How much do you like olive oil? Candidly, I'm not sure how
How much do you like olive oil? Candidly, I'm not sure how the judges granted All'Oro it's star - both my wife and I left both disappointed and disheartened. A Michelin star restaurant is supposed to be an experience to remember - a culinary tour de force. A meal at most Michelin star restaurants is an impeccable experience of creativity, flavor, and service - something that you relay to your friends such that you elicit jealousy from them. It is an experience so special that it justifies the steep price tag. As I write this review, I desperately struggle to recall the high points of the evening aside from my wife's company. All'Oro is al fresco dining. I certainly cannot blame the staff for the fact that we started dinner at 7:45 PM in 96 degree heat, but the lack of any sort of fans or other mechanisms to make the guests even a bit more comfortable was disturbing. I wish I had come in a bathing suit so they could have periodically doused me with cool water. The service - initially- was exactly what you would expect. Attentive- perhaps even a touch overbearing. I kept thinking of John Turturro in Mr. Deeds popping up. I have eaten at many renowned Michelin Star restaurants and I know what to expect. I have also worked professionally in a few restaurants - I am no stranger to high-end cuisine or service. We both decided on the 140 Eu "At the Origin" tasting menu. As a 6'2" 245lb man, I still found myself struggling to keep up with the amount of food presented. Almost a game or challenge of sorts, we were bombarded with dish, after dish, after dish, of small bites, spherifications, miniature this, tiny that. It was initially quite beautiful and "playful," but we quickly grew weary. It was too much - and frankly overwhelming. And then we started to realize there was a hidden theme, a common thread to our meal; there was one ring to rule them all and it was coated in extra virgin olive oil. Dish after dish continued to leave my palette coated with the pervasive fruitiness of fine olive oil. I love olive oil. But with any barrage of fat, there needs to be some acid, and some texture to cut things here and there. A change of pace, a breath of relief. Dish after bite after dish left me with little more than another smooth texture that could be easily consumed by a patron with few or no teeth. Flavors were sometimes intense- perhaps too intense. The cod in my tiramisu was fishy and amplified by notes of olive oil that reminded me of canned mackerel. Oily, foamy, creamy fishy bites. Carbonara was somewhat of a shining star until the barrage of squid ink and - yes, olive oil, on the bottom of the plate again coated my palette to the point of wanting to suck on a lemon. I was so hoping for some textural nuances to appear but they never really did. Yes, we enjoyed crisp spheres of tomato water at one point, but it wasn't enough. Creamy, then oily, then cheesy, then oily, then foamy ... fat on top of fat on top of fat. Can I have some more olive oil please? The service. I would love to say it was great, but it simply wasn't what it should be. The staff were mostly very young and seemed to lack experience and finesse. We were feeling very rushed and specifically had to ask several times for them to slow down so we could take a breath. The young lady at the table next to us was "sprayed" by a poorly opened bottle of prosecco or champagne. Although she took it with a smile, we knew they were disappointed and could overhear much of their conversation. Like us, they found much of the food more challenging than tantalizing. You should never overhear comments like "this isn't so bad," or "does this taste fishy to you?" at a Michelin Star restaurant. The highlight of the evening was sadly neither the food, nor the service but a bottle of 2018 D'Apri Brut. It was nothing short of spectacular and worth every penny - and it paired very well with olive oil. At the end of our night I smiled at my wife and wiped the sweat from my brow for the 26th time. I was excited to go to the bathroom because it was air conditioned. I paid the 500 Euro check and thought to myself, was this worth it? The answer was a resounding and regretful - no. There were so many mistakes, avoidable mistakes that it was difficult not to shake my head in disappointment. I don't need to be subjected to spherifications and edible plastic bags just for the sake of doing them, especially when they don't taste particularly spectacular. The amount of time an effort taken to make a lemon crumble and insert it in an edible bag is impressive, but I would have enjoyed a well made cookie even more. I choked down the last of some Benedictine they brought me (they did not have Grand Marnier ) and luckily that helped wash some of the lingering cod and olive oil flavors from my mouth. On my way home I stopped for an espresso and a Grand Marnier.

