Southbound Charleston Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent experience!
Excellent experience. We had a group of 11 & they were very accommodating. Our tables were not ready when we arrived, so they kindly made room for us at the bar for us to have cocktails. We had a ball! We had 2 table beside each other in the back, which was perfect for our large group. James was incredible and handled our fun group with flare! Food was amazing and service was excellent. We will definitely recommend Southbound to others and hopefully return soon!
Great food.
And great drinks. Bring your wallet, it is a bit pricey. Servers and bartenders are very friendly.
Great food terrible execution
Incredible food terrible execution. Joined our local Charleston friends for a warm night dinner here. Showed up for a 730 reservation, seated at 8 pm and food showed up by 10 pm. Staff apologized at every step of the meal for slow food and drink delivery and comped us drinks and apps which was nice but most patrons not happy as they waited or left the restaurant. Go here but be prepared to wait a while for everything
I honestly expected more when I dined at southbound.
I will start with the pros. Pros: - service was great. The hostess, waitress, and bartender were fantastic. - the atmosphere. Perfect for a date night. - the drinks - blankets were available if you are sitting outside and get chilly. Cons - our main entree took 35 minutes - price point was too high for quality of food. - All of the food had that firewood burnt taste, it drowned out the rest of the flavors. (Pork, potatoes, chicken, peppers) - our desserts that we got to go were different from what we ordered. (Only noticed when we left)

I rarely leave reviews but Southbound absolutely deserves a positive one. I took my girlfriend for her birthday and we were blown away by the experience. From the moment we got there, we were greeted on the porch with a glass of champagne and she received a rose. The meal was superb - the rabbit gnocchi, octopus, and duck were incredible. After we finished the meal, they came over with a personalised birthday card for her and because she's allergic to eggs and couldn't eat the desserts, they brought her a little homemade chocolate treat to enjoy. Aside from the incredible experience, the restaurant is gorgeous, and the wait staff are all so lovely and attentive. Would very much recommend if you're looking for a special meal in the area. Will be back again next time we visit!
Wow! What an experience.
Impeccable service, atmosphere, people, and food. My party got the steak tartare and crab dumplings to start, which were both delish. We then got the duck, tilefish, and poulet rouge paired with the Mexican street peppers and bok choy. For dessert with got the chocolate mousse cake. Phenomenal - all of it. Not even mentioning the cocktails we got were great. Not an experience you're going to get everywhere.

my group came for a birthday celebration they greeted us with champagne and we had an amazing experience with so many different flavors, over the top amazing service and delicious drinks. 10/10 would recommend to everyone!
Delicious meal in a cozy settling.
My husband and I dined here during our trip to Charleston. We enjoyed every bite and every interaction that we had with staff. There are several different options for seating, so be sure to check out their website for descriptions of what each area entails. I would recommend the second floor dining room for a quiet and secluded experience. If the weather is nice, try a porch swing or the patio. I highly recommend this restaurant for a tasty intimate experience.

We loved this meal! Our service was amazing, the waiter made great suggestions to help guide us to a perfect meal. We sat on the back balcony which was very private & comfortable. We're actually returning in a month to take my in-laws here!

