Very good but slightly overpriced wine and missing tablecloths
We had a dinner here. Stirrups is the upscale restaurant in the main hotel, the Equestrian Hotel. Service was very good. Our only complaints? The hostess couldn't lift her head off the computer screen at check-in to acknowledge us with eye contact nor did she pull out the chair from the table when seating us. The waitress and her assistant were equally very good. A couple minor things they didn't do. We had to refill our own wine glasses from the bottle that was ordered. We were also never offered dessert or coffee after dinner. The food was also very good. From quality to preparation to portion size to presentation. One minor issue was the shrimp cocktail. It had some sort of spice seasoning on it. That was not listed on the menu. I think it ruined the shrimp cocktail. I would also consider changing the presentation of the shrimp cocktail. The bowl it is served in takes up a lot of table space, especially if there are multiple appetizers/first courses. I also would have liked for the shrimp cocktail to be served on dry ice, creating a little bit of a "wow" like Truluck's. The wine list has to be one of the largest wine lists in central Florida outside Orlando and Tampa. With that said, the list was very heavy on red wine and a little light on white wine. In terms of white wine, the list was almost exclusively California whites and European whites. Nothing else. We thought there might be some more New World whites. Virginia chardonnay and viognier, New York riesling, South African chenin blanc, Australian riesling, etc. All of that was missing. We thought the wine list could be better presented than in plastic sleeves. That felt a little cheap. But our big issue was the pricing. Yes, it's a 5-star hotel. Yes, it's a high-end restaurant. But the prices on the wine list were overpriced. The hotel is in Ocala. $38 for a glass of non-vintage Veuve Clicquot is outrageous even by Miami or New York standards. Same for Decoy chardonnay at $18. A bottle of Decoy is $13-$17 at most stores. Most restaurants would price a glass of Decoy at $9-$12. A bottle of G.H. Mumm for $140. That's about $20 overpriced. We thought the atmosphere could be improved. The lights could be turned down a little, the music could be improved (ideally a live piano player), and there should be white tablecloths. At the price point of the restaurant, you expect tablecloths. On the whole, all things considered, Stirrups was very good. We would consider returning.

I had the pleasure of dining at Stirrups twice and was thoroughly impressed each time. The restaurant offers a stunning interior and the option for al fresco dining with views of the outdoor arena. The cuisine was exceptional; the salmon I enjoyed on the first night was the best I've ever had, while the shrimp and grits on the second night introduced me to a delightful new combination of smooth, creamy textures with just the right amount of cheese. Even though I skipped dessert, the tempting creations enjoyed by my friends looked divine. Our server, River, provided impeccable service, always anticipating our needs. My only regret is that Stirrups is a 3-hour flight away from me; otherwise, I'd be a regular!
Be the first to ReplyFINE Dining For Sure. Great Servers, Too!
Breakfast favorites of mine included granola parfait, banana nut bread, thick-cut smoked bacon, and sliced avacado. Kudos to Laquay who served our group with kindness and grace. Dinner favorites of mine included the crab cake and onion rings. Kudos to River who made us all smile. Stirrups is truly a FINE dining experience.

Fine dining with fabulous service every time at Stirrups. The perfectly seasoned filet melts in your mouth. Pair it with the succulent lobster tail dipped in melted butter. It was a match made in heaven, or at least on my plate. Save room for a sweet treat from the dessert menu. It wasn't just a meal; it was a divine dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyA delicious treat at breakfast or dinner!