This one was in between a 4 and a 5 star review but what was 5 star was the service and the chefs welcome assortment. We were with a couple that wanted nice wine but at a lower price point than a restaurant at this level usually has to offer. The wine sommelier was very patient and gracious asking all four of us what type of wines we usually like and taking time to find the best options at their lower price point which was much appreciated. The chefs assortment of appetizers as the welcome was a full course in itself. It was playful and fun while still feeling upscale. We all enjoyed ourselves. The pasta truffle dish was amazing. The rest of the dishes we had were good - but probably what had me leaning towards the 4 star side of things. Then, the chef brought out multiple desserts in a playful set up similar to the chefs welcome which was an unexpected treat. Overall, a wonderful meal.

We were tired of tasting menus so we ordered a la carte, likely more than the average patron, which ended up being a substantial amount of very rich food. Food was amazing, service was great. This restaurant rejects formalities in favor of having fun and pushing the boundaries. Feels more like a trendy supper club than a stuffy white tablecloth restaurant. Probably not what you came to Rome in search of, but easy to see that this Michelin Star was hard earned.
Be the first to ReplyWe had hoped for the best but the food and service were off.
First the food - The highlight was the linguine with cuttlefish. It was very good. Other dishes were good but some dishes definitely did not taste good. One of the desserts included watermelon pieces and they were either rotten or intentionally meant to taste like cough syrup. It's nice to see other reviews that speak positively of service. Unfortunately, the service was rather cold for us. They didn't ask how the food tasted or how we liked the food until the meal was almost over. We did not feel welcome or comfortable.

Having eaten at other Michelin star restaurants I was excited to try All'Oro, sadly this was not up to par. The staff was AMAZING very friendly, eager to answer questions and provide suggestions, can't complain. Overall, the food was good, but the whole tasting menu was very poorly balanced which felt very heavy and with some dishes that felt just unnecessary. I really loved the potato tiramisu and the carbonara, which was not only really rich in flavor but a very different take on it. Presentation was really nice and different and that I really enjoyed, but would not consider this a true Michelin Star restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyI went to All'Oro by myself as I was on a solo trip to Rome.
Every moment inside was delightful! The decor is elegant. The service was excellent. I never had an empty plate in front of me for long and never waited long for my next course. The food was very well explained and I loved the stories that came along with each course. Really well thought out and creative. The food was so interesting, as was the plating. I was kind of glad I was by myself because I could really focus all my attention on the food and tasting what the chef was trying to convey.
Be the first to ReplyEasily the word meal ever.
From the bullying to order items we didn't want to the salty fishy weird taste and consistency of almost all the "food". Save yourself.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent ambiance and service.
Exactly what one would expect of a Michelin star restaurant. The food was also very exciting spanning a wide range of textures, tastes, and artistic styles in its presentation. There are multiple tasting menu options, which is great. I docked them 1 star because the wine is much too expensive for the quality. For example, a gattinara costs 250 euro when it's real value is around 50 at best. Other similar examples abound.
