Lovely setting and good food but very limited menu
The restaurant has a lovely authentic looking decor and an interesting food menu. The food was presented try nicely and was very good. My only issue is that the menu is extremely limited - not your typical Thai restaurant menu… don’t look for Pad Thai here. But we enjoyed the meal and the service was good.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding fish!
We visited at lunch time, but decided to go a la carte, rather than the set menu. This may have been a mistake in that the dishes we chose were perhaps not as well matched. Over all, it was a very pleasing experience. We started with some fried cashews, enlivened with some fried Makrut leaves, which was pleasant but average. Then came some chicken on skewers, with a spicy but delicious dip. Then the papaya salad arrived, which was magnificent but it was hot (and I thought I tolerate heat better than most!) The waitress kindly brought a complimentary drink to cool me down. We then had the fried sea bass which was the highlight of the meal. Wonderful! It came with a vegetarian green curry, which was underwhelming and frankly bland. I was expecting flavour fireworks but was disappointed. The venue appealed to us, and our Thai waitress was charming and looked after us very well!

Brilliant food and staff! Woyllas was the perfect host. And man, that seabass was out of this world. Cannot recomend this enough
Be the first to ReplyWe loved it
We went to the Som Saa after a beautiful day in Charlton. Woyllas lead us through the evening in an excellent manner. Perfect food and drinks. A friend of mine, who wasn’t very familiar with small dishes, is now barking like a dog, on all four, dressed in a AC Milan shirt from the eighties, with a hockey haircut (as we say in Norway), hoping to taste something similar in is hometown.
Be the first to ReplyReally good Thai food
We were looking for authentic Thai food in London and found this pleasant restaurant. The server (Davide) was very helpful and friendly. Went out of his way to accommodate a dairy intolerance. We took the suggested set menu and added the sea bass. Not cheap (like most good things in London) but well worth it!
Be the first to ReplyDon’t bring Scottish money!
The food was good, felt the menu was a bit small but the sea bass was delicious and worth the visit. Quite unimpressed with the refusal to take Scottish notes . TBH I would have just left given the option of Scottish money or no money but my wife, ever the diplomat, paid the bill.
Be the first to ReplyWORST hostess and manager
The WORST experience we had in London. The hostess sat us right next to the toilets and kitchen prep so the food was directly above our heads. We asked to be moved as we did not want to be next to the restroom. The staff was being really difficult with our request even though the restaurant was 90% empty and their excuses were extremely bizarre. First, they said there were reservations for the booths so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe those were requested beforehand. Then she claimed the booths were for bigger parties. And then again, she said the other tables had reservations as well so she wouldn’t move us. I brought up the fact that we also had reservations, but she just kept saying no. Since she mentioned the other table had a reservation in 2 1/2 hours, I asked if we could eat within an hour and leave. She had to ask her manager again and finally they obliged. I was a hostess before so I understand how seating arrangements work. It was odd the hostess kept saying she needed to check with her manager if it was ok to move us. Why does she need permission to do her own job? The whole situation was off-putting so I went to speak with the manager who immediately had an arrogant attitude. He said he already created a rotation of the seats so I left it at that. The food itself was nothing special. Salty and overpriced. The only decent item on the menu was the fried fish. During our meal, we saw another party of 3 (white) that was seated then requested to be moved to the booth. The hostess immediately moved them to the booth when she previously told us the booth was for bigger parties. At this point I realized the manager and hostess discriminated against us for whatever reason. I had to say something to the manager on my way out and again, instead of apologizing he tried to give more excuses with his arrogant attitude. Not sure how he is in the hospitality industry, but he needs a lesson in customer service and restaurant etiquette. I’ve never been treated this way over such a simple request and am disgusted by how the manager handled the situation especially in front of my family including my mother who is a senior citizen. My mom was the one who was most upset in the beginning and I tried to calm her down, but as I saw how they gave preferential treatment to other guests I could not stay silent. And fyi, by the time we left, the restaurant was still 70% empty. Shame on you. There are SO many good restaurants in London with great food and service to match. Definitely do NOT recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent customer service.
Very good thai food and absolutely excellent customer service. Nice location and kind staff. I can recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous aromas and flavours. An experience !
This restaurant is an experience. We had the set menu with the sea bass extra. The first dishes were light and perfectly presented and packed with flavour. The following courses did not disappoint, flavour overload - lemongrass, nam pla, soy … Definitely one for your bucket list!!
Be the first to ReplyDon’t go!
The food was okay. The server and the service were not. We couldn’t understand her and how their menu worked. We got three things we didn’t think we ordered and didn’t get one thing we thought we did order. She initially said the gratuity was not optional but then said it was. It wasn’t worth the time it would have taken to get corrected. Apparently there’s no manager on duty.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming. £3.50 can of coke!
Really disappointed. We went a few years ago but it seems things have changed since. The menu is very limited - there are only about 5 main dishes you can chose - veggie, chicken, a fish option or pork only. Hardly any meat in the curry. Rip-off prices - a luke warm can coke of coke costs £3.50!!! A charity donation is automatically included in the bill without asking. Much better Thai places than here.
Be the first to ReplySuper tasty food and great atmosphere!
