Amazing! And not just the meat!
I visited here with a friend as I saw it was Michelin recommended. We wanted somewhere reasonably priced and high quality, and Smokestak did not disappoint! The vibe is quite an 'underground' vibe, dark and smoky. We were seated outside (this was fine, however we weren't offered a choice). It is just a short walk from Shoreditch High Street Station so accessible by public transport. The surrounding area is quite arty. Lots of Graffiti, which I enjoyed, but some diners may find off putting. The seats were quite close together, again, some people may not like this, but I was good with that. I would say its great for a meal with mates, probably not best for somewhere to have a heart to heart or intimate conversation. On to the food- wow! We ordered a range of dishes, all to be served at the same time and shared. The crispy beef fat and spring onion flatbread was an immense place to start- like pork scratching on bread. Yummy! The crispy Ox cheek was served as 3 croquettes, quite large. Nice serving of anchovy mayo on the side. The pastrami I expected to be thinner (like in the supermarket) but it was actually big bits of meat, served with pickles, mustard and dill. We ordered the brisket bun with pickled red chilli. We did take some of the chillis out as that was a bit overkill, but the quality of the meat, as with the pastrami and the ox cheek was incredible- melt in the mouth! We got 4 sides between the 2 of us, but to be honest they were very big, so there was some left at the end. Would have totally taken a doggy bag had I not been going on for a evening in the city! Skin on Chips with a big dollop of aioli was the perfect size of 2, the others were a little on the large side, but absolutely delicious- pickled red cabbage and mint slaw, raw broccoli, bacon, shallots and sultanas (was my personal favourite) and the really tasty grilled hispi cabbage, anchovy and garlic- incredible! Needless to say, we did not have room for dessert! I'm always impressed by a restaurant that serves an orange wine! A nice large glass at a very reasonable £9 topped off a top meal! Well done Smokestak. i don't often revisit restaurants (variety is the spice of life and all that!) but I have recommended it to family and friends, and shared on my foodie instagram!

Went here for a birthday dinner and the food was absolutely spectacular could not fault it! We had opted for outdoor seating which was very small tables and stools which wasn't ideal for eating a lot of food outside, there was also no shade from the sun so keep this in mind for the summer season! Everything we ordered was delicious, the ribs and pulled pork were our favourites but we were delighted with all of the food! The staff were lovely and friendly but it was very busy and the drinks orders were a little slow. The food came really quickly though! Indoors seemed really nice. We did get the wrong bill 3 times before being given the right one on the fourth time and the process of getting it right was really time consuming which was annoying and the only reason I am not giving 5 stars, it wouldn't put me off going back, mistakes happen and the staff were very nice about it, but wasn't how I wanted to spend my birthday.

Incredible meat (the brisket was soooo good) and sides (hispi cabbage divine) absolutely delicious too. Great service. Keep up the good work guys!

Its definitely the place to go if you are feeling a meat fest. The short ribs are better than the beef brisket, the pork belly is better than the short ribs. Skip the wings, they are really nothing special. The vegetables are all surprisingly delicious. Cocktails are delightful. The portions are sensible so you don't have to go with a crowd. The restaurant smells strongly of smoke, which is understandable and totally reasonable but not very comfortable. Eat and go.

Picked this after a bit of Googling the local area, and loved it, there wasn’t a bum note in anything we ordered. Braised ox cheek - delicious, Pestrami - lovely, Pita bread - I didn’t try! Chicken wings - so good, Brisket - amazing, pork belly - deffo highlight and pulled pork - moreish! Oh and mint in the slaw was a very nice touch. Waitress was lovely. Only thing, it’s busy! Lol

We really enjoyed our meal but I wouldn’t order the beef fat on flat bread again as it was pretty tasteless and not worth the money. Everything else I would eat 10 times over! The beef rib was incredible! The chairs outside are very small and uncomfortable.

I’ll start by saying Smokestak is clearly an excellent restaurant. The staff were attentive and friendly, the cocktails were out of this world (hint: don’t leave without trying an Amalfi sour) and the cod roe was perfectly smoked and delicious. But I was underwhelmed by their famous beef brisket, which was *sob* mostly quite dry. Once promised a “life changing” meal and brisket that will melt in your mouth, I left feeling somewhat disappointed. Please don’t make this a regular thing Smokestak. I’ve uploaded a picture of the brisket we had vs the brisket my brother had. 🙏

Amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough. Friendly staff and the best bbq I’ve ever eaten. It’s well worth a visit. We had beef ribs, brisket, jacket potato with rarebit, slaw and skin of fries. It was delicious.

