How do they do it? While preserving the "legend," they keep up with the changing market and ensure that everyone feels comfortable. The servers are professionals, and the facility is iconic. We prefer to go after the theater, but many (including families) come beforehand. If you pay attention to the menu, prices can be quite reasonable. While many other, once-similar establishments have folded, Sardi's continues to flourish, earning their great reputation for food, friendliness, service, and great cocktails!

I'm a native New Yorker yet I've never been to Sardi's?!? So I went. We did lunch before a Wednesday matinee. I love OLD NYC, so this was right up my alley. I had reservations and was sat right away. My one complaint was we waited 20 minutes before anyone came over. We were given two our drinks comped so thank you for making it up to us. My drinks were delish. I ordered the turkey club ( it was really yummy and fresh) and Hubbs got the burger and it was cooked just right. I loved people watching and seeing all the pics on the wall. Upstairs was cool too, and I spotted Kermit. LOL. I love MERCH so I bought a T-shirt. I don't know what everyone is complaining about, it's ICONIC. I'll be back!

Conveniently located for my date with Corey Stoll next to the Hayes Theatre. First time at Sardis, we hit the upstairs bar with some friends Michael and Loften who are old pro's at this. Big strong Martinis made by experienced and solid bartenders who can do this blindfolded. A caprese and a shrimp cocktail with the Martini tided us over through the play next door. Average appy was $26 so not cheap, we easily dropped a hundred before Corey took a deep breath next door. All part of the theatre experience darlings.

A few too many tables for the space with a stodgy/fairly ordinary menu- but it is worth the experience as the service is very good and their food preparation is enjoyable - we like it very much for pre theatre and the historic environment.
Be the first to ReplyIt's old time theatre district dining.
I have been there with family or friends at least a dozen times. Service is excellent. Food is basic and traditional. Atmosphere is appropriate. Pricing is fair. My only complaint is that they added tables therefore at times uncomfortable.
Be the first to ReplyWe had such a lovely meal at Sardi's.
I've wanted to go for years but they were closed for renovation. Our server was delightful and knew exactly what to order. I had the spinach cannelloni combo one with beef. Piping hot and delicious. The bar is gorgeous as is the dining room. And of course all the drawings of celebrities. They stay open late for the after theatre crowd.

went to sardi's yesterday was with a large group and we knew to break down into tables of 6 and 4 which wasn't a problem. ordered the hamburger and asked for medium well. food finally came and wasn't cooked and dripping raw juices all over the plate and my fries. called waiter and showed definitely not med well. he took my food as well as my friend s who ordered exactly the same. took over ten mins for return and was given back my same burger but now was overdone they took all my toppings off and gave new bun. fries we now cold. extremely disappointed as years ago used to be good. sad to say nothing extra was given and not even people checking to see if enjoying
Be the first to ReplyFood was brought out the way we all ordered it.
My friend had the Caesar Salad. I had the shrimp salad and my other friend the turkey club. My salad was very fresh and honored my request for ice berg lettuce. There was 4 shrimp, chilled and cooked correctly. Everyone else's food was exactly the way they wanted it. Service was a little bumpy when we first got there because it was 45 people. But once things calmed down, service was very attentive. My friend wanted to take the rest of her salad home. The waiter by mistake, threw it out. They gave my friend a complete new salad to take home. All in all, everything was fine. The walls were decorated with caricatures of all the Mayor's of NYC, along with famous singers and actors. This restaurant is a true iconic dining establishment dating back to the late 40s. True nostalgia

This place is an iconic Broadway stop! Great atmosphere and fun pictures hang on the wall. The food is good and the service is great. A fun place to go when you want to get dressed up and hit the theatre! We enjoy it every time.

A great experience all around! Fast and Friendly service, great tasting food and large menu, and an unbeatable ambiance for a pre or post show meal.
Be the first to ReplySardi's is a must when in town! Very attentive service.
No words explain the ambiance. Come revel in the history and be part it's present ambiance. We've always enjoyed the food regardless if it's been for dinner or apps during cocktails.

When in the theater district of NYC, a visit to the iconic Sardi's is a must! This venerable restaurant has been serving guests before and after the show for decades. The walls are covered in characitures of Broadway stars over the years...some you may even recognize! The food is Italian. Hearty, delicious and promptly served. Servers are friendly and efficient. Dinks are good. Wine selection quite suitable. Price point moderate.
Be the first to ReplyI've been to the Palm.
..I've done most the restaurants in restaurant row...have done Ellen's Star Dust Diner and all those other restaurants that you frequent when you're doing dinner and a show. But this is the first time that I've ever been to Sardi's and it was classic New York. What more could you ask for. Nights like this are so fun! My uncle and cousin asked me to dinner and a show as a special surprise for my aunt. We stopped at Sardi's for dinner before the new Neil Diamond show "A Beautiful Noise". It was such a great evening. Sardi's is the New York you see in the movies. A crowded dining area with rowdy theater folks coming for a bite to eat. Growing up I loved watching the Muppets take Manhattan and always dreamed of coming here and it was everything I thought. Right up to when I saw Kermit's picture upstairs en route to the restrooms. Our meals were here tasty, but nothing too special. Obviously it's a bit on the pricier side, but it's worth it for the that classic New York experience. The lemon sorbet was a nice way to end a very hearty meal before a show. Service was excellent and exactly what you would expect. This place is a well oiled machine and if it ain't broke don't try to even fix it.

