Excellent German restaurant/market in German Town…
We had a great lunch here on a Friday as e traveled from Cincinnati to Massillon Ohio. It was our first visit but it won’t be ur last. Quaint place with a market selling their pastries and sausages and of course a German Restaurant with a small bar. Service was excellent and the food was great. We shared a bowl of the potato soup that was great. Then my wife had their cabbage rolls and I had the Wiener Schnitzel. Both were great and a couple of Warsteiner draft beers helped too. We finished up by sharing a crème puff that was amazing. Please try this restaurant if you haven’t already done so.

Schmidt's food is very authentic and we all yearned to go back to Wiesbaden DEU! Incredible service and very knowledgeable too.

Don’t know what’s wrong but the waitress is avoiding our table…still waiting for our food? Sat down & ordered right away. Only been served a salad so far. Kinda soured by this place now.😒

Always love Scmidts. Had 2 in our group that had never been there and they too very much liked it. Turkey rueben, traditional rueben, stuffed cabbage and of course desserts of apple strudel German chocolate cake and of course the Schmidt's cream puffs!

We all enjoyed our meals. Probably the best Ruben I have had including the ones I had in Ireland. This sauerkraut was soooo good. And the soft pretzel with beer cheese ummm… delicious. I wish this place existed in Montana. It took me back to my PA Dutch roots & I loved it. You do need to wait so make sure you get there plenty of time before you’re actually wanting to eat. They also lost my reservation but we were still able to get in so make sure you go check on your wait time occasionally. We did not see the according players but heard that is fun & chaotic at the same time. We loved the atmosphere & my party enjoyed the unlimited sausage platter but wished it had toothpicks saying what each sausage was.

Schmidt’s From the outside, this place looks great. Walking in the door you realize that it does not disappoint. The staff is super friendly. There is polka music playing in the background and the decor is spot on! The menu is well put together and not overly large. We ordered the sausage sampler, the chicken schnitzel with beer cheese and the kraut balls. Everything was very good. The mustard with the kraut balls was very flavorful. The sausage was great and the portion was just right. We also had cream puffs that were very rich and flaky. Great food and atmosphere.

Food was delicious and the service was very good. The neighborhood with shops and well maintained residences was very nice and friendly.

Fantastic lunch! We had the sausage, sampler platter, and the Reuben, plus we got the peanut butter, chocolate, cream, puff, and the German chocolate cake for dessert. The service was great and very quick. The food was fantastic.

I spent 2 years from 81-83 in Germany was really excited about trying this place. I was working a race in Hebron, Oh. And was staying in Heath about 40-45 minutes away. So it was quite a drive to even get there. Sat at the bar and the young man took my order which was Currywurst for the appetizer and then I’d order dinner once I seen how I felt after having that. The Currywurst was just ok in my opinion. I still have a good memory of what it tasted like in Germany and this was not it. Close though. I did order Sausage stew to go which was supposed to have peppers and onions and a sauce with different types of sausages. Sounded really good. I drive back to my hotel and when I opened it up all that it had was pasta and some sausage covered with some heavy BBQ sauce. I never did see peppers or onions. Just wasn’t what I expected. Might try again and get a more traditional dinner.

We ate here expecting something out of the ordinary and while the decor was interesting the food definitely wasn't. I had the sampler platter with four different sausages; one was good, two were so-so and one was bad. The hot potato salad was good, the sauerkraut so-so and the applesauce was blah. We split a jumbo cream puff that was advertised as a specialty and I've had better from chain grocery stores. We then went to the Schmidt Fudge Haus across the street and bought some fudge, it was decent but definitely doesn't hold a candle to Mackinac Island fudge. All in all disappointing compared to the advertised buildup.

My mom is from Munich, Germany where I visit quite often. I had the bottomless sausage sampler for $19. Sauer Kraut and potato salad as good as mommas or any place in Munich. Sausages authentic and tasty albeit with American twist! Did not have the sauer brauten or snitzel but I suspect they are authentic. Lots of German draft beer. You will not be disappointed here! Great atmosphere in 1880s building and German music playing. Friendly fast service!

GPS took us to the door. Quaint cobblestone street in historic area. Wish we had gotten there in time before the fudge shop closed!
The food was authentic and reminded me of my childhood. Desserts are awesome too.
Good German food
Nice restaurant tucked into the old German section of Columbus. Chicken schnitzel and Bahama Mama were good, and the cream puffs were amazing! They also have a kid's menu (not listed on their website), that has chicken fingers, burgers, grilled cheese, and a frankfurter. Staff was great, too, and service was pretty fast.
Be the first to ReplyService was good and food was average at best
We were so excited to go but the food was not as great as I had hoped. A local had warned us it was not as good as it used to be but I can't compare it to anything since this was our first trip here. The spaetzle was hard and had almost no flavor. The wiener schnitzel was okay but the sauce on top had way too much salt. Hopefully it was an off day but I won't go back.

They are not going to bring back the buffet. Sampling everything was what made this restaurant special. It was also nice to not have to wait for a long time to get your food. The restaurant is empty now where it use to have long wait times to get in so I guess that is a good thing. If diners ever return to this restaurant they will have alot of trouble serving everyone without the buffet. Even before covid when we ordered off the menu it could take 2 hours to receive your meal. I would avoid this restaurant now and hopefully they wake up one day and bring back the buffet.
Be the first to ReplyNice place for lunch and enjoying the beer options
stopped in for lunch and started out with pretzel nuggets and beer cheese dip. The dips were okay but was anticipating a more dense cheese for the dip. We ordered the flat brat grilled sandwich, which was vert tasty. The bahama mama platter, sausage had a slight spicy taste and the sauerkraut was like the old days, sour. The brat sandwich was also good. They have a selection of decadent desserts whihc really looked great.

I still think about Schmidt’s even after our trip. Excellent German food. Big menu with something for everyone to try and a really good selection of German style beers and cocktails.

We love a good weiner schnitzel, so we headed to Schmidt's on our recent trip through Columbus and we were not disappoitned. Our lederhosen-clad waiter was efficient and our food was very good.

Used to love the buffet. So sad it isn’t coming back. The food is very good but used to love being able to sample everything. 😢
