Way Way Below expectations
Way, Way below my expectation. Really. I am still here waiting for my second choice main course (you were out of the duck and nobody told me). Service is just horrible, waiters totally forgot about me and they barely know where they are… I have just asked about the Wi-Fi password and they said they don’t have, wait wait she just came and she said now they have… she added, I am sorry… Pork came and it was just oK, too rich but service is a really issue here. Plenty of better places close by. Really.

An exceptional experience. The fried chicken, jambon and tuna are all most tries. The staff is attentive professional and the culinary experience is next level.
Be the first to ReplyBest seat in the house!
After a lot of research we chose Roisters for Sunday Brunch. We paid the $10 Rez fee cause we wanted guaranteed seats. And when we arrived at 1pm, not only was a table waiting for us, but there were open seats at the bar directly across from the hearth, we sat there and it made everything that much more special. We watched the staff meticulously prepare items from Avocado toast to Waffles with Oysters in between. All the food was fabulous. We shared several items like coal roasted sweet potatoes and a tomato/watermelon salad. Just top notch, the food the ambiance and the service. Highly recommended.

We dined on a Tuesday night. We were able to find on street parking about a block away so that was a plus. I was a little afraid of the loud music I've read about in previous reviews but the music level was not bad at all. Our party of 4 was able to converse without any issues. Standout cocktails were the blood orange margaritas, and the "Autumn/Pear in a Cup". Both were fantastic. For apps we did the short rib gnudi, the rillettes, and the pull apart brioche bread. All were fantastic. The rillettes came with truffled cauliflower and even my hubby who hates cauliflower loved it. The gnudi was a standout as well; very tender and flavorful. For dinner our table had the root beer spiced short ribs, the pork confit and the bass. All loved their dishes except for the bass. I thought it was a little dried out. We also had the carrots, the fried potato wedges and the mushrooms. Our table did not care for the mushrooms (too lemony?) but really enjoyed the carrots (if you love carrots) and the potato wedges dipped in the aioli. There were more than enough wedges for the table. For dessert, we had the butterscotch pudding. I would say that was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Almost like a salted caramel pudding. All in all a really nice experience.
Be the first to ReplyAn overpriced pub.
Being a part of Alenia group, we were super excited to sit at the bar and experience Roister in all of its glory. The experience started off great - outside of the hostess not addressing us because she was on her device. The chefs were engaging and the staff was fast to clean up after us. As the night progressed, the service dropped. We asked for drinks that never came, but the bill did without us asking for it. I tried to pay with cash - was told they are not a bank. The food was not Michelin-star quality. Nor was it worth the high prices that come with them. In fact, I can get practically the same pub-style food at my local pub. We expected way more with names like Alenia Group and Grant Achatz tied to the restaurant. If you're ok with dropping $300 on pub fair, have at it. If I were you, I'd save the cash and either go to the Alenia restaurant (where they do push the food) or spread your cash over a few pubs to experience different places in Chicago. We went to Giant Restaurant the following night. A far better experience and value exchange for your money.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Saturday night dinner with friends
A friend living in the city booked a table for a group of us visiting the city. Despite it being an early October eve, we sat outside and were kept warm with brilliant patio heaters. The food and cocktails were excellent, the music was great and staff were so helpful. Between three we ordered the tear bread and the cheese rillettes as a starter and then, for mains, the chicken, pork and beef along with the carrots and wedges. The wedges were so good but could have served six and the chicken was huge so we definitely over ordered. Oh well, it meant we had some great left overs the next day!! Would very much recommend.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t miss out. From the friendly welcoming to the excellent food.
We sat at the Chef’s Counter, giving us some welcomed visual stimulation. Would have been nicer to have some interaction with the kitchen staff, but it was still very nice. As for the food and the service, both were and are excellent. Great choice. The drinks, bread, Caesar Salad, fried chicken and dessert. All superb. The service was friendly and welcoming. Thank you Tucker. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThe best dinner - eat at the counter for a great experience!
What a delicious dinner! And a treat to sit at the counter to watch the food prepared. We started with the oysters and caesar salad. I especially loved the flavor/seasoning on the oysters. Oh, and the brioche - perfectly soft, with the right amount of butter, salt and herbs. He had the fried chicken for his main... which skateboard came with three total pieces of chicken! I had fish, which was lovely. We had two veggie dishes which way too much food for the two of us. The motels were good... I can't remember what the other veggie was. We shared the cheesecake with marmalade for dessert - such a great pairing. Great service, environment, etc. Definitely a must ...
Be the first to ReplyBest Fried Chicken on the Planet!
Food was out of this world! Rillette appetizer, fried chicken and roasted potatoes are must haves. Downside is the noise level and rushed service. Try and score seats at the counter to watch the magic happening in the kitchen.
Be the first to ReplyFell in love with Roister
I am soooo. glad I didn’t listen to some of the reviews about this place. Roister is absolutely amazing! I understand 100% why they have a Michelin star. Everything I ate was just mind-blowing. Their fried roister chicken was probably my favorite dish, followed by the glazed pork butt, and charred kale caesar salad! I had Malbec and an old fashioned, and those were also exceptionally good. Most of all I just truly appreciate the professionalism of the staff and that all staff members wore masks. I know masks are a controversial topic but I felt so comfortable knowing that the servers and folks handling my food were taking this extra precaution to keep others safe. I could really let my hair down and have fun. I simply loved it here! Oh and did I mention that they also plan great hip-hop music! I have already made another reservation this week!