Had a lovely a romantic and elegant date night at Southbound. The weather was a little chilly and I was nervous about the outdoor porch swing seat, but Southbound had a tasteful outdoor covering and heaters that made the space so cozy. I even took my jacket off! Food and service were incredible and I'm excited to go back!
I had one of the best restaurant experiences of my life at
I had one of the best restaurant experiences of my life at Southbound. Southern hospitality and fine dining in cozy house. Greeted by a super kind gentleman and offered a toast to celebrate the reason for our visit. All staff we warm and kind, even the ones that cleared our plates or brought the food. Our server was informative, patient, and attentive. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The only thing I would change would be for there to be more honey on the cheese plate. Favorites were the steak tartar and the bok choy, which was like a warm caesar salad. Definitely go and indulge and feel taken care of.
Comfortable expression of Charleston
In a town with fabulous restaurants and knowing that the reviews of Southbound have been glowing, it was ok. Did Chef's table. Drinks were good and the wine selection was very good. Food was solid but not spectacular. Highlights were the bok choy and dessert. Would recommend to just try it, but there are better places.
Tasty food but was not hot.
First of all this review deserves 5 stars, but I will get to that in a minute. Beautifully restored building. Great service. Food was very tasty. Cocktails on point. We ordered the Crab appetizer, which was very tasty. More to come. My wife ordered the pork chop which was very good, I ordered the ribeye and enjoyed it. Side Brussels Sprouts on the side. All had very good flavors but was only lukewarm. We didn't complain because we were just happy to be there and didn't want to wait for the food to be brought back out. We will be back, maybe sit at the chef's bar.
Wonderful!
Wonderful location, wonderful service, wonderful food. All in all just a perfect evening! As well as a great bottle of wine. The mains are pretty big so be aware. Each of us had a starter, a main and a separate side - in the end we didn't have any space for dessert...
Tacky credit card charges.
Overall, a great experience, unfortunately soured by the tacky credit card charge move some businesses are choosing to do. When I get a bill you don't put on there the electric bill charge or the housekeeping charge, so be smart and just bake the credit card charges into the cost of doing business. Few people are rolling around with several hundred dollar bills in their wallets to drop on dinner, which is what can be spent easily at this establishment. We visit Charleston annually, and we won't be returning here. It's a tacky move and just a really off putting way to end the meal.
What a truly pleasant experience!
We had dinner here for the first time and loved everything. The food (fish, meat) was excellent, the staff extremely professional and nice and the place a little hidden gem. Very enjoyable evening at this place. We will come back for sure ...
SouthBound
Excellent place. First time there. From the moment we arrived we were celebrating our anniversary. I was greeted with a rose and a glass of champagne. Our server John was on point. we ordered the Sous Vide octopus then I had the duck breast and my husband had the pork chops special. There was a chocolate covered Oreo with a candle and a personalized card for our anniversary congratulating us then we had the sweet potato pudding, which was out of this world. The staff is the best staff from the time we entered until the time we left that I have ever encountered in a restaurant. If in Charleston, I highly recommend this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.
Absolute perfection
I am still struggling for words after the incredible experience we had at this restaurant tonight. From the warm greeting by the hostess, to the perfect timing and attention of our waiter, to our view of three masters creating an indescribable menu before our eyes, I cannot overstate how much I wish there were more than 5 stars to offer this restaurant. The chefs are individual artists and members of a finely tuned team. This is the kind of place where you trust the chef's decisions and don't try to tweak a thing. They know exactly what they are doing, and the heart and effort in designing and executing each day's menus is so very obvious. The preparation is perfect. The visual artistry is so appealing. The flavor and texture combinations are inspired. Bravo to every single person who contributes to this unforgettable dining experience.
Favorite Restaurant in Charleston
Such a wonderful experience. Everything about the evening was perfect from our arrival to our departure. We were warmly welcomed and seated as soon as our table was available (no more than 5 minutes, pleasantly spent at the bar). Food was absolutely fantastic and the changing menu means that one can come back frequently. Service was attentive without hovering. In every way our current favorite on Charleston.
A True Southern Gem
Wow. We loved this place. We arrived and were pleased to see Southbound was a beautiful house with an outdoor garden and porch dining as well as a great vibe inside. We headed upstairs to the bar area for a drink before sitting down to dinner. Once our table was ready (we sat outside on the front porch) we headed downstairs. Our waiter was fantastic - we loved where we sat and the food was excellent. My husband actually ordered the rib eye and didn't realize the steak would be covered in sauce - the waiter took it right back without question and the chef remade it without sauce. Very nice way to go about the whole thing. We really enjoyed our evening and were thrilled we chose Southbound as one of our two dinner restaurants. Would most definitely recommend and would definitely return. Amazing night.