I've stayed at The Equestrian Hotel twice (once in 2024 and once in 2023), and I've had the pleasure of having dinner at Stirrups three times and breakfast four times. Every meal has been perfect, from the food to the service. I had the beef tenderloin for dinner every time, because it was so good the first time, I couldn't imagine getting anything else. It's perfectly charred on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside. I'm also a big fan of the whiskey peppercorn sauce. I've tried the garlic parmesan fries and cheesy grits as sides and loved both. They also offer a bread service where you can choose from 4-5 different choices. I'm obsessed with the cheese and scallion biscuits - delicious! Breakfast is also fantastic. I've had eggs, bacon, toast, biscuits, and the yogurt parfait in different combinations over my multiple visits. The bacon is something I will be dreaming about for some time - possibly the best I've ever had anywhere. A friend with me this last trip had the croissant sandwich and it was HUGE. All the breads and pastries at this restaurant are fantastic thanks to the French bakery on site. Our service has been great for every meal. I have to shout out River, who served our large business group at dinner twice this past trip. He was fantastic (which is why we asked for him the second night)! Highly recommend Stirrups and can't wait to go back again!
Be the first to ReplyValentine’s Day 2024 Dinner Fiasco
Worst dining experience ever at Stirrups at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, FL. And it was Valentine’s Day. What a $400 disaster! We had an 8:00 pm reservation. Checked-in and got seated shortly thereafter. It was the last good thing to happen to us. The menu for this romantic evening was not the regular menu full of wonderful meat and side-dish choices that we have enjoyed several times a year for the past three years since moving to Ocala, but a pre-selected multi-course menu with the only choice of beef tenderloin or flounder for the main course. It took about 10 minutes to get water, another 10 minutes to order our adult beverages and about 10 more minutes to arrive at the table. Meanwhile, we made our choice of dinner rolls and butter. It is now about 30 minutes in from getting seated. About 15 minutes later, the first course of 2 oysters arrived. After giving us some time to not eat our oysters (because we don’t like them) they got cleared away. Another 15 minutes later, the second course arrived…the squash ravioli was quite good. This was cleared away. Another 15 minutes and the third course salad arrived. We ate most of it and they cleared the table. We continued to wait, and now approaching two hours into our dining experience the waitress arrives with one steak knife and tells us our main course will be out shortly. We wait some more, and out of nowhere, a manager is at our table pouring wine into new glasses that we did not order. Nothing was said by him or our waitress. They step away and we catch the waitress a couple of minutes later to let her know we have been there way too long, we need to leave, and requested she pack up our main courses and bring the check. She says no problem and heads into the kitchen. Then our main courses arrived at our table all plated and ready to eat. Huh??? We explained that our food was to be boxed up and the food runner did a U-turn back to the kitchen. About 5 minutes later we got two bags of food, paid our bill, and quickly left the premises. The total for this experience came to $391. The pre-selected menu was extremely pricey at $125 per person plus gratuity and taxes. Our beverages (a glass of wine and a cocktail) were an additional $58, which was expected. We will not be going back for a very long time, if ever. We will, however, not forget this very memorable Valentine’s Day dining experience. But wait, there’s more!!! We stopped at McDonald’s on the way home. Best large fries ever!!!
Be the first to ReplyAverage but convenient if staying at hotel
Except for our waiter who was friendly and efficient our experience was at best average. The venue itself is a nouveau riche gigantic canteen restaurant. The menu is quite expensive for the quality offered. I had a flavorless burger: basically Pattie bun and rest didn’t blend in which is hard to achieve! Truffle pasta was basically cooked with truffle oil. In summary an average culinary evening to be fair.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful surprise!