Be the first to ReplyHaving eaten at other Michelin star restaurants I was
Having eaten at other Michelin star restaurants I was excited to try this one. Honestly I have no idea how this place ever got a Michelin star! The food was so awful we were laughing at the end of the meal about how every bad it was. The amuse-bouche was presented in an entertaining way, however each of them lacked flavor, had odd textures, and were down right bad. They set the scene for a sub-par meal. The waiter told us they received their Michelin star for the duck ravioli appetizer, so we started with that dish. The presentation was nice, but all I could taste was salt. No trace of duck flavor. The filling and pasta was an odd texture which was off putting. This is an unusual reactions for me, as I don't normally react to texture, but as there was no flavor other than salt it stood out. My next course was the lamb. I inquired if the lamb was served medium rare, as I don't like it over cooked. The rude waiter scoffed that of course the lamb is served medium rare and if a restaurant serves it any other way I should find another restaurant. Well I guess I need to find another restaurant, as the lamb was barely pink - totally over cooked. The flavor was good, but the lamb was over cooked. Ordered the cheese plate for desert, as I love all sorts of cheeses... but not these. How can a restaurant mess up a cheese plate - there is no cooking involved! But they did!!! Either the cheese had no flavor at all or was very salty. The prior night we ate at a wonderful little cafe, where I had anti pasta for 12 euro as my first course. It was piled with all sorts of lovely cheeses and meats, and I loved each one. This 30 euro cheese plate only had 3 different cheeses and just a tiny bit of each, plus a few slices of fruit. All three cheese were awful, so we didn't even finish the meager amount on the plate - par for the course at this place. My friends has similar experiences with the dishes they ordered. We had planed to order the tasting menu, but once we arrived we learned that everyone at the table had to select the same dishes. Given our different likes and food allergies, this was not possible, so we ordered the courses we wanted. The others at my table also disliked their selections. This was by far the worst Michelin star restaurant I have ever encountered, it was dreadful. We are extremely bewildered as to how this restaurant has a star. It was not even close to the lovely cafes we ate at the rest of our time in Rome, and 4 times the cost. Save your money, eat at the street side cafes and have yourself a wonderful meal instead of the trash served here. In fact, after 3 uneatable courses at All'Oro we were hungry, so we went to a cafe to have some good food.

Known for Michelin star but what a disappointment ! The appetizers they sent our way were mediocre and even more disappointing were the dinner we selected ! Everything either tasted too salty like the fried quail or the duck ravioli ! Desserts were very nicely plated but the nothing was amazing.Presentation of the food was definitely good but it's the taste that truly matters and that was way below average unfortunately! A very disappointing visit nonetheless !
Be the first to ReplySearching for finer dining while traveling through Rome,
Searching for finer dining while traveling through Rome, our group knew we wanted to try a Michelin star restaurant in one of the food capitals of the world. We made reservations for 5 and a toddler. Our party opted for the prefix menu that contained an array of well crafted and presented bites! The chef presented the food in a unique manner, conceptualizing childhood fun into an edible experience. The wine pairing also perfectly complimented the menu. I can't emphasize how visually stunning the spread was. I would 100% recommend this restaurant (book well in advanced).
Be the first to ReplyIf you're looking for an expensive but creative meal,
If you're looking for an expensive but creative meal, definitely come here. Making reservations was simple, you can do it online. We decided to do the tasting menu. I will say, the creativity is here! Really impressed with the way the chef came up with this menu. Check out my pictures, every course is photographed. Some flavors were really great, some were just not for my palette. This is a very expensive meal. I understand that a lot of thought goes into the menu, however,a lot of the menu is bite size. Personally, I feel like it's overpriced. Even if it is a Michelin restaurant, bite size food really shouldn't be costing so much. Service is good. The servers were really quick on bringing out the next course and explaining what we were going to eat. Aside from the cost, the only other complaint I really have is with outdoor seating - there are a lot of mosquitos! Conveniently, this restaurant had bug spray for their customers. However, my thought is, why don't you get plants that will keep mosquitos away? The entire outdoor is covered in plants and greenery. Now I know, you can't get rid of mosquitos entirely but any attempt would've been great instead of constantly having to use their provided bug spray. Overall, it was an okay experience. Would I recommend this place? To be honest, I don't think so.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful fun restaurant.
The amuse bouche dishes are plentiful. They are beautiful, creative and tasty. Every dish was an event. The pasta dishes, second courses, all good. Service was excellent too. Deserts were a success too. This is a great restaurant for a special occasion, or just a fun evening. The atmosphere is modern and tables are nicely separated.
Be the first to ReplyWhen in Rome.
