RPM Seafood Chicago Reviews
Everything about this restaurant is top notch.
Our server provided honest feedback and great recommendations. The food was excellent.
Unfortunately RPM Seafood did not meet expectations.
For $40-$50 entrees you expect flavor and presentation. They failed to deliver. When we questioned the taste they said they make their risotto runny and it tastes how it should, which was very bland. Having ate here before and other RPMs I wonder if they had a new chef on a Saturday. The staff and service are great. But in our opinion it's not worth the money.
My oh my, RPM's reputation proceeds itself.
We celebrated my grandmothers 90th birthday here on Easter Sunday and our experience was fantastic, huge shoutout to the friendly waitstaff-- and our server Patrick. You made the experience memorable for us! The food was incredible. There was no bad bite! The Peekytoe Crab de Jonghe blew all of us away and you can't come here without trying it. I had the lunch special which was the Blackened Redfish and my goodness, the flavors were delectable. And the fish was so delicate and fresh. Also, the sweet flavor of the Alaskan king crab made all of us audibly gasp. For Chicago, this is the freshest crab anyone of us have had in the city. As for the steak, I don't eat red meat. But my family memebers said this was the best cooked steak in Chicago. And they've sampled almost all of Chicago's notable steakhouses! RPM knocks it out of the park. I highly recommend for any special occasion or a casual lunch or dinner. If you're craving a delicious bite of seafood, this is the place to be. It's now easily my favorite seafood spot in Chicago.
The food and service was great! I ordered the grilled king
The food and service was great! I ordered the grilled king crab legs and a crab cake after trying a bite from my friend. That crab cake is one of the best ones I have ever had! The king crab legs had a nice slight smokey flavor and the curry aioli that's on the side is amazing with the crab legs!
Sat at the sommelier table last night.
What a space. It's off to the side, secluded, intimate, and semi private. Isabella was absolutely amazing. Her extensive wine knowledge and pairings were spot on. The food was fantastic. Started off with a seafood caviar bite in the kitchen served in the kitchen - yes you get to see the kitchen in action - by no other than the head chef, Dustin. My wife and I have eaten at most of the highest end restaurants in Chicago from Alinea to Oriole to Smith and others. For the price, to have an assortment of hard to find wine included and the level of the food, the value is awesome and worth every penny. I can't recommend it enough. My only request would be to add $100 to the price and have the steak course be high end wagyu. All of the staff were on their toes and did awesome including Jennifer M. (Thank you Jennifer!). We will definitely be back to enjoy this fantabulous experience again.

RPM is amazing - great food and vibes right on the river in downtown Chicago. I would recommend going here with visitors if you are staying downtown. The surf and turf is great and the staff is very friendly and professional.
A good place for seafood in the city.
Had the ceviche to start, along with a crab cake. The ceviche was especially delicious and fresh. Husband and I split the mixed seafood grill, with a side of broccoli. Probably could have used another side, but it was nice to not be stuffed. The gelato dessert is huge and can easily be split. Service was good. Nice to see soem fellow patrons dressed up and celebrating things!
What a disappointing experience.
My partner and I went here to celebrate her birthday. We were seated between two tables with kids playing on their iPads with the volume up on them. Not ideal for a nice dinner celebration. Our server was wonderful and attentive. However, the cocktails we ordered came out well after our appetizers. The shrimp cocktail contained multiple shrimp that were not completely deveined. The scallops we ordered were very dry and overdone. The steak I ordered, medium-well, came out rare and lukewarm. These would be annoyance's at any restaurant but I don't feel should occur at a restaurant within this price point. The restaurant was kind and dropped off a crème brûlée, we assumed for my partners birthday, but the person who dropped it off literally said nothing. We found that strange and off putting. Eventually our server came by and explained the dessert and why we received it. The banana napoleon was decent. We both thought the physical space of the restaurant was beautiful. The food was mediocre, at best, though. We will not be coming back.

This is a regular spot for us, especially during spring and summer. We often stick to our usuals that we know we enjoy, but our waiter Eddie really made the specials sing. We tried the crab and white asparagus salad, which was sweet from the crab and a little peppery from the greens. I had the turbot in a carrot and miso beurre blac, the sauce was amazing! I tipped the plate to get as much of the sauce off the plate. New to us and I think to the menu too, the triple coconut cream pie, so much coconut! Delicious!! This will remain a top spot for us in Chicago, especially for seafood. It's a bit of a hot spot, especially patio seating in the warmer months, so book in advance for Thursday - Saturday. And bonus, they have my favorite G&T in the city. Great food, exceptional service.
Omg THEE best experience.
