This is one of my top restaurants in Toronto now! I didn't accept it like it so much but It's definitely living up to the hype. It's a cute restaurant downtown with nice ambience. That has a combination of Japanese Mexican food that is really delicious. The appetizers were super tasty And we're super cute and small. We also got the volcanoe and shrimp tempura roll. The best thing we got while beef bulgogi tacos A great combination of mexican japanese culture mixing. These were super crispy with the Tortilla fried and really delicious full toppings like lettuce, tomato and onions as well as the really flavorful beef. The beef in the tacos was really delicious . I would just come back for those alone!! If you could get one thing, I would definitely recommend the tacos.

A good, intimate place - dim but well lit so I can still see my guests, haha. Tasted both the tacos and the sushi and it was appetizing! The mocktail drinks were all so delicious too. Our server also took care of us very well. :)

The vibes at this place are fire! Such a nice atmosphere for a weekday date night. There was no wait for a table on a weekday night so we were seated promptly. The rolls here are super unique and our favourite was the Atlantic queen roll (with salmon) which was full of char flavour from the torched salmon at the top. The soft shell crab taco was full of flavour as well, will definitely come to try the other tacos next time.

They serve great sushi and great tacos (for Canada ! The sushi combo A is a beautifully plated and generous sushi plate. The sushi were all tasty and the spicy salmon roll was good. The roll was plentiful and not too spicy, so perfect for me. The bulgogi taco has a ton of juicy bits of beef. It aAlso tastes great. My only criticism is the cheese in the bottom of the taco below the meat gave it a strange texture. I think they should remove the cheese below the beef. Next time I'll try the chicken tinga taco. The crispy taco was also well made. A real fried tortilla shell, not a typical store bought taco shell as most Canadian places use . I'm from California so I know tacos. I recommend Saku, or maybe should be spelled Sacu (sushi/taco).

Right now they have a takeout deal for 30% off their special platters and that's a deal we couldn't resist! We got platter M2 and were very happy with it. The sushi was great and we really liked all three rolls. The Salmon Avocado rolls were packed with a lot more salmon and avocado than we'd get at most places so that was a very pleasant surprise. The Atlantic Queen roll and Spicy Salmon roll were both super flavourful as well. From the three tacos we tried the Shrimp was definitely our favourite. They were very well seasoned and the toppings complimented the flavour well. I was so excited for the Bulgogi taco, and although the beef was delicious there was way too much Queso Fresco that overwhelmed the taste. The fish tacos were pretty good but nothing too amazing. We hope to be back sometime, especially if they still have the 30% platters takeout deal. When we picked up our food the interior looked really nice so we may be tempted to dine in next time as well!

The severs were pretty quick with our orders .. We ordered 3 kinds of sushi and the prawn tacos , but more than the sushi's , I loved the ceviche and the salmon salads. It was fresh and delicious . I recommend the salads for sure . Lunch time was not crowded but the place is small so I think you need to reserve .
Be the first to ReplyI did not love the food service.
Upon entering, the waitress did not seem friendly. I thought it was me but my husband agreed as well. Food was okay. I don't like sushi that is heavily sauced salty. The pressed sushi had a mushy texture as well. There were three waitresses on staff and they completely ignored a couple for five minutes waiting to be seated. The couple left after a waitress passed by them and didn't even acknowledged their existence. I will not dine there again. If you really want great tasting sushi, go to Ju Sushi.

Summerlicious ends Sunday, Jul 23, definitely don't miss out! When I booked Saku, the menu looked oddly familiar but I didn't recognize the connection to The Haam. It has the same great food and lively atmosphere. It's a little less busy during late lunch hour, but there were a couple tables and service was still great. Appetizers are beautifully plated and yummy, the yuzu salsa was a really nice touch to seared sashimi. This time instead of tacos and rolls, I tried the sushi, sashimi and futomaki, which was good in variety and freshness, but missing the wow factor like my experience at The Haam. But definitely not to the chef's fault, cause they still have rolls and taco on the menu, and the Shrimp Taco packs a punch!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Summerlicious 2023 value! Oreo churros were amazing.
Also - I accidentally left my wallet there when I dined there and the staff were amazing. Took care to answer my emails and kept my wallet safe until I came to get it. The food, ambience was great - it was an accidental Queen West find for me - glad we found it and WILL be back!

Cute place that reminds me of Hamm! The environment is great. Great for group/friend gathering. They have specials for each day of the week. We'd/thurs is $3 off cocktails. We had the Tokyo rose and Hawaiian breeze - both really good!
Be the first to ReplyThe Oshi-sushi is the best part of the experience.
The menu has been parsed down and now does not include any basic rolls in order to supplement the special rolls. The service is rushed and cold hearted. It makes you feel like you're only there to give them your money.
Be the first to ReplyWent on a busy Saturday night and still had great service.
Food came out quickly and the portions were generous for two. The highlight was the salmon tataki, which was a nice contrast to the fried takoyaki. Also, the assorted tempura was much bigger than we expected! Our server gave us some great recommendations. We'll be back!