Dining at this Michelin star restaurant was something I have been looking forward to throughout my entire Europe travel tour. When first approaching All'Oro, the head chef Ricardo himself let us through the gates as we arrived right at opening time. The service was mind blowing. From the beginning we felt as if all the attention was directed toward us, almost a little too much, where we were asked questions from the chef himself, we're seated in a beautifully decadent basement dining area where the dark contrasted heavily with the pop of the plates we were given. The Starting gift 5/5My party and I were mind-blown upon the arrival of 7 mini plates, each with the perfect amount of portion for a flavorful bite or two with my party of 3. The first thing that stood out to me immediately was the plating. I have never experienced such creative and contemporary styles of presentation at a restaurant. There was a tooth filled with pasta to symbolize how "Al dente" (spin with "dental" ) the pasta was. Another example is the white porcelain chicken that contained a delicious Lilly pop chicken bone. Although some of these dishes were more memorable than others, each provided a unique burst of flavor, nearly impossible to process coming from such a small portion. My favorite was the Sicily inspired eggplant cannoli.Appetizer 5/5Tiramisu of potatoes. This was my favorite plate of the evening. Flawless presentation as a cappuccino, even complete with chocolate dust upon it. But when you dig in, you find a buttery layering of creamy potatoes, pork, and melt in your mouth cod. Mind blowing and done to perfection. Pasta 4/5Ravolini stuffed pasta with duck ragout. Honestly didn't absolutely love this plate, the duck did not stand out, the red wine reduction and pasta itself stole the show, very well cooked and flavorful. Still great. Really liked the cappelletti "dry booth" the other members of my party got with truffles.Meat 3/5Rocher of Oxtail. Perfectly well done meat within a ball beautifully plated. I am a little bias against red meat but thought it tasted good, which is definitely a sign. Similar taste to Lamb. Dessert 5/5Insane must try sponge cake tiramisu, surrounded by a wall of marzipan. Not too sweet and the perfect texture. Best tiramisu I personally have had. One of my girlfriends favorite desserts so I have been an tiramisu aficionado as of late.Overall, cannot complain about much. The service is what made this a clear 5/5 for me. The interactions I was able to have with chef Riccardo di Giacinto were very telling of the individualized experience we received here. The bathroom also has a slow sliding door which is an insane must see. Great first Michelin experience.
Be the first to ReplyOur experience here was not great.
We ordered the 9-course tasting menu. It all started fine, the small appetizers were nice and had some surprising tastes. However, after the appetizers we got into a rapid fire of courses, 45 minutes after finishing the appetizers we were already at the 5th course. At the 6th course I tried to ask if the tempo could be brought down, as we couldn't even remember what the last course was, due to the speed at which the food was served. When asked the question, the waiter seemed to panic to the kitchen, but it was already too late, the 7th course was served within 3 minutes of us finishing the 6th course. After this, the staff waited almost half an hour until the pre-dessert was served, by just placing the plates on another table. All in all, our whole evening at All'Oro was just 2,5 hours from beginning to end.The service was also not very nice for a michelin star restaurant, our glasses were filled with water only during the first 2 courses. Furthermore, after the first course the staff never asked if we were satisfied with the experience. When we got the petit fours after dessert, I had to ask if i could order an espresso, but the staff didn't even bother to ask my girlfriend if she would have liked some coffee too. Conclusion: wouldn't recommend this restaurant. The food was just okay, could have used some more surprising elements. The service was definitely not up to par for a michelin star restaurant.

I have recently had an extremely poor experience at Ristorante All'Oro in Rome. I wanted to share my experience so you can determine if you would like to continue to patronize their restaurant. I have dined at this restaurant before.Recently, my spouse and I were in Rome. We had a reservation atRistorante All'Oro. Unfortunately, my spouse became ill with food poisoning and we were unable to attend our reservation. We notified the restaurant by e-mail that we must cancel our reservation about 26 hours ahead of the scheduled meal. The restaurant did not respond, so we assumed all was fine.Upon arriving home, we found the restaurant charged our credit card $300 Euro for missing the reservation. They report that all reservations must be cancelled 48 hours ahead. If they had responded to our cancellation email, we could have easily asked friends to take our seats at the table to avoid the charge. Even after explaining situation of illness, reminding that we contacted more than a day ahead, and discussing lack of communication of their cancellation policy the restaurant was unwilling to refund the fee or even a portion of the fee. I suggested 50% since we did give a 24+ hour notice.Next time you are in Rome, I ask that you consider dining elsewhere. There are many fantastic restaurants in Rome who care about their clients and who hold customer service at a higher standard instead of focusing on making additional Euro from customers who cancel a reservation resulting from a situation beyond their control.I will certainly not return.