Very welcoming and superb service. Menu recommendations were spot-on and all staff were extremely friendly and professional.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Thai meal, explosion of tastes.
One of the best Thai meals we’ve had in a long time. Caitlin the waitress was very helpful in explaining the various dishes being served. Decided on the taster menu to experience several dishes. All of the dishes were superb, an explosion of various tastes and textures and difficult to pick which one was our favourite. Lovely evening and highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyPuts most Thai restaurants to shame. Very Good to Excellent. A must visit.
Casual ambience. Young clientele and young friendly servers. Food very good to excellent. Had the set menu at £38. Delicious and generous. If I had to pick fault - and it is not easy to do so - I would say that the red curry of sirloin was a little underpowered and needed a touch more depth. Also the greens accompanying were perhaps a tiny bit overcooked. However my view divided opinion. Desserts excellent. Will definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplySolo lunch deals great - but hidden costs
You only need to walk past to smell the food and almost (weather aside) be back in Bangkok. I stopped here for a solo lunch and was most impressed that they offer some dishes as a single portion at a reduced price but sadly not the stir fry greens which really bumped my lunch cost up (i do wonder what would have happened had I been a veggie?) - in fact it almost doubled it! The fact they do not charge for water in London is a BIG PLUS - it was lunch so I did not have any alcohol. So £25 for a half portion of trout curry, stir fry greens and jasmine rice is a little high and this is why I have not given it a score of 5. But, the quality of the food and level of service could not be faulted.
Be the first to ReplyNothing authentic, Not even the decor
Possibly the worst thai food ever, not sure what the Fuss is all about. Menu was very underwhelming, service was average prices were sky high taste was not authentic. The set menu is a rip-off,Had to pay full price for two kids under the age of six Then only get give three chicken satay sticks for 3 adults and 2 kids, waiter advised it would be enough for the entire table, clearly not! Would I visit again probably not! not worth £160 We spent. I am very surprised at reviews claiming this is authentic thai,It is far from it!
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Thai
Absolutely loved the food here! The servers were very friendly and made sure we were well looked after. Our waitress gave us some great recommendations for food.
The food is very authentic Thai - you don’t get the typical pad Thai, green curry dishes that you may be more familiar with.
We ordered 4 plates to share between 2 - I think 3 plates would have been enough.
Everything was delicious but quite spicy so make sure you specify that you can’t handle spice if you are sensitive to it.
I personally loved everything!
A very salty fish
The place is nice, the staff is friendly. The food looks amazing and the smell make you want to eat everything. The drinks price is really reasonable ir even cheaper considering most cocktails are £9 (£10 with service) and usually in London restaurants you will never get this prices. For us the main issue was we order the seabass as it looks like amazing, but it was so unbelievable salt that the flavour got a bit lost. We mixed rice and also our pork dish together to be able to eat. I never drunk so much water with a meal. When the bill came, we explained to the waiter, he just came back and let us know that this was the normal. When the hostess came to our table we mentioned the same, and he apologised said it is not how should be, we had already paid the bill so we couldn’t get a refund (he would had removed it from the bill), we said we mentioned to the other person. He offered shots but we were already to full. Maybe in another chance I would give 10 but unfortunately the fish really didn’t helped.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food shame about the cocktails.
We’ve visited several times & always enjoy the food, set menu really good selection of dishes, generous & tasty with great spice..salads are interesting & get the tastebuds tingling, seabass to die for
The only weakness I find is the drinks selection,I’ve been so underwhelmed with every cocktail or wine accompanying the food & feel like there needs to be a bit more attention to this as sometimes we’d chose another restaurant knowing there’s a great cocktail & drinks selection to enjoy.
Delicious, authentic Thai food and awesome cockails
We visited Som Saa for lunch on Sunday and had such a great time. We chose the set menu for the two of us and opted to include the whole sea bass too. There was so much food and all of it was delicious. We've been lucky enough to visit Thailand many times and this restaurant really gave us the taste and sense of that beautiful country. We also tried a couple of cocktails which were great too. The caramelised banana for desert was out of this world!
Be the first to ReplyBetter than most Thai’s but wouldn’t return
We heard about Som Saa’s good reputation a while ago so visited while we were in London. The menu choices were different: trout, offal, etc so this limited our order significantly due to our preferences. The food we ordered was tasty and we loved the cocktails we ordered. It was a lovely atmosphere and the service was friendly. It was good but I wouldn’t return.

This was apparently touted as the best Thai food in London a few years ago. Now it’s OK, underpowered and with none of the excitement we hoped for. Thai food should be finely balanced with flavours revealed as it is eaten, some sweet, some sour, some salty, some sneaking out to punch you when you least expect it. The only thing that punched us here was the bill which was hefty for a rather ordinary meal.
Be the first to ReplyTasty Thai food
We opted for the tasting menu and all the dishes were delicious! Everything was full of flavour and portion sizes were larger than expected. The papaya salad was full of spice and the beef curry was juicy and tender. The non alcoholic drinks menu was also very varied and unique. Would definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic experience, highly recommend
We had a group Christmas dinner at Somsaa. The food was incredible and service was outstanding. We couldn't fault it. Had a wonderful time and highly recommend to others!

Food was quite flavoursome and service was very helpful, accommodating and friendly. However, portions were slightly on the small side. 6.5/10
