Perfect!
Absolutely loved our visit where both the food and service were exceptional.
We visited on a Saturday evening and experienced the long tasting menu.
Every course was so beautifully presented and tasted amazing. My options had been slightly adjusted as I do not eat meat but were all stunning. Luckily there was lots of fish dishes on the menu on the evening that we visited, so both our dishes were fairly similar bar minor adjustments.
We would definitely recommend a visit as its a total treat.
Fantastic!
We went for a Christmas Eve lunch, having cancelled our Christmas week in Oxford. And it was fantastic.
Every single course was excellent. Great service and wine list.
Plenty of distance between tables. It felt a very safe dining experience.
A Superb Experience
Restaurant Folium is situated close to St Paul’s Square and is a short walk away from St Paul’s tram stop.
I was staying at the nearby Hampton by Hilton hotel in the Jewellery Quarter and was able to get a table on a Saturday evening at 7.30 online.
I don’t think I would have been to book so easily had it not been for pandemic cancellations and I was delighted to dine in such a great restaurant.
I had the long tasting menu at £99 with wine pairing for an extra £65.
There were three snack type dishes to start. Duck liver with burnt onion, smoked cod roe with Mayan gold and mock oyster.
All were great especially the duck liver.
There were five starter/main courses. Warm savoury custard with pheasant dashi and Wiltshire truffle. Kelp cured mackerel with raw vinegar and English yuzu. Exmoor caviar with Rickstaddle Farm broccoli. Cornish turbot cooked in beef fat with Arbroath smokies. Woolley Park guinea fowl with cep aioli and New Zealand spinach.
Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented. I was delighted to discover the existence of sturgeon in Devon and loved the caviar and the turbot dish was outstanding too.
I opted for the additional cheese dish for £12.50 which comprised a nice selection of British cheese including goat’s cheese, blue and smoked cheese. I had a nice glass of red Rioja to accompany the cheese.
For dessert, there was horseradish ice cream with sorrel and cucumber sauce and toasted hay ice cream with caramel and rye.
These combinations worked well, and to finish, there were a trio of petits fours.
Chocolate tart with lavender, whisky and peat butterfly bun and sunflower and miso macaron.
Again, each of these were sumptuous.
The wine pairings were great and of top quality.
A dry white from Devon, a German Riesling, an Austrian Gruner Veltliner, Australian Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley, Pinot Noir from Alsace, Japanese Sake and a lovely Madeira with the desserts, as well as the additional Rioja with the cheese.
The dishes and wines were painstakingly described by the knowledgeable and helpful staff.
It was a truly wonderful experience. Not cheap at north of £200 for one including service but a lovely treat for a one off occasion.
Still wonderful service, ambience and exceptional food
We left Birmingham after many years and it had been our intention to have our last meal at Folium but Covid19 destroyed that dream. However 18 months later, staying for a weekend in Birmingham, our first action was to book into Folium for dinner. It was no disappointment, The quality throughout was perfection. The dishes are designed by an artist; their composition, flavours and appearance all matter, even to having individually made pottery dishes to complement the food. The service was impeccable and very personable. A wonderful pre-Christmas experience. This restaurant should be included in the list of Birmingham’s Michelin Star restaurants.

The Pure simple theatre show here is memorable . We took out time and the show rolled on at our pace . Much to savour and wines to debate about . A slice of turbot just set with dedicated amount of heat from an experienced kitchen hand is still memorable as was the Arbroath Smokey flavour.
The little canapés … everything was praised. I’d write a book on the meal we enjoyed here, but I give a nod, this food is in a bracket above the normal .
Beautiful food - fantastic service
Every attentive staff - great food. Highly recommended taster menu. Seasonal and well sourced ingredients.

This is by far one of the most exceptional & unique tasting menus in Birmingham. Each dish is a piece of art and has been thought through in depth. The produce is quite clearly of high standard. The staff are friendly , very knowledgable and super efficient without being intrusive. The restaurant is warm and welcoming with an almost homely feel . I will definitely be returning and will certainly be recommending. I was so busy throughly enjoying the menu I only had chance to take one photo!

We have the long tasting menu. Really enjoyed the food and the additional cheese course. Prior to the meal I had contacted the restaurant about the wine list and were obliging to adapt the wine menu. The wine I had- Chablis was excellent.
The standout dishes we agreed on were the turbot and guinea fowl, but it was hard to choose as we enjoyed all the dishes.
Small intimate dining room and good service definitely would come again.
A diamond 💎 in the jewellery quarter!
We visited Folium for the first time for a Saturday lunch. Great attention to detail has been paid to all aspects of the restaurant, it really is a delight. Fantastic, attentive, friendly service. The food was faultless, a beautifully balanced menu with each course art on a plate!! Can’t wait to return!