Be the first to ReplyI stayed in the hotel which I highly recommend BTW.
We got a great breakfast and it was my last day in Rome so I was really looking forward to eating "at home" if you willThe one waitress at the restaurant was so sweet And nice. However our waiter....He offered me a coffee, I said a macchiato and I asked for caramel. He scoffed and me and said "this isn't Starbucks". 1. I think I am well aware of my surroundings I know where I am2. Just say sorry we don't offer that.I've dined at many Michelin star restaurants around Europe and I'm not sure if it's because i look young but I just felt a line was crossed and I'd noticed the waiters with older guests and they were far more professional with them. The breakfast was delicious, too bad it was lackluster hospitality that ruined my meal.
Be the first to ReplyWent here with my wife on our last night of vacation.
The atmosphere was elegant but not in a stuffy way. To keep this short and sweet, the food was delicious, the presentation was phenomenal and the waiters were very nice, explaining what each dish was and answering our questions. To sum it up, my wife commented "this place is awesome and likely the best meal I've ever had." Enough said.

We had an unforgettable meal here! The service was incredible and all of the surprise tasting courses were such treat! Would highly recommend this for a special occasion while in Roma!
Be the first to ReplyWow, how to describe our experience at All 'Oro.
We were staying at the hotel and made a reservation for 7:30pm. When we got there the place was empty. The pre dinner chef selections were served before the waiter came to take our drink order. Most of the "appetizers" were trying too hard, not impressed by the flavor or presentation. We placed our order and on a positive note, they were able to accommodate for my request of gluten free. Rest of the meal was mediocre, but the deconstructed carbonara stood out (although really would have been better with pasta aka "constructed") and the white fish was cooked well. The wait staff were overall clumsy and knocked the bread sticks off the table, ran into tables/doors and dropped silverware when clearing the table. The chef was coming out to every table for a chat when they were enjoying dessert, but never came to our table. For $300 euro it's hard to justify a recommendation for this place. Also hard to believe this place has a Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyI was very excited to dine here.
It was a little stuffy at first but once the staff realized we weren't snobs everyone seemed to relax. The food was amazing and very inventive. I was a little put off by the cocky sommelier when he asked if I was sure of my selection of wine... He was also filled with misinformation unfortunately. I would have expected a more educated sommelier for this type of experienceBut you can't deny the food! All in all it was an amazing room, food was impressive, staff was educated & friendly. I just think the sommelier needs a little more time.
Be the first to ReplyRicardo Di Giacinto has an exciting vision.
We discovered him Madeiterraneo at the gorgeous department store Rinascente. Go to both! He is sure to see a second Michelin Star. The food was inventive. The presentation was unique and at times filled with humor...yes humor. The service was attentive without being haughty. There was an attention to detail including food allergies, wine suggestions that were reasonable and tremendous variety. It was worth every euro!
Be the first to ReplyPretentious, annoying ripoff.
Posing as a Michelin Star gastronomy jewel, it's actually a big joke. Surly, rude servers in black suits act like a cliche version of the snooty French waiter. The night we were there they wanted to get out as fast as they could and treated us like we were an annoyance. That wasn't as painful as the "gastronomic " food. Unrelated bits of stuff that was sometimes sweet, sometimes savory, often tasteless. After a while we just laughed because the whole thing felt ridiculous. We called it "Dada Dining." It was surreal and would be funny if it wasn't so ridiculously overpriced. Avoid at all costs.