Be the first to Replyperfect dining
I appreciated the warm welcome by everyone as we arrived, were seated by the hearth, and watched the festivities for hours. The soundtrack was exactly what I listen to at home, but I don't have the honor of so many talented chefs at home to bring me oysters on the half shell, perfectly cooked polenta graced by crisp-skinned salmon, and a golden beet salad, finished with singed cheesecake with crunchy orange slivers. Every bite was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyCharcoal grilled food is the GOAT!
What do you do when you can’t get a table at Alinea? Try another one of Alinea Group’s restaurants! We didn’t feel like we missed out. Roister offered hearth-prepped food with smoky flavors that just explode with every bite. We had poached mushroom and charred kale Caesar salads to start. Our entrees were grilled turbot and the signature fried chicken. Dessert was the charcoaled vanilla ice cream. They were all superb, but the star was the fried chicken. It was probably the best one I’ve had in my entire life - juicy, tasty and tender. Service was great and we just loved watching the kitchen at work. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyGood but not Michelin worthy
We are on a Saturday for brunch. Service was good and efficient. Food was good but not as exceptional as I had hoped. Cocktail menu was lackluster but beer and wine menu looked good (didn’t order as we were in town for a beer event). Chicken and waffle was good but nothing special. Perfumed salmon was the bigger star.
Overall would recommend but more gastro pub and less Michelin star worthy.
Heavy, loud music paired with heavy, salty food
What is going on with this place? Firstly, everyone is right to acknowledge the awful, loud music. It ruins any chance at a pleasant dining experience. I was meeting family here that I hadn’t seen in years, and I couldn’t hear them. What’s the point of this?
Secondly, the food was very average if not poor. Everything was so overly-salted that I found a lot of the plates inedible. I’ve been in the UK for a few years, so perhaps my palette has adjusted to less sodium, but I had eaten around Chicago prior to this night at Roister and didn’t experience the same “salt shock”.
All the food ordered, for the most part, was really heavy. Maybe this was intentional, heavy music and heavy food? At any rate, I didn’t get it, at all. I was so disappointed as I expected really immense things from an Alinea group restaurant!
What's all the fuss about the chicken?
This is a very, very loud restaurant so be prepared for that. I'm not sure why people rave about the chicken because it wasn't that great. There are other things on the menu worth trying so make sure to order many items to share with your table.
Be the first to ReplyRoister should be a no-go for anyone accustomed to fine dining. Quel Dissapointment.
One of the worst dining experiences ever. Food is average at best, noise level is over the top and horribly uncomfortable, service is marginal at best.
All I can say is there’s a manager who should not have a job front of house. Dishwasher is more his speed. He cannot interact politely with diners. We were never advised of the table time limit till the “manager” slithered over and dropped the check on our table. Before coffee and dessert.
Perhaps we might have made the time limit if the service was on point.
Roister does not even deserve a Michelin mention - for food, for service or for ambiance.
Food 6.5, Service 3, Ambiance 3, policies ZERO!
Check out my review on Yelp. The one with 1 star that should be zero. This restaurant seriously needs to get its act together. Your pretentiousness is intolerable. Please. Plenty of WAY better place in Chicago for a much better meal with much better service. Do yourself a favor diners…fine another place. Apparently the $986.00 I spent for dinner was not good enough to warrant
Basic decent service and good communication. Happy to dine here again…. When a new occupies the
Space.
Bad service ruins the experience
Similar to another review the service was poor. We received our main plates almost an hour after we received our appetizers. 10 minutes into receiving our main plates we were told we had to finish in 15 minutes because the table was committed to someone else. We explained to the server what happened and he said he would get back to us. He never returned the rest of the meal. Manager did come by and repeat the same information. She did tell us we were allowed to have dessert if we moved outside (they had no outside seating at the time). Totally ruined the experience.
Be the first to ReplyLots of Positives and Negatives
You enter into a space that is reminiscent of Northbrook, Illinois' Chipotle. No lie. A long line, overlooking the indoor seating, is a copy of that layout. Great food options, tasty meal, but service......not so good. More than 50 minutes between finishing our appetizers and finally receiving our entrees, which were in error, transpired. A few of our entrees arrived luke warm. I get it--they must've sat out, waiting to be delivered to our table. And the server got our entrees mixed up, which resulted in even more time being devoted to getting the correct ones. Ask for ice twice. Delivered to the adjacent table. Asked for clean plates (isn't that what the staff is supposed to handle at a restaurant of this caliber??!!), and again, the plates went to the adjacent table---who threw up their hands wondering why they received more plates (more than 12 plates for 3 diners at that table.....)
Server became nonexistent when he realized his errors. Some sort of manager showed up but still insisted we had ordered an entree that we had not. UGH. We even ordered dessert. Not great.
As one of our guests quipped, Roister either needs to add white table cloths and make the room more inviting (and ditch the tired 2000's super loud play list) or decrease the price point. This doesn't jive the way it is now.
As for an Alinea outpost---WHAT!?! Loud, amateur service, Chipotle-like environment at primo prices. No thank you. We probably won't come again.