I was so excited to come back here after such a long time since my last visit. SARDIS has always been a staple of my visits to New York City. Had a cocktail upstairs before dinner in the main dining room. Being a single diner can be stressful enough, but how disappointing it was to wait approximately 10 minutes to be greeted and given a menu. All while watching other diners who arrived after I did be given immediate service. This restaurant use to represent class and elegance, sadly after this encounter I'm not sure I'll ever be back. The lackluster attention to service is truly astounding and am insult to the Sardi's legacy.

The food was terrible; our 18 year old son even said he could make better food. It was so disappointing seeing as how we were going to a play right after this so we left hungry and disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyReturned to Sardi's yesterday after having not been there
Returned to Sardi's yesterday after having not been there for probably almost 10-15 years. We had a great meal and the food was just as well-prepared as the last time we were there. Had the spinach cannelloni appetizer and it was excellent. The supreme sauce was delicious and the crepes were tender. My wife had an excellent side salad with apples, walnuts, cheese and spinach, and the salmon entree which was much better than I would have anticipated. The salmon came with mashed sweet potatoes and had a sauce that was made with orange and teriyaki. My entree was a lentil stew that had broccoli florets, polenta cakes, and roasted mushrooms in it. It was excellent and it was something I did not expect to see on the menu here. When we were there, there were only a few tables as it was during odd hours (it was about 3.15pm). There were many servers doing prep work around the dining room and we were waited on by the maitre'd. He was very friendly and took good care of us. I greatly appreciate that at Sardi's the staff still are attired in dressy uniforms and quickly refill drinks, bring bread, etc.The only disappointments we experienced were related to the missing "traditional" tableside items that Sardi's was well-known for: Caesar salad, steak tartare, and Baked Alaska. I have had all three there in the past and enjoyed all of them. I was very disappointed that since reopening after the Covid closure, Sardi's still had not revived these things. We were told that these things would return, however; apparently in an effort to reduce close contact after reopening these things were cut from the menu and now with staffing issues facing so many restaurants, this has further delayed returning these items. I really hope that they do return as they were each good dishes and it is so unusual to see them on menus or to have them made tableside anymore. That said, we would definitely return and enjoyed our meal.

Fun atmosphere. The food? Over the top!! Wonderful restaurant. Highly recommend visiting the bar on the 2nd floor.

I belong to a group called (no kidding) called "Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society". This group, around since 1957, has had many distinguished members, all people who have some connection to the automobile culture. The group has held a monthly meeting at Sardi's for more years than I can remember and the atmosphere of the restaurant adds to the fun. The walls are covered with caricatures of famous and semi-famous people - all signed by the person being honored. The fun for me is trying to figure out (without reading the signature) who the person is (or was). Because many images are decades old and Broadway theater related, I strike out a lot, but it's still fun."Chowder" doesn't go to Sardi's for the food, it's the tradition that is the draw. However, they serve us solid "banquet" fare with a pasta, chicken, fish, salad and dessert meal that is tasty, hot, and available in generous portions from the uniformed wait staff - very professional and friendly. The signature menu item is the pointy dinner rolls. I could eat 10 of them - crusty outside and moist inside. The perfect compliment to the real salted butter on the table. Mmmmm...One surprise for me is the cost of drinks at the bar. While I waited yesterday to get a diet soda for myself and club soda for a friend, the gent in front of me requested a glass of red wine. He got a shock when the bill - over $14 - was presented. My shock was $10 for two non-alcoholic drinks. Welcome to NYC.So, I think Sardi's is an experience worth a visit. Old, a little creaky and yet filled with a cool classic atmosphere, serving a decent bill-o-fare albeit at serious NYC prices. I go a few times a year for meetings and never hear any carping from the fussy Chowder members about the food, service, or prices - it's a NYC experience and I enjoy every minute. My opinion - Go, soak up the atmosphere, then walk around the Broadway theater district and add a full day of memories to your soul.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed with our dinner.
Food was great, but service was lacking. Glasses of water never refilled. Never asked if we wanted another drink. Food took forever to be delivered and then the wrong food was delivered. So we had to hurry to eat our food when the correct food was delivered.
Be the first to ReplyThe service at this restaurant is excellent.
We had a 6 pm dinner reservation prior to seeing Phantom of the Opera at 8 pm and our group size was 4. I was attracted to this restaurant due to its proximity to the theatre and long history in NYC but a little hesitant due to some of the reviews I read. I went in with modest expectations and left impressed. We were seated immediately upon entering, our waiter greeted us and could not have been more accommodating. The bread they brought to the table was delicious, the cannelloni was such good comfort food and the apple crumble dessert with ice cream was heavenly. Their wine bottle prices are also really reasonable. The women's restroom even had an attendant who was the sweetest lady. We finished eating and walked across the street to the theatre. Comparing this to other restaurants in its price point it was a good but the service exceeded all expectations. A great choice for pre-theatre dining.
