Ristorante Buca Mario Firenze Reviews from The Last Year
Touristy but tasty
Having read the previous reviews, both positive and negative, I have to say that some elements of both are true. Is this place a tourist trap? Well I’m not sure. It is almost 100% tourists, and it is fantastically over priced. However, and it’s significant, everything for tourists is over priced, and this restaurant does have a lovely vibrant atmosphere and delivers good food. Contrary to what others have said, we found the waiting staff to be lovely, as was everyone else we encountered. It wasn’t the best steak I’ve ever eaten but it was very nice. Of note, the wine list is NOT over priced and decent bottles can be had below €40. It’s very busy and has a fairly fast turnover but the liveliness really makes it an interesting place. Loud enough that you don’t have to whisper and that your conversation isn’t overheard, but at just the right level where you don’t need to raise your voice. Do the waiters talk about customers away from the table? Probably. But every waiter in every restaurant in the world does. If you’ve had good service, leave a tip. We tipped 12.5% and the waiter was kind enough to thank us, you don’t see that at most places in England or the USA, it’s taken for granted. It loses some marks for the outrageous line to get in, even with reservations and also for the seeming encouragement of people filming and taking pictures of everything. It’s free marketing but I cannot stand it. Also I’d say the prices are at the very very top of the realms of acceptable, but just. €360 including tip for three people, three courses plus wine. It’s very pricey, but a good bit of theatre and once only thing, so I don’t feel ripped off.
Wonderful Occasion Restaurant
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner here; we let them know in the reservation and when we arrived they gave us each a glass of complimentary prosecco. Service was friendly and the Florentine Steak was fantastic. It wonderfully paired with a Chianti the waiter recommended.
Waiters ruin your experience
Nowhere in the world the waiter forces in ur face u to pay tip - here you go this place the waiters do. In addition they go by calling your nationality in Italian as if we don’t understand when you don’t add more than 10% tip - I do not like the place & culture - food was ok and way over priced, tourist trap in full day light. Bad experience….wish owners stop the waiters behaving this in their own resturant. I cancelled my next day reservation straight away …. There is no room for such behaviour what waiters are doing to paying customers
Waiter staff will ruin your experience
No where in the world the waiter forces in ur face u to pay tip, this place the waiters do. In addition they go by calling your nationality behind your back in Italian as if we don’t understand when you don’t add more tip - they did this to my husband and he was very upset. Do not like the place & culture - food was ok and way over priced, tourist trap in full day light. Very bad experience….wish owners stop the waiters behaving this wild in their own resturant. My husband went back and cancelled next day reservation straight away ….then we went to the Florence central market where food and service is exceptiona. The waiters are harassing the paying customers by calling out nationality etc. - how is this acceptable in 21st century. I believe this tourist trap should not be allowed to continue displaying such low standards.
Huge steaks
What can I say. Best steak in the city. Lovely friendly staff in a superb location. Make sure you book it's busy and you can tell why!
I would rate this place a 3.
7, but I'm rounding up to 4 stars overall. I made reservations about a month in advance for a Tuesday night at 7pm which is when they opened, we arrived about 5 minutes early and there was a line that wrapped around the corner of the restaurant already. I recommend getting a reservation beforehand if you want to try. I found this place before our trip to Italy on Tiktok and it seemed to be many tourist's fave place in Florence to get steak. Many locals say you have to try the Florentine steak because it's super delicious. I had very high expectations due to this and I thought the restaurant itself was a bit over-hyped, granted, coming from the States and having had A5 wagyu in Japan, I am a bit spoiled when it comes to very great quality steaks. The plus is that this place has big portions for steaks. Their 1 person Florentine steak which was basically a T Bone, was close to 2 Inches thick and about 60 euros. My husband and I shared it along with papperdelle Bolognese (I think roughly 20 euros?) which they said is made with wild boar but I couldn't tell the difference. We also ordered an artichoke salad along with some fried vegetables, roughly 12-16 euros each. Both forgettable but we were in desperate need of veggies after days of just carbs. In Italy they charge you for either still or sparkling water and they also add a coverage charge that's typically 2-5 euros per person. At this restaurant, they charged 5 extra per person. Ambiance is nice with an old rustic Italian feel and the servers all wear these suits so it makes it feel a lot fancier. I also had a glass of chianti red wine, as well, very good however due to this restaurant being a bit overpriced, it was about 10 euros which is a couple dollars more than other places. The server was pretty nice and they were quick to serve us our food. If you're traveling to Florence, I think it's worth trying the Florentine steak and papperdelle here. For two people, we spent roughly 135 euros which isn't horrible but expect to spend more here than other restaurants in Florence.
Our best meal in Florence!
Truly a 5 star experience from start to finish. Amazing service, food, & atmosphere. Definitely recommend! Huge steaks and reasonably priced. Good value for the quality of food you are getting. Recommend making a reservation.
It is a good place with delicious food.
The service was ok, and the ambiance was very nice and old,
Yelp promoting me for a review, I thought I might have left
Yelp promoting me for a review, I thought I might have left on already. That said, my wife and I enjoyed our 7th anniversary dinner so much, I have no issue saying so again. Note: They have 2 seatings, so even with a ressie you will most likely have to queue up. See pics below. Once we got in everything was perfect, from our first chat to the host to paying the bill as we left. I had communicated when making the reservation that we were celebrating our 7th. When we got there it was like the whole restaurant knew it. We got a great table with plenty of room and a glass of Champagne, gratis, upon taking our seat. We had 3 courses, Pasta special, Florentine Steak and a Sea Bass, it was all amazing. We drank wine, Martinis and Lemoncello, and ate an amazing assortment of desserts. This is a special place and everyone who comes by respects that. Reservations are a must and plan to spend for the quality you will receive.
Is it possible that our group of 6 was unlucky enough that
Is it possible that our group of 6 was unlucky enough that Buca Mario ran out of that fabulous Florentine steak that everyone in the reviews raves about -- and sourced some extras from the local low end "butcher"? We over-ordered -- and our server didn't find it necessary to advise us otherwise. Perhaps our doing so emboldened him to send TWO of the toughest steaks any of us had ever had to our table. No one wanted to embarass our friend who had recommended Buca Mario -- so no one spoke out during the dinner. On our way out I expressed our disapleasure discreetly to the server and he referred me to management -- resulting in two managers shrugging their shoulders -- no disappointment or surprise visible in their expression. Our appetizers were delicious. The sides also good as were the desserts. Sorry I can't remember what we ordered because the Classic Florentine Steak was such a disappointment that's really all I can remember. And that is why we went there -- prepared to pay a premium for what we were told by friends was the best steak in Florence. In hindsight, perhaps we should have sent the steaks back...wish we had. They obviously didn't think much of us to have risked their reputation and served those steaks. Sending it back could not have lowered their regard for us. In this age of online reviews, I thought the days of treating tourists differently because they were unlikely to return were long gone. Sadly, I was mistaken.