We ordered "Chef Special Sushi" for $31 and had absolutely no regrets. Every single piece was delicious. I can't wait to go back to Saku Sushi to have some more of their sushi. I'm very picky about sushi restaurants, for most of them are mediocre in quality at best, but this one is definitely above average.
Be the first to ReplyUsed to love this place, but the Salmon Avocado Donburi
Used to love this place, but the Salmon Avocado Donburi bowl is now priced at $27 for a single serving. Add an order of Gyoza and your meal is now $40. That's well beyond anything that can be justified by inflation and it's highly doubtful I'll be back. It's insane pricing.

Their sushi honestly is mediocre, what I would say is a plus about Saku Sushi is their daily bar specials that are incredibly affordable to grab some drinks with friends! The ambience inside is very dimmed and relaxed! but overall their sushi is a little too pricey.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is sentimental to me.
I had my first date with my husband here and the food was delicious back then as it is now. It's a solid sushi restaurant that serves great quality sushi, sashimi, and rolls. We took our cousins here when they visited from California.

sushi was fresh and tasty, great service as well, would def come back

3-1/2 stars overall3 stars for dine-in4 stars for takeoutI have been ordering takeout here many times especially during the pandemic. The taste, quality and preparation are very good and worth the extra expense over other sushi places.Recently I was here twice for dine-in and while the food was still good, I was very disappointed with the service and environment. The first visit a friend and I sat outside on the patio which happens on the street. I have never been fond of street-side patio dining and here it's especially bad because it's on a very busy main street with lots of noise, traffic, dirt and homeless people loitering and panhandling. I know this is not their fault and this is associated with most street-side patios downtown, but it was made worse from the music they were playing which was pretty loud and playing abrasive rap music which really ruin the dining ambiance and sometimes hard to have a nice conversation. Service was slow and it was hard to get the attention of the waitstaff. The food was good but I was surprised to see pita chips served with the taco wasabi (octopus appetizer). There were also nori sheets served along side which is the proper way of eating the dish. They were out of most of their Japanese beers so I had to settle for Sapporo, which I can't really complain.I think their pressed and torched sushi is overrated and not worth the extra $2-3 per sushi order. It hides the freshness of the fish and I don't care for extra dense rice.A week later I went by myself and ate inside at the bar. They were still playing the same rap music and it was even louder inside and the music wasn't censored, so there were a lot of N-words and F-bombs heard throughout the restaurant (there were a couple of families with young kids there so I thought it was really awkward and inappropriate. It felt more of a bar or club rather than a Japanese restaurant.I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo for one which included the house roll. The "chef's selection" of sushi and sashimi was your typical selection of sushi fish and nothing special.I thought service would be better at the bar as there is always staff walking by, but this was definitely not the case. It took forever to take my order, asking for more wasabi and water, and to get my bill.I think I may just stick to getting takeout if I were to order from here again.

some of the best sushi I've had in the WORLD! The cuts are so fresh and so yummy. I wish I live in the area I'd be here every week
Be the first to ReplyAtmosphere is nice, waitresses are attentive.
We usually get two speciality roles (at least one that has the potato garnish because that ingredient is so unique and tasty) and it fills up two people (who have appetites on the smaller end). A tiny bit pricy but you re paying for guaranteed quality and uniqueness - any sushi lover should try Saku Sushi at least once and I'm betting they'll probably return many times like we have.

Came here on a week night, and it was not super busy, so was able to walk-in with no wait for a table. I have been here pre-pandemic and found that post-pandemic the service and food were just as good as I remember. The menu and selection of fish changes with season but the fish is extremely fresh. I their specialty rolls are large and filling, with great flavour combinations.

Saku is my favourite Sushi restaurant in Toronto! The flavors are beautifully distinct, contemporary and delicious! Every one of their specialty sushi's are a treat!
Be the first to ReplyI used to frequent saku often Prepandemic.
The aesthetics of the restaurant was very pretty, low lights dinner vibe, can be quite romantic. The food was always plated so nice as well. The food was delicious and fresh as well. However I got take out recently and was disappointed. The nigiri and maki tasted a bit too fishy as in not fresh. It was ok taste for the price. Perhaps the experience is different in person.

it's been years since I've last been to Saku - especially with the pandemic. walking down queen street, i noticed a lot of the old places have now closed because of the pandemic but i'm so glad saku sushi is still here! still chic as always where the ambiance is great for a celebration, just meeting up, or a date.still one of the solid sushi places in toronto that you can't go wrong with. prices are fair for the quality. we got a large hot sake to share and the aburi sampler. it was delicious and quality has not gone down. honestly had forgotten about it for a while since i have also not been out in some time but it was nice to come back to a nostalgic place
