Sorella San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year

16.2024 (sooo late post) I made a reservation for my husband's birthday. He wanted to try a new spot and after some research we chose this place. The hostess was super nice, wished my husband a happy birthday and sat us in a booth overseeing the restaurant. Super cool! The waitress took note of my allergy and the kitchen staff were amazingly accommodating which is absolutely amazing! We ordered: -Steamed mussels; no cheese and substituted the sauce with a white wine based one. The freshness of the mussels shined through the fatty and salty taste of the ham. Absolutely delicious! -Saffron Corzetti; the lobster was cooked perfectly. The sweetness of the lobster complimented the herbs and pasta perfectly! A very light and fresh dish. I completely forgot the name of the beef dish ordered. But it was yummy. The dish was a little heavier. But flavorful. The desserts were not overly sweet and completed the meal. I will be back!
Came here to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend and
Came here to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend and it was quite disappointing. A year ago we came here for the first time and we absolutely loved it. The ricotta strangulet was some of the best pasta I've ever had but when we went it tasted nothing like how we remembered. The sauce was super watery with no flavor and the pine nuts didn't stand out like last year. Was really bland and didn't taste that good. We also ordered the egg yolk tonnarelli but the server misheard and gave us the corn agnolotti which had a piece of hair in it. She offered to give us a fresh dish but we didn't need that much food. At the end I realized it wasn't what we ordered and when I told the server she said that the egg yolk tonnarelli was sold out for the night and misheard what we ordered. She gave us dessert for free but the affogato was sour so it wasn't even worth it. I would say the hostess was very nice and offered us free bubbly at the end when we told her about our disappointing experience but we had plans after so we couldn't stay longer. Maybe we caught them on an off day but I don't think we will be returning for a while.
Portions were really small relative to the price points.
Usually we order 3 pasta dishes between two people as a benchmark but it was nowhere near enough here
What a night.
.. the server Johnny, was amazing. I couldn't have asked for anyone better. He was attentive, and came with a great sense of humor. Great hire and it would be a shame if y'all ever gave him up. Keep in mind this was my first time here and what an impression he left on my family, will be back soon again. Thank you Johnny and thank you Sorella.
Kinda confused on the high ratings here.
.. Went for a friend's birthday and the drinks were pretty good. Waited over 40-45 minutes for our food & noticed everyone in the restaurant also didn't have their food yet? When the food came out (we all ordered pastas) it was kinda disappointing. The food portions are small, flavor was mild and super high prices for what it is.. the restaurant does have a nice ambiance on the inside.
Had this place on my list and finally decided to go.
Nice ambiance, simple but warming decor. Good selection of cocktails based on amaros which I really appreciated. I got the Non your nonna's spritz. Fantastic, the peppercorns and rosemary gave it an extra I really enjoyed. The potato and leek focaccia. Couldn't taste the leek. I guess it was made with potato cornstarch. Normal focaccia, nothing special about it. Artichoke and Stracciatella. A yummy veggie garden too pretty to eat. I was expecting more artichokes but still enjoyed it. Drunken Mafaldine. Pasta was cooked al dente. Tasty sauce. For dessert, I had the warm Almond torta with Torrone ice cream. Strawberries in the center, nice surprise. Only found it a little bit sweet for my taste and needed more Mint leaves to balance it but it was delicious. Also, maybe I felt it like that because of my drink. I tried the buttermilk Pannacotta my partner ordered. Silky, made with vanilla beans. Strawberries not too sweet. I found the crumble too salty. I will never understand why Americans love salt in their desserts haha. The restroom is BEAUTIFUL and super clean. It has a fancy liquid soap and wallpaper with oranges, lemons and birds. Service was efficient and nice. Very welcoming. I'm glad I gave it a try.
Date of Visit: 4/24/2024 Finally got the chance to visit
Date of Visit: 4/24/2024 Finally got the chance to visit Sorella located on Polk and Washington Street! There are many restaurants and bars in the area, and also some cute bakeries and cafes too! Our reservation is on a Wednesday evening at around 6:15pm, and by the time we got there, there is still $1 Happy Hour at the bar! We ordered 1 dozen oysters to share among the four of us. After the oyster happy hour, we were sat at the table for dinner. Moris Farms, Morellino di Scansano Riserva 2011 $77 I picked the 2011 Italian red wine, with mostly Sangiovese, and a blend of Cabernet and Merlot. The tannin and structure were subtle, which was a nice wine to pair with seafood and spaghetti. Scallop Crudo $21 The scallop crudo was seasoned with Asian pear, Buddhas hand, and lime. Very refreshing! Warm Parmesan Budino $20 The cute egg yolk pudding with truffle-hazelnut vinaigrette, and asparagus on the side was good too! Grilled Asparagus $18 For the vegetable, we got the grilled asparagus. It was topped with pickled ramp gribiche and crispy garlic breadcrumb. Egg Yolk Tonnarelli $38 This is my favorite dish of the night! Tonnarelli mixed with egg yolk sauce and sansho pepper, on top there were fresh Santa Barbara sea urchin and salmon roe. Drunken Mafaldine $32 The Mafaldine and beef cheek ragú braised in red wine, and with burrata on the top was great too! Superior Lamb Porterhouse $48 For the main course, we ordered the medium rare lamb porterhouse. On top there were roasted pepper-walnut sauce and olive tape-nade. And on the side was decorated with some crispy marble potatoes. Che Bello $21 Before dessert, we ordered this cocktail that was made with bourbon, aperol, and vecchio amaro del capo. Mixed with angostura amaro, lemon, and egg whites on top. Overall it is very tart with texture, Paired well with tiramisu! Malted Tiramisu $15 For dessert of the night, we picked the malted tiramisu with espresso genoise, malted chocolate, and mascarpone mousse. Creamy and Yummy too!
Pasta portions are ridiculously small.
Asked the waiter for a recommendation and he described a dish as 'rich' and when it arrived it had shellfish which I don't eat (thank goodness I don't have an allergy or it might have been a night in ER). I sent the dish back explaining that I didn't know this had shellfish and the waiter took a very combative attitude and still tried to charge us for the dish.
I recently visited Sorella, an Italian restaurant focused
I recently visited Sorella, an Italian restaurant focused on pasta, and my experience was mixed. While the pasta was good, it was also quite pricey, and didn't quite live up to the best pasta I've had. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, with a cozy and intimate feel, and the service was friendly and attentive. The menu was focused on pasta dishes, with a variety of options available, but I felt like the offerings were somewhat limited. The pasta itself was good but I didn't find it to be exceptional or standout in any particular way. Additionally, the prices were on the high side for the portion sizes offered. While the food was good overall, I couldn't help feeling like there were other Italian restaurants in the area that offered more value for the money. It's worth a visit, but there are better options out there.
Pretty mediocre for the price.
Also found hair in my food. Staff was rude--there are better Italian restaurants on Polk