Visited on Saturday for lunch with friends. Great experience. Service was fantastic. The young American lady who looked after us was outstanding. She had great banter and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb and I even remembered to thank the chefs for their food. Great ambiance with unique decor. If you love BBQ food you need to try this restaurant. Just brilliant.

I love smoked and BBQ food and this restaurant ticked all of the boxes for me and my group of friends despite the fact it was Sunday lunchtime and we all had hangovers!. Yes you can read the "terrible" reviews but most of them are around the height of the pandemic so just ignore them and book asap. The food was very tasty, the atmosphere authentic, decor - black steel and that smell of smoke as they open the huge commercial smoker in the restaurant was to die for! Waiters and bar staff were cool and professional with a great sense of humour! Will return when next in London

Second time for us, some of the food are nice, the ox check coquette, the brisket really tasty, short rib not so greate as quite cold and dry.
Drinks menu doesn't have the price of coke, why? Also service both time not good (we both work in Hospitality) and seriously a bit of effort would be nice.
We arrive and nothing, no hi nada, we seat noone explain that the menu is just with QR code, fine for us but you should defenetely tell that, noone ask for allergie never, ask for anchovies sauce on side specified that I don't like it and answer that was served on side (your servers should know that each of the coquette have some at the bottom to stick them on the plate)
Asked for still water recived tap water (if you don't have it, even if is writen on the menu you should tell straight away when people order it.
But also you should have still water/filter not everyone is happy to drink London tap water. Order another coke, nothing we had to ask twice. Just not a greate service all the time.. Basic things that don't make people come back.
Why did I wait so long??
I went to smokestack with my wife today for date night and we both throughly enjoyed it…
We don’t really eat a lot of meat and the menu is very meat focused.
But it was delicious and I would definitely recommend going.
Service was good and friendly.
Cocktails interesting and delicious
The food could be smelled half way down the road and the portions were not too big so we could try lots of different dishes .
Thank you smokestack for a lovely evening
Food 10/10 Service 1/10
The food is to die for. Pastrami is so melty light I nearly wept. The ox cheek just delicious and that’s just the starters. The pork belly was soooo slow cooked it literally fell down my throat. Highly rated the jacket potato but the table only needs 1! What really let smokestack down was it’s overly superior waiting staff, who seemed to think that they were doing us a favour by serving us. Left me feeling a bit pissed off and i didn’t want to pay the service charge. We did pay it assuming that the chef gets a share and the chef has magic hands 👩🏽🍳. To be fair I did mention my disappointment to another member of staff Angel, she apologised and said to come back again and to ask for her to wait our table.

I think this restaurant has become one of my favorites in London, I went for the first time last December, and until today I have been 4-5 times. Waiters are so friendly, George always remembers us when we arrive, we love being attended by him. Spectacular beef brisket and short rib. And always pigtails and ox cheek for starters!

Brilliant. Brisket was mouth watering, knife is unneeded due to how tender it was. Starters were delicious. Will be back soon

Not sure what else I can add, but I’ll give it a go. Absolutely wonderful place, amazing food. I’m sure everyone has their favourite and the Ox cheek is definitely up there, we also had the pulled pork bun, the aubergine and the baked potato with the mustard rarebit, oh my! We’ll certainly be trying to replicate this dish in our house! For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding, this one had a wonderful, smoky depth of flavour Service was fast, but great and the bill was so low, I thought they had made a mistake. Great evening, thank you.

We visit his place just for curiosity. We heard some opinions, the aesthetic looks cool and because I (vegetarian) could order something else apart from chips considering that it is a grill/bbq place.
WOW! I was very pleased with the vegetarian options. The beetroot with goat cheese was delightful, incredible. As main, I ordered the aubergine, very well presented, very tasty.
My partner, who is not vegetarian, really enjoyed his meat.
Not the cheapest place to eat but, because of the quality of the food, worth it.
Friendly and quick service, we will be back, for sure.
Disappointing
Such a disappointing experience! Whilst the flavours and food were promising the whole meal (apart from the chips) was cold ! We returned the pulled pork dish because it was truly horrible cold but the replacement was room temperature so equally unpleasant. According to the staff that’s how it’s meant to be! We were seated in the basement by the loos with poor service so overall not a happy experience. In an area of London which is packed full of great eateries we will certainly not be giving this place another chance !
