As "authentic" as one will find Stateside
Considered to be one of Los Angeles’ quintessential Restaurants since 2017 Rossoblu has managed to succeed despite a humble backstory, Chef Steve Samson’s childhood summers in Bologna combining with his love of Southern California in an industrial Dining Room with service that is casual yet thoroughly charming. Currently with a covered outdoor patio during mask mandates, vaccine-cards checked before being offered a table between large murals and a golden bar, Rossoblu immediately feels high end despite modest pricing that extends from Wine to Food including everything from handmade Pasta to Samson’s “Superfine Pizza.” An homage of sorts to Emilia-Romagna, the menu well-edited and prone to change, decisions do not come easy in terms of how to order, though Valbruna’s Eggplant proves worthy of its signature status as gently cooked slices dance amidst what might otherwise be a very competent Caprese. Lower in terms of volume than other LA eateries though music turns up as sun goes down, the Rossoblu Bread Basket is adequate albeit a bit pricey with Anchovy Butter outpacing the other two Condiments and slices better saved for scarpetta of Sauces such as Bechamel brightened by Citrus atop Baked Fazzoetti. Dedicating a section of the menu “en Brodo,” mixed Pork inside Tortellini better than most in Italy thanks to Broth that is clean and clear, Pizza here eats far better than from the Superfine window as crust forms a robust cornicione around bright Sauce, mixed Onions, Smoked Mozz, Mushrooms and Garlic. A mix of local and imported ingredients, “Olimpia’s Tagliatelle” standing out thanks to al dente ribbons and just enough Bolognese made from whole animals butchered downstairs plus “dry-aged Beef Fat,” be sure not to overlook thicker Maltagliati as a canvas to Pioppini Mushrooms, Saba and bitter Greens. Keeping Dessert simple, no fancy plating for the #gram, Rossoblu’s Apple Crostata falls short of others as a result of Apples too firm and room-temperature service while Olive Oil Cake with a sugared top is toothsome yet delicate and good on its own, but better dragged through creamy Ricotta.

Environment was nice and servi egreat but food very disappointing. We had heard it was great but we're let down. Best part was the salad but even that had a few ad leaves. We wiinot return.

Tasty, inventive dishes and wonderful service. I had dinner here with my niece while visiting her in LA. We shared the Swiss chard tartelette, roasted cauliflower and pasta with morels and English peas in their lovely outside patio. Everything was delicious!
Be the first to ReplyVery Nice Family Dinner
This is a beautiful restaurant with a two-tier layout. The main dining room/bar, up half a dozen steps from the outdoor patio, is a cavernous space with a huge awe-inspiring mural reaching to a hanger-height ceiling. Equally enormous is the piazza (using restaurant’s own parlance for the covered patio). Our table, in a corner of the piazza safely distant from neighboring guests, offered a good vantage of the bustling restaurant activities on a Saturday evening. It’s wonderful that our family (including a baby, a toddler and a dog) was able to enjoy al fresco fine dining at an acclaimed restaurant in such comfortable ambience. We loved the opportunity to taste the house-made pasta here. All of them were superbly authentic and flavorful, reminiscent of the ones we had in Italy. The stand out, and group favorite, was the umami Maltagliati with mushroom. The Brodo of cheese dumplings in beef chicken broth came in a surprisingly huge bowl. The playfully named Es Ca Role pizza was good, but not spectacular. Of the sides, the eggplant was tender and tasty. Ditto the fresh mixed baby lettuce salad. We expected a crudo when we ordered the Big Eye tuna special, an impulsive, curiosity-driven order, but it felt like a sashimi plated with some Italian blobs of sauce; a somewhat incongruous presentation. The gelatos, however, did not disappoint. Too bad the olive oil gelato was not available. Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience. The convenient valet parking was well worth $12 for it saved us from walking in the deserted DTLA Fashion District after dark.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Italian food and ambiance.
Wonderful Italian food. Especially loved the bread, marinated eggplant, pizza and the prosciutto di Parma. The wines were nice but not exquisite.
Be the first to ReplySuperb in Every Way
From the nice patio, to the great service, to the wonderful cocktails, the Killer Bread and the fabulous food, this is a place my wife and I will keep coming back to just to enjoy a wonderful meal.

Exceptional. This was a take-out meal: *The meal was terrific in every respect: quality of food, preparation, and presentation. *The packaging superior: Each or the 7 courses was individually delivered in a kind of Bento Box package, with a placemat that included the items on the menu, a key to reheating instructions, and wine pairing for the menu, as well as a list of featured farms. *The care provided was remarkable: My late night on-line order, with allergy considerations was confirmed that same night, to allay any concerns I might have. The bottom line to the dinner and to the restaurant and it's sense of commitment to excellence: Outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal and service.
Excellent meal and service. We took a Lyft so didn’t bother with parking. Promptly seated. Restaurant has outdoor dining and observant of Covid issues. Waiter wore face shield and gloves. Menu was digital to reduce handling. Very nice atmosphere. Everything was served at the right temp and service was prompt. We shared with family several items. The bread was amazing - served warm with 3 different spreads/toppings. All were distinct and quite tasty. The crust of the bread was crunchy yet a bit salty. Our next appetizer was pork grilled meatballs. Very flavorful and moist. Served on skewers with a bit of slaw. Highly recommend these. The nonna’s tagliatelle bolognese was al dente with just the right amount of meat sauce. Served hot, the spices were melded in and delicious. Next up was the sweet corn risotto. This was a winner! Nicely blended, and well cooked. The corn was complimentary and not overpowering. This combination blended together for a really great dish. Meats were the milk braised pork ribs and brick pressed chicken. The pork had pickled plums which were great as part of the dish as well as being served on a bed of roasted cabbage. The chicken was amazing lightly sauced with dates on top and braised kale. Simply delicious! Moist and hot. Very flavorful! Finally dessert was the ricotta cheesecake. Peaches in this were a beautiful compliment. Crust was well done and a perfect ending to a great meal.

Great Italian at Rossoblu - shared a number of plates, each very good. Pastas done very well. Good wine list, along with interesting craft cocktails. Fun place.
Be the first to ReplyMany better spots then Rossoblu
Our reservation was very early so the room was quiet. Tables with a view of the kitchen are very nice and the high ceilings make the room spacious. I was surprised the food was less then great given the loud applause for the chef and the team Our waiter only works part time so he was not to interested in our meal. Cherrystone clam 2/10 fishy and not edible. We wanted to return but we couldn’t find the waiter. Tortelloni red sauce was delicious but the pasta was heavy with little flavor on its own 6/10 Mushroom pasta 3/10 wow this was heavy and thick with little flavor Eggplant served cold is a nice appetizer 8/10 Perhaps we ordered wrong (pescatarian dishes ) or it was early in the service, but at $$$$ prices Rossoblu does not hold up to the intense competition around town
