Abysmal. The service, not the food. The food was adequate for a restaurant that touts a “2-star” chef, but the service was closer to McDonalds than fine dining. If I have any issue with the food, it was that it was overpriced. They advertise that their chef has two Michelin stars (at a different restaurant), but not here. i have to assume that the 2 star Michelin restraint has a higher standard of service. As we were being seated. I noted that the tables are a bit too close together for an expensive restaurant. And expensive it is. We were seated immediately and were early diners because an 8:30PM reservation is early in Madrid. Spaniards tend to eat dinner late...later than us. The restaurant quickly filled up after that, which told me that the diners were mostly from the US and not from Spain or especially not Madrid. From the time we were seated, we felt rushed. A few of us wanted sparkling water and a few of us wanted still. The only problem was that we had to ask each time we wanted or needed our glassed filled. Not looking at diners. After a few minutes the server came by with an amuse bouche which was melon soup and an interesting canapé with (I think) cod. After that it was downhill. The table waiter came and wanted our entire order and dishes started coming out at once. My expectation is that we would have a relaxed dining experience. It did not start that way. I got up and spoke sternly to the waiter about the order and timing of the service adn after that we were mostly ignored...including providing bread and olive oil to the table. We each got a 6 dollar bread charge and we each got two slices of bread, but nowhere near enough olive oil. We constantly had to ask for more and it was reluctantly poured...I truly don't get that. The oilive oil was good but not great. And we ere in Spain, where the olive oil should be as good as Italy. After I complained (and I so hate to do that) the service was more appropriate to a restaurant that's looking for it's first star. If won't get it at this pace. The food itself wasn't up to any Michelin stars. It was good for sure, but just not up to a chef who claims to be terrific. But the food was the only reason I gave this restaurant 2 stars. When a restaurant charges the kind of prices it did for this meal, it should present absolutely wonderful and imaginative food. It was neither, but it was good. My recommendation would be to spend your monsy elsewhere if you want real tableside service. Spend your money elsewhere if you want really terrific food. I've spent far more on a meal like this and have been extremely satisfied. Not here.
