine them acting that way. As I mentioned to my wife afterwards, if this is what a Michelin one-star meal is like, with respect to a two or three star I confess "Domine, non sum dignus." A very satisfying finale to our trip.

The service was fantastic the wine was amazing the staff was friendly, even the chef came out several times to greet and converse with the guests. But the food was WOW and yes it deserves the capital letters. The potato salad, the lobster foie gras dumpling, the sea bass (best one I have had to date) the lamb and so much more. All the dishes were just WOW! If you can get reservations do yourself a favor and go. Mercy to the whole team for a amazing night!!!

Wow! Amazing food! 9 course tasting menu, each plate was fabulous especially the sea bass that was prepared in a way I've never seen before. It melted in your mouth like butter! Aside from the food, the restaurant is very small and cozy. The wait staff was so attentive and the sommelier chose the perfect wine for us and was very pleasant and accommodating. Not to mention, the chef came out to say hello which I always love and think it adds a nice touch to the experience. I highly highly recommend!

The first time I dined there (2014) we shared duck and we had like five different versions of small plates with duck. It was amazing. The second time I dined there (2018) we ordered the tasting menu which was basically anything that the chef sent us. I liked most of the small dishes except for the veal or venison (can't remember but it was red meat) which was raw (I know some will say that this is high end taste but I like my meat to be medium well at least). I would go again but stick to the duck order we had the first time. Also chef Martinez is very friendly and the restaurant has amazing service staff
Be the first to ReplyThis place was an absolute gem on every level.
The location, the courses, the attention to detail among the staff. We will definitely dine here again for a special occasion!
Be the first to ReplyWe just had dinner here this evening.
The food was incredible. The service was outstanding. We had the Signature Menu so we could have the lobster ravioli I have read so much about. They respected our wine selection... a delightful Sancerre. Dinner began with a special offering of 3 delightful cheese based hors d'oeuvres and and additional starter, a light quenelle. Followed by the lobster (with foie gras) ravioli which was better than the reviews. We selected the duck plat with vegetables and a lovely citrusy sauce. I am not generally a duck fan...but I am now! Then followed the "rest" of the duck dish a delicious offering with duck and figs. Next to arrive was was the cheese course which was offered with a very nice Sauternes. Dessert was the magnificent Mille-feuille which was incredibly flaky with divine vanilla cream. We passed on coffee but they still delivered a small plate of petit fours including a marvelous petite cream puff. If I am ever I. Paris again we will be back. The food and experience was worth every euro and not the amount I had budgeted for. Merci Relais Louis XIII for a wonderful meal!
Be the first to ReplyAn expensive meal, but absolutely worth every euro.
The food quality is out of the roof - the textures are insane, the dishes themselves are incredibly creative, and the flavors are phenomenal. There was a carrot soup for the first course when I went, and while the name made the dish sound underwhelming, the flavor blew our minds. It was single-handledly, without a doubt, the best soup I'd ever had. The rest of the entrees were amazingly delicious as well. With the 6 course meal, all of the entrees are slightly small, but combined with the little snacks and appetizers they give you inbetween, the experience is very filling. The only negative was that we (me and 3 other friends, all college students) had to purchase a wine that was practically pressured onto us, but with the atmosphere of the restaurant it was something we should have expected. Were I ever to go to Paris again and have something to celebrate, I would definitely revisit. Relais Louis was an amazing culinary experience!

My girlfriend and I had dinner here and had a very nice time. Service was good and the food was excellent.

Really mixed feelings here, and this is a Michelin-starred restaurant so that complicated it a bit for me.Let's start with the good news:The food is outstanding. From the amuses-bouches to start to the pates-a-chous served at the end, the food delivers. The chef even came out when we arrived to welcome us, despite it just being a regular Thursday service. The service timing and plate delivery is superb, and the staff can be all smiles.Bad news:We were made to feel guilty that our party had mixed desires. Some of us wanted a single a la carte dish, as they could not stay very long, while some of us wanted a different tasting menu (the very reasonably priced five course "surprise" lunch service, in which you just get whatever the chef sends). While it's understandable to have a general policy that the entire party will be on courses or a la carte, it's not nice to be rude about it or make us feel like complete imbeciles for daring to think we could eat what we want, as opposed to being told what we can and cannot order at lunch :-)The Asian lady who waited on us made us feel like trash, despite the fact that as a party of 7, we were their single largest lunch group of the day, and not a single one of us had been there before: chance to impress. The problem with established places like this is they don't care about your opinion, they care about driving revenue, and to have such dissonance between front of house service - in particular the head waitress, as the other waitstaff were great, and the maitre de restaurant was excellent - and back of house care and craftsmanship was jarring.I'll very likely be back, because the food is good enough, and because I want to give it a second chance. If the FOH service doesn't match the food the second time however, I won't be back.

I recently celebrated my one year anniversary of moving to Paris and wanted something unique to commemorate that. Making an online reservation was simple and you receive an SMS the day before to confirm the reservation. We ordered champagne and were brought 4 little cheese stuffed entrees (appetizers in English) which were just perfect and set the tone for the evening. The lobster ravioli melted in my mouth and I could easily have made a meal of those. I ordered the steak and requested it be done medium rare as steaks here usually are too rare for me. Some places will not accommodate that, however, it was no problem and it was done to perfection. The sommelier suggested an appropriate red wine which was perfect. Choices by the glass are limited and I cannot drink a bottle by myself. The bread basket was never empty and it was I who consumed it continuously along with the fabulously salted Normandy butter on the table. A nice melange of vegetables accompanied my steak. Finally, the piece de resistance was the millefeuille, which was huge as well as delicious. Also interestingly one can order decaf coffee. You also get an additional dessert, more like petit fours, but not exactly. All in all a wonderful meal, and considering the quality of the food one would expect to pay more as this is a Michelin star restaurant. Both food and service worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyVery bad service, push you to order drinks without menu.
When you order the set meal, they will try to revert to the expensive one. Very bad Asia lady waitress, shame on all of you!! Go to the hell!!