So first: you can't reserve for more than 8 online. You have to call events for more than 8. I had 10 guests. So i reserve it online for 8, just to save the space. I call like two days before the reservation to try to reserve for 10. and I had to leave a vmail for the events person. I left a vmail saying I reserved for 8 but needed to reserve for 10. They did call me back but I didn't answer, missed them. Called them again, no answer. Well the regular staff always answers. But if you want to reserve for more than 8 you have to talk to the events staff. When I called back, I asked the regular staff if I could get an area by the window. They said I had to ask events. Long story short. I never spoke to the events staff personally. I thought I was going to have to bargain at the door for my other two guests but NO. I had a table for 10 reserved! And it was by the window!!!! The communication is CLEARLY on point. They do check those voicemails. The service was EXCELLENT. The vibe and the luxor of the restaurant was a 10/10. Definitely upscale, vibrant, worth the $$$. Food was to DIEEEEE for. I got the ribeye steak. My drink: Bascule Mule was amazing. Lots of alcohol in it NO alcohol taste. Tasted like juice. So refreshing and it gets you THERE. (Buzzed) No sacrifices. Sometimes you sacrifice upscale for taste or service. No not here. Staff was attentive. Crowd was vibrant and fun. Everything was perfect. I'm going to go every RPM. Please come prepared to tip 20% or more. They are worth it! Trust me
The sister restaurant to RPM Steak and RPM Italian, this is
The sister restaurant to RPM Steak and RPM Italian, this is upscale seafood in a beautiful venue right on the river in River North. Our party of 8 had drinks, oysters, crab cakes, the truffle scrambled eggs, octopus, and the king crab appetizers (served raw and chilled) before ordering our entrees and sides, and we easily spent $1,000. It is pricey but you get what you pay for. They have several fish options in addition to seafood towers and even a few steaks. Their lemon Greek potatoes, crab Mac & cheese, whipped potatoes and mushrooms are all amazing sides as accompaniments to whatever you order. I loved the king crab appetizers so much that I ordered it for my entree (served grilled and warm.) Good desserts and after dinner drinks too! I was so full but couldn't stop taking small bites of the banana cream napoleon. So good! Highly recommend.
Food was wonderful.
Service was a little slow for a restaurant of this caliber. Disappointed by the rolls, especially for $16. The octopus and banana cream napoleon (not pictured) are not to be missed.
Food sucks. Never again
Location is great downtown Chicago Drinks are great. Staff are trying Poor management food sucks never again not recommend
Disappointing
Sadly the food didn’t compare with the atmosphere. Sent the scallops back once but should’ve sent them back twice. No colour on them at all even after asking the waiter to have them refried. Portions of all food was small. Was upsold on grated black truffle that was flavourless. Prefer to try smaller Ma and Pa restaurants next time we visit Chicago.
Incredibly fast and good
The food was extremely good, the service was impeccable, the waitress was checking on us the whole time and the speed when it came to the food was astonishing (never before I had experienced this kind of speed). I would certainly go back.
Really very good food and cocktails
We did not have a reservation so walked in and got 2 seats at the bar - often sitting at the bar you get the best service and that was the case here. We had a couple of excellent cocktails, my wife is particular, and they made hers to perfection. Then we shared a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrees and for a night with no reservations and just dropping by on chance it was just great and we would highly recommend this location.
Solid Seafood Restaurant
Good restaurant for fish and seafood. We had a business dinner and the service and food was overall good. The appetizers where better then the main course. Nothing to complain but also nothing outstanding. So overall a good seafood restaurant on the more high end price scale
Enjoyable lunch
Nice lunch on the water We shared a few things. The chopped salad was awesome as well as the ceviche. The miso cod wasn’t bad but wasn’t memorable. Very pricey but a nice meal
Chicago’s finest
Fresh, excellent seafood. Started with fresh shrimp, salad and moved on to crab cakes and white fish. Ended the meal with beautifully prepared beef, chicken, potatoes and more shrimp. Service was too notch and the view was unbelievably beautiful!
Michelin star worthy!
Deserves a Michelin star! The receiving line was polite, the wine list was elaborate, the sommelier was knowledgeable, the location was convenient and the service was up to scale. The food however, was the highlight of the evening. The selection of seafood was unique, well cooked and delicious. The only advice I would give is to arrange for taxis for guest pick up after the dinner.
Best Views Average Food
Well, hands-down, the best view for dining in the city of Chicago. It is a seafood house, so no real wow factor for food but everything was tasty, just no, oh my gosh factor. Service was efficient, but had to ask for things, not great at checking in on a table. All in all, I definitely would go back and try something other than the Seabass and halibut. Must say, stand out, the octopus definitely one of the better in the city.
Excellent all the way around
Super seafood resturant. Easy to get reservations. Could not get outdoor, but inside was lively. Right on the river. Dining room and bar area beautifully decorated. Menu options plentiful. An amazing Tanquery 10 dirty martini. Super cold. 3 blue cheese olives. Perfection. We shared a salad that was delish and plenty to share. I had the small seafood tower as my entree. Everything on it was delish...except west coast oysters. Not the resturants issue... I just LOVE east coast....so the delish EC oysters on the tower ruined the wc for me. My friend had the tacos. Delish and super filling. We shared the cream brulee. That was divine!! Service was exceptional. Atmosphere perfect. A great place for someone on vaca or a local!
great location, great crew and really yummy food.
thank you Eddie for a real special evening.
