I can't really offer a review because I can never get a reservation. I have tried since before covid to use my gift card but they have limited windows to book and even when you meet the window they have nothing available. Even tried to use it at the Cafe but will not honor it because it's not on the same POS system Very frustrating. I suggest people skip gift cards from them.

I am disgusted by the lack of hospitality my family and I experienced when we came to celebrate a special occasion. As loyal customers of the Saddle River Inn, we expected to enjoy a smooth and pleasant dinner- and it was anything but this. First of all, it was 95 degrees when we arrived to the restaurant and were asked "how local are you" with a judgemental look by the host. He told my husband and son that they had to go home and change into long pants and that shorts weren't acceptable. Meanwhile, we saw other customers in shorts already eating at their tables with no problem. As we waited for half of my family to go home and change, an asshole waiter came over to us and asked if we wanted to hear the specials. When we said yes, he said he wouldn't recite them because he "didn't want to recite them again when everybody else got back." Additionally, we asked to order some food and he said no because he could only take our order once ( a fact we know to be false as previous customers). As i spoke to the host, he offered no apology or remorse and when we decided to get up and leave, he just watched without a word. Safe to say they have lost our business and generous tips.

3.5 stars. I've dined here numerous times before, and unfortunately my birthday dinner wasn't up to par. As we sat for our 8:30 reservation, we were told they were out of four items on the menu. The waiter "reserved" the last porterhouse for two (with his tablet), but 20 minutes later told us they ran out. Considering you have to make a reservation 30 days in advance, and therefore they know how many patrons they'll have, being out of 5 items shouldn't happen. The waiter opened our wine bottles but never poured or refilled our glasses. I got the veal parm instead, and it was good, not great. We ended with the sundae dessert for two, for $25, and it was ok, certainly not worth the price. Honestly, we felt rushed...not the experience we've had in the past.
Such a lovely experience - wonderful service and delicious
Such a lovely experience - wonderful service and delicious food. We were a large group and they were so accommodating and helpful with setting up our menu. Pretty ambiance, romantic so great for dates etc. Would definitely go back!
This place used to be very good.
Nice portions for the price and beautiful byo. The portions are not the same, they are not executed the same. The plates are boring and not even creative looking. The food quality is down yet the prices are higher. I am happy to pay for quality and creativity. But please do not price gouge because you can. Also, time to clean and restore to the beautiful luster it once was.
Food was good as always.
Id say a few of the dishes needed a tad bit of salt or more to the dish (the sea bass). Leo was a great server, very knowledgeable and friendly. I always love coming here!
The food is wonderful but quite expensive.
At least you get the quality for the price. It is a BYOB restaurant, so if you enjoy a bar experience, go elsewhere. Service is friendly and efficient. It's a romantic restaurant and good for a special night out
One of the best meals we ever had.
Had high hopes and we finally got a reservation day/time--so worth it. We are big fans of the chef's jersey city restaurants so came in excited to try to the style. Order: For appetizers, we split the noodle dish and the lobster toast. My husband isn't the biggest seafood fan and he loved the toast. It was so fresh. Noodles are amazing, very similar to all the dishes we love from Cellar 335. Mains, we had the house filet dish which comes with this insane glaze/white sauce together. I couldn't even articulate how much I liked this--perfect steak and the sauce was completely unique and wonderful. Husband had the bolognese and it was delicious. We shared some roasted artichokes on the side. I'm a huge artichoke fan and these were easily some of the best I've had--simple and yet so tasty. Dessert we split the peanut butter mousse and I was a bit hesitant ordering this after such a large meal as peanut butter things can sometimes get too dense. It was the opposite--light, not too sweet and perfect density. A really perfect ending to the meal. Ambiance of the Inn was intimate and cozy. BBOB is a nice touch. On-site parking in a nice area of Saddle River. Overall, amazing experience.
I am so surprised by the high ratings for this restaurant.
We were very disappointed. Making a reservation at this restaurant is unnecessarily difficult. No one picks up the phone majority of the time but even when they do, they are not accommodating at all. Nearly impossible to get a reservation online using OpenTable but no reservation beyond 30 days. When we finally get there, half the restaurant was empty...not sure why it was so difficult to get a reservation. Food and service was unexpectedly subpar. I will say majority of the staff looked pleasant except our waiter, who was just very unpleasant. We were very close to asking if it was possible to get another waiter. Then the food...overall subpar and I have to point out that it was probably the worst lamb chop and foie gras we have ever had. Such a shame because we were so looking forward to a wonderful experience...esp. since it took so long to get a reservation!
One of the finest restaurants in north Jersey would be one
One of the finest restaurants in north Jersey would be one of the finest restaurants anywhere. Exceptionally appointed food, great service and a very cute ambiance. I'd like to make this a 2-star review, as getting a reservation is near impossible, but alas I cannot tell a lie. Just a perfect setting and meal all around.
Delicious!! Took my s/o here for his birthday.
