The waiting staff were lovely. The food was terrible! We are used to eating Indian food in India, in the UK, as well as in Madrid. When the chutneys that accompany poppadoms are no more than fruit jams, you do begin to worry. When we asked for a spicy chutney, we were brought a sriracha sauce in a dish - definitely not the taste of India! For my main course, I ordered palak paneer. My husband and mother both ordered butter chicken. Indian food is all about the depth of flavour, from the cooking of the spices. There was no depth whatsoever in these dishes. My paneer dish had a load of chilli (not fresh) added to it, as I had asked it to be spicy. I had to send it back. I eat hot food, but not hot food without any spice. It was wholly unpalatable. I was given a coconut vegetable dish instead, which was just al dente veg in a sauce made of coconut milk and again no spices. It was the most uninspiring dish ever! My husband's butter chicken was like a de-boned barbecued chicken drumstick in a tasteless red sauce! A far cry from how it is eaten in New Delhi. To sum up, this is no fine dining emporium, but neither is it a place to try Indian food - you can do better in the cheap restaurants in Lavapiés, and if you want authentic, refined and tasty Indian food, go to Tandori Station, but at all costs avoid Benares!