We were super excited to try this place, after hearing many great things. We found out that this establishment has been run by the same family since the 1800s! We had a reservation for a group of 4 and were seated right away. The staff was all very friendly, and the service was superb. - Bruschetta (4.5/5): So fresh, delicious, all you could want and more. - Charcuterie (5/5): Good portion size to share. Comes with cured meats and cheeses. We asked for bread on the side. - Fresh pasta (5/5): Best pasta. The pasta in Italy is so amazing and yummy, especially here . They make everything so fresh and so flavorful. It is delicious; it needs a minimal amount of sauce. The meat was perfect too. - Lasagna (5/5): Some of the best lasagna in Italy. I love this place. - Florentine steak for 2 (4/5): The steak we ordered rare, and it was delicious. I had pretty high expectations after hearing great things about the steak. It was cooked well. The only thing, because it was so large, I feel like it wasn't seasoned as well with the huge pieces. But still yummy. - Potatoes, and mushrooms (4/5): These were tasty. We were so full at this point we didn't have much of them.

In Florence for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary and dined here our first night. Everyone on the staff was great and the food was delicious!
A five star fine dining experience all the way around.
With six in our party, we got to taste lots of things, and every one of them was delicious, complex in flavor, and cooked to perfection. Service is impeccable, and our waiter, Fabio, put on a beautiful performance. Seating at Buca Mario is comfortably spaced, but tables are congenially near one another. We saw most parties exchanging a kind word or an "ooh!" and a smile as a neighbor's meal arrived. The senior staff/possible owner came around at least twice to chat with guests and check on service, and the entire restaurant was filled with warmth and laughter by the end of the meal. This is an experience not to be missed...and the food is exceptional, as well.

This was my first time eating here and I had a fantastic dining experience. This classic Florentine restaurant has been open since 1886. You enter through a narrow door and go downstairs. They have multiple dining rooms and all have an intimate ambience like you are in their house. The service was friendly and impeccable. The food was outstanding and I can't wait to visit again. I would highly recommend this place. Ciao

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