We ordered the Porter house steak for two and it was the best thing I've ever had. Our waiter was attentive without being annoying. It's a smaller place but you don't feel cramped or on top of other tables. Can't wait to pick this as my bday spot next year :)
SRI is better today than ever before.
We're 30+ year patrons but haven't gone since new ownership/chef till last night. Our meal was fantastic. I had the wagyu cap of ribeye. One of the most unique steaks I've had. My wife had the duck which was delightful. Lobster appetizer was excellent as was kale Cesar salad. Service, ambience and hospitality all fire on 8 cylinders.
Food was very good and I really enjoyed the ambiance.
Duck, risotto and crudo appitizer were delicious.
Always an exceptional experience.
Ambience is stunning especially during the Christmas season. Food, service & attention detail is top notch.
I haven't been here but feel compelled to give them 1 star
I haven't been here but feel compelled to give them 1 star based solely on my attempt to make a reservation. The girl that handles the reservations is so dismissive and rude on top of the reservation policy being ridiculous. With so many amazing restaurants in the area, I wouldn't walk into this place when a woman like that is the face of the business. I've been to the best restaurants in Manhattan and have never, ever had anything but ease and professionalism making reservations. Wouldn't give my money to an establishment that acts like they're doing you a favor to patronize their business. Hard pass!!
SUPERB!
Saddle River Inn is one of the most suburb restaurants we have been to! We had their pasta appetizer with white truffles, octopus and duckโฆ.yum. We dine quite a bit in NYC and this tops all of them for service and many for food. The food the service (Matt and Leo were excellent as well as all the others) and the atmosphere especially at this time of year was amazing! Anthony, the GM was also so accommodatingโฆโฆ.kudos to Jamie Knott and his team! We canโt wait to return!
Always Amazing
Walk into an amazing cozy festive room for starters. You will be greeted at the front door with a big smile and your waitstaff will always be the best . Then just close your eyes, point to anything on the menu , and you will be beyond pleased with the presentation and the quality. Take your time, sit back and enjoy a not-to-be-forgotten experience every time !
Disappointed
We used to go all the time, the food is amazing. I went for my mothers 70th birthday. I planned a special night for my mother. Besides the managers being rude to us before arriving about balloons (which I didnโt know werenโt allowed due to ambience), I told them I will be there early to handle it. When we got there, Anthony said to my husband, we arenโt worried about your party, we are worried about everyone else. Last time I checked, we were paying customers as well. We didnโt even have cake there. We packed it up to have at my house instead. The next day I emailed the owner Jamie and he emailed me back right away apologizing and would love to discuss further over the phone. I gave him my number, and times to speak, and no call back. Very disappointed. We used to eat there at least 2-3 times a month between the restaurant and the cafe. I havenโt been back since. Iโm not interested in spending my money where Iโm treated poorly.
Better Than The Best
Always, always come out raving about this very special place. We donโt come often enough, and it is honestly well worth treating yourself. The ambiance, the food and the service are all top shelf. Iโd eat the food from here on a park bench, itโs so wonderfully presented and prepared. Amazing experience once again!
Once again, canโt be beat!
We have dined at Saddle River Inn quite a bit now, and I have never had a disappointing meal at this place. I typically only review when traveling, but figured itโs time to acknowledge how wonderful this restaurant it. From the menu to the specials, youโll find perfectly prepared plates served by an excellent staff. Everything about this place is too notch, and donโt forget that itโs a BYO! Highly recommend the Kale Caesar salad, Tuna Tartare, and the bone-in Veal Chop Parmigiana. If they have the smoked salmon appetizer special (pictured), GET IT!!!!!
Beautiful food, service and ambiance! It is BYOB, neat
Beautiful food, service and ambiance! It is BYOB, neat casual, or upscale dressy. I haven't been here for a private event but I'm sure it is a wonderful place to have a special occasion.
Excellent food and service.
Ambiancewas nothing to brag about but I think this place is definitely higher than 4 stars so I'm rating it 5. I would return just for the food.
The food is very good.
The ambiance is small but nice. The service is excellent. It's of course very pricey, but that should surprise you unless you're a pop-in (which is unlikely haha). That being said, I knocked them down a star because I tried to move our reservation to 30 minutes later but they said we couldn't because they were booked. 30 minutes into our meal there were at least 3 tables open. Maybe they were no shows, but that's unlikely because they have a table hold fee. But then again, maybe the Uber rich don't care haha. Ah well, it's a great restaurant for a special occasion and we'll be back.
The high hopes of enjoying a special meal at this
The high hopes of enjoying a special meal at this supposedly sought-after restaurant were quickly dashed by services that were slightly unfriendly. That would have been tolerated if the food was fantastic. But that was far from the case. Two appetizers and two entries were all overpowered by strong and less-than-sophisticated sauces that are usually telltales of a mediocre restaurant and a potential sign of a chef that isn't confident to let the food speak for themselves. The hype just isn't reflective of the reality. Either the hype has been artificially created by brilliant marketing, or there is a change in ownership or kitchen staff. Whatever it is, something doesn't add up. Sadly but certainly, will not go back.

