Earth Shaking Lunch (Literally)
I made the last minute decision to try the buffet during the last weekend. I queued up but did not have any number nor reservation so had to step off to the side after thy wrote down my name on the standby list. Luckily within ten to fifteen minutes I was admitted and seated. This was the afternoon sushi hour from 2:30 to 4:30pm. The map at the front of the restaurant was very helpful so I could plot my plan of attack given there were so many people already inside. I immediately headed to the sashimi line where they were cutting up sashimi per order. I was disappointed that there was no ahi, hamachi or salmon. Must be a dinner option only. While waiting the restaurant was hit with a lengthy small earthquake or after shock that made everyone stop and the sushi chefs hold on to their tables. Not sure what the magnitude was but no damage was caused and everyone reverted back to grabbing their food and eating. The nigiri was nicely laid out in pairs and the fish portions were decent thickness. They were fresh and I ate my fill. Boiled shrimp was another sushi line favorite with people filling plate after plate. The tempura line had fish, sweet potatoes and eggplant and stir fried dishes were located next. In the center there was miso soup, steamed egg and more cooked dishes. Cold drinks were self serve. Some desserts were self service while the refrigerated case was staffed and they handed out shot glasses that had been filled with mousses, panna cottas, etc. I think people must stay for the whole time as I ate my fill and was the first person to leave my area after about an hour. Total afternoon sushi was scheduled for 2 hours. Service was ok. Not much hot tea service but they did take away all my used dishes rather quickly.

The sushi selection is excellent and there are many very creative rolls. The tempura, grilled foods, and deserts are also excellent.
Be the first to ReplyHuge Canteen with lots of people and long queue
My wife and I had dinner at at ShinYeh Japanese Buffet. Although it is good value but the large crowd, long queue and environment had resulted in a generally poor restaurant experience. There were large parties making a lot of noise and everyone is rushing for food.

First, one needs to understand the "system," which is you "get a number," then get in line for the time allocated, then charge the service stations knowing that you are going to get pushed, shoved, and elbowed by all the other folks who were in the cue with you! And for all that "trouble," many/most of the food items were not identified in English, and about half of those which were had incorrect names -- as in "fried chicken" was "fried fish." The fresh sushi was very good, but was it worth the hassle? Probably not!
Be the first to Replyamazing food, wish they had english name cards for the buffet
The food was absolutely amazing. There was a massive sushi bar with really high quality fish, a whole dessert service with macarons and cakes, and more. I only wish they had English names for the buffet dishes (almost everything is written in Traditional Chinese). Sometimes I wasn't quite sure what I was eating, but it was good.
