For (at least) 25 years, BBQ Baby Back Ribs were my death row, last meal, meal.Somehow during the pandemic those ribs lost first place to a 3 lb. New England lobster with drawn butter. I don't know how that happened, but it happened; that is, until tonight.Smoque's baby backs retook my death row meal.Smoque is this wildly popular very good BBQ restaurant in Irving Park. Their menu reads like any other Q joint that has chicken, ribs, brisket, pulled pork and sausage. The sides they offer really complement these dishes.The price of your protein gives you a cup of cole slaw and two other sides.This night my wife and I shared a full rack of baby backs, with brisket chili, baked beans and of course, slaw.Let's start off with the ribs:They were so damn good I actually rolled my eyes, at first bite. They had this perfect char on the outside and a juice packed inside like I've never had before! Oh, yeah, let's talk about my "before". I've had ribs in over 3 dozen states and Smoque definitely made my top 5 list. But, back to my ribs: Their sauce was an added treat along with the size of these beauties.I knew I wasn't going to leave this place hungry. The baked BBQ beans were wonderful. The cole slaw had a nice vinegar taste that neutralized the fat in the pork. But their brisket chili - Wow was it good. It was so good, I'm going to buy a gallon of it for Super Bowl Sunday next year. I'm well aware of the number of BBQ restaurants there are in Chicago. I know, because I've eaten at eight them and I haven't scratched the surface.But when I find BBQ this good, I don't have to look any further (in Chicago) than Smoque!