What a great place - first time there for my bday dinner on Friday. Service was great. You have to make a reservation a month in advance for primetime friday/Saturday times. Food was outstanding, the steak tartar was my favorite along with the maribar and scallop entree. The artichoke side was great too. Banana bread dessert was great too. Food was reasonably priced for the quality.
Food is good.
Service is good. But you can't make a reservation. It's too frustrating.
Ok. It's my first time at saddle River inn and I get why
Ok. It's my first time at saddle River inn and I get why this restaurant is always busy and difficult to get reservations. Overall, food and service is excellent. We had crab cakes and one dish I can't recall the name as appetizers. I would say crab cakes is a must. Full of crabs that are moist and crusty on the outside. One of the better crab cakes I had. The other appetizer is good but I would choose crab cakes. For main course, we had halibut and lobster. Both were excellent and I highly recommend both dishes. We had desert but I would say it wasn't anything special. I will certainly come back and try different dish.

My boyfriend wanted to find a romantic place for our Valentines day dinner However we couldn't get a reservation online so I called and spoke to a gentleman named Anthony who gladly accommodated us for Saturday . The place is simply adorable , I loved their old fashioned decor , very classy and definitely romantic with dimmed lights and a great choice of music on the background .The waiter ( Ives ) extremely professional and pleasant .Appetizers: grilled octopus was good but the burrata and figs were simply amazingly tasty . The main course : we had the bone in lamb chop and the pan seared scallops with sides of broccoli and maple glazed carrots , everything cooked to perfection with a great presentation . The dessert : OHHHH MYYY GODDDD , that was hands down the best dessert I've ever had in my life :) nothing compares to that , it was a peanut butter mousse with raspberry sauce and walnuts topping .. simply heaven on earth , I even took one home haha YES it was that good . The bathroom : yes people , the bathroom !! Was spotless clean , for a place that busy it is extremely difficult to keep a bathroom that clean .. We definitely plan on going back sometime in the summer when we can sit outside and enjoy the river view . They have coat check and it's BYOB . But so worth it !! If you need a place for a special occasion I encourage you to go there , just make sure you get a reservation .

Recent;y had an opportunity to attempt a reservation at the Inn but without success. Had left a message on their VM with no call back. Tried calling back but the phone went unanswered during the afternoon a couple of times finally had to give up. We have been at SRI a few times before and always enjoyed it. Oh I forgot to mention that we were celebrating our 50th Anniversary and thought this would be a special place to make that happen and yes I did mention that in the VM. Maybe next time??
AMAZING!!!!! My wife and I celebrated our second wedding
AMAZING!!!!! My wife and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary at this wonderful establishment. Based on the reviews I was expecting it to be really good. Folks!.... The food was out of this world! Waoooo. I can't finish this review due to over eating (too full to think straight). But I do highly recommend Saddle River Inn.

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Saddle River Inn at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Saddle River Inn page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* EternalAnt36, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* EternalAnt36 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to EternalAnt36 for any questions Peter may have as EternalAnt36 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* EternalAnt36 now uses their connections at Saddle River Inn to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If EternalAnt36 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, EternalAnt36 receives the $200 reward which is credited to EternalAnt36's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Saddle River Inn!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