Absolutely top shelf seafood! Get the petite tower!! I had
Absolutely top shelf seafood! Get the petite tower!! I had the delicious fish tacos and rabbit down the hole cocktail!! Finish with a hazelnut ganache dessert
Had an amazing dinner.
Great food & great service. Rami was our server and was excellent. Kama's hospitality was unmatched. Love this place.

Obviously very pricey here but the food and service make it worth it. Really intricate and impressive octopus and lobster dishes that taste great. Dress nice as everyone is bougie here.
Service is too notch! Very accommodating and aim to
Service is too notch! Very accommodating and aim to please. Food was outstanding!! The sea urchin spaghetti was the best I ever had! The bone in swordfish is so tender and flavorful! So freaking delicious!
I had a blast and the food was amazing
Took the team here to eat and were had a great time. The place was very lively, everyone around had a great time and the seafood was amazing, but I decided to mix it up and get the wagyu steak strip, which was incredible! There is a red snapper ceviche that you must try here! We loved it so much we ordered 3 rounds of it and at it up with the tortilla chips. That was beyond amazing! The staff is very attentive and respectful too, you really feel taken care of.
The food was great! A little overpriced for the food
The food was great! A little overpriced for the food quality, but the service was exceptional and the view was great!
We had a nice evening at RPM Seafood last night.
We came here for our Valentine's Day dinner. It seems we only come here for special occasions (birthdays being the other).Located on the Chicago River, the views and ambiance are amazing, especially during warmer months. Being February, we were inside and the dining room has a very cozy, yet upscale vibe. I noticed there was plenty of bar seating this evening, probably because it was also Super Bowl Sunday. We started off with the RPM chopped salad, which was simple and tasty. Salad was lightly coated in dressing. This could be a meal for one and can be shared by two (each would get about 5-6 bites). My spouse got the tuna steak at poivre while I got the Dover sole fish and chips. We also got the uni spaghetti with black truffle to share (though I ate most of it) and the Brussels sprouts. The fish and chips was good! There were four pieces of fish, which I was surprised by as the photos on their website only showed two. I was also expecting fries (the photo didn't show any "chips" so I assumed they were going to be fries). But the chips were actually large cuts of potatoes that were lightly fried (are these the same potatoes as their greek potatoes?). I could only eat half and took the rest home for lunch then next day.The uni spaghetti was decadent. The spaghetti is hand made. The sauce was tasty as I love uni. There really weren't many uni pieces (those I found were tiny) but the sauce was an uni sauce. The portion was decent.Brussels sprouts were amazing! These were a perfect dinner accompaniment in a cold Chicago evening.Overall service was good. I note that there was a 3% service charge of sorts. I didn't ask about it but presume it is a holdover from Covid.
Great staff, great view, great food.
We ordered the miso cod, French fries, uni pasta and octopus. The octopus was by far my favorite, with the cod being a close second. I'm excited to go back to try more options. While I did enjoy everything, I didn't feel like it warranted the price. I may be an island if one on that opinion, but was looking for more robust flavor in the pasta outside of the uni itself. The French fries were a nice snack, but probably wouldn't order again.
Absolutely loved the restaurant week menu experience.
The one thing I would have changed is more options. The salmon and muscles were amazing. The pumpkin pie cake was also so delicious! The restaurant is beautiful inside and we got a view next to the river! The service was also wonderful!
It irritates me to enjoy a corporate restaurant, but
It irritates me to enjoy a corporate restaurant, but Lettuce has done an amazing job. RPM Seafood, Steak and Italian have all been wonderful. One of the best meals I've had in a while. Hamachi Crudo and the potatoes that came with the mussels were the best I've had and made a great meal stand out even more. Much care has been put into the menu and each component. Impressive. Ambiance was nice, service was good to very good, but I'd go back for sure. I'd like to see if I can get a big plate of the potatoes, multiple sauces to put them in, the hamachi and a bottle of wine......or maybe two. Nice job Lettuce Entertain You!
RPM restaurants never disappoint.
... I went here during covid for my mom's birthday and I was not disappointed. Everything we got was delicious and our waitress made sure that our greenhouse was clean and sanitized. Would def go back!!
Great food and location
Friendly staff, good atmosphere and great food, this in few words was our experience at RPM Seafood. I want to mention the quality of the Seafood Tower (excellent) and the very tasty Spanish Octopus. Great wine list with interesting bottles. Not cheap but prices are in line with the general quality of the place. We will return.
Glossy Riverside Restaurant with Great Food & Service
Loved everything about this glossy, upscale seafood restaurant. The welcome was warm, service excellent & food, wine & cocktails all superb. It has a stunning river side location, chic, sexy decor & exciting buzz. One of my top dining experiences in Chicago.
Nice restaurant next to the river
This restaurant is known for their seafood and it did not disappoint. The bar area is vibrant with a great staff. After my cocktail, I ordered the octopus appetizer which was outstanding. For my entree, the halibut was excellent with my side of mash potato’s. Overall great meal and service , will be back