As new residents of Ocala, we have been searching for some fine dining options like we were used to back in South Florida. That was a mostly fruitless search (with the exception of La Cuisine) until we were welcomed at The Equestrian Hotel and its restaurant Stirrups. The whole experience far exceeded our expectations and we are still talking about how spectacular the meal and over all service was. What a wonderful and unexpected surprise to experience this in our new city! It’s one thing to have amazing food but the service to compliment the experience is rare in South Florida - I have noticed a difference here in Ocala as people seem to enjoy their jobs more here. We felt so comfortable in the restaurant with the choices and variety of the menu. My husband has said multiple times that the 22oz Rib eye that we shared was one of the best steaks he’s had, period. The sides were generous and delicious. We also truly appreciated the kitchen splitting the salad and slicing and dividing the steak. It’s those small efforts that really make the whole experience for people. Bravo to the Roberts family for changing the face of Ocala in placing The World Equestrian center there. I also know from our conversation that the best is yet to come! I’m excited that in calling Ocala our home now, we will get to see the improvements in real time.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Food, Exceptional Service
We had an incredible time at Stirrups! Our family was visiting for 2 weeks and we had breakfast daily and a grand arena view dinner at Stirrups. Jonathan gave us exceptional service, recommending delicious wines and the wait staff was amazing. Thank you to everyone who made our experience so wonderful and we highly recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyLovely restaurant in every way
What a gem! Restaurant is beautiful; food and service are superb! Laura was our server and she was a real delight! Not only was she an excellent server, but she was knowledgeable about WEC and all it had to offer. We will definitely be back, and we hope to have Laura again as our server.
Be the first to ReplyDelectable dining experience with a surprise ending
Impeccable service provided by our head server Hailey and her helpers, including Moody. We enjoyed conversation and laughs with the general manager Jeremy and his assistant Gia. Never once did we feel rushed or like we were “just another table”. Food was delicious and portion sizes enormous. My husband and I both had enough left over for dinner the following evening. The blueberry compote is a gustatory delight to the already delicious bread offerings and we were pleasantly surprised with complimentary desserts at the end of our dinner thanks to Jeremy and Gia. We will definitely make a trip back to Ocala just to dine at Stirrups and stay in the luxurious accommodations at The Equestrian Hotel.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Taking a friend to dinner, she requested Stirrups. We arrived at 5:30 so as to beat the crowd. Upon review of the menu, drinks were ordered along with appetizers. We knew prices were going to be on the high side as being a "5 star" restaurant specializing in steak entrees was ok. My crab cake was excellent as was the shrimp cocktail. The fried green tomatoes ordered by our guest were sliced too thick and several were not cooked properly. By now we had ordered our entrees and my wife has a dietary issue with extreme dairy allergy so no butter was to be used on her rib eye. Our guest and I ordered the Kansas City Strip. About 30 minutes had passed, and the manager said the chef inadvertently used butter and my wife's rib eye and they were preparing a new one. Twenty five minutes later the three entrees showed up. Our Kansas City strip entrees were warm on arrival, but being hungry after a long wait went ahead and ate. The rib eye was so tough the steak knife wasn't able to cut it! The manager immediately apologized and a NY strip was ordered. He was very genuine about the apology and without asking, he offered to not charge for her meal as well as free coffee and desert. The NY strip was excellent. That said, while we were waiting myself and guest slowly ate our steaks so as to allow the three of us to finish our meals together they were basically cold. As someone who traveled on business around the country I have experienced high end steak houses and restaurants. Sadly this was a very disappointing meal that lasted three hours! $350.00, should have been a WOW factor not a below average meal.

We are staying at the hotel which has had service hiccups so I rated it a 3, but Stirrups fully deserves a 5. We hosted a dinner party for 6 last night. Very pricey but we we’re celebrating and went all out on the food and wine. Amazing fried green tomatoes, boiled eggs. I had a terrific steak and the creamed corn and asparagus. Everyone shared the sides family style so I also tasted the mashed potatoes (addictive), Mac n cheese and spinach - it was delish, beautifully presented and well served. There is a big wine list and we splurged. They packed up all our food leftovers (we drank the 🍷) and we sent it home with a horse trainer who has two teenage sons. The portions are generous you could really split the side and the steaks are huge. Great experience. Went back for breakfast and had the crab Benedict. Perfecto.

We went to Stirrups for the first time a few months after it had opened, and found it lacking. They were trying hard, but the service was disjointed, the food was OK, and it was very expensive. Overall pretty disappointing. But, we live close and decided to give it another try. Happy to report they have really upped their game. The service was first class, the food was outstanding, and overall it was so much better. We were glad that we tried it again, and will definitely be back. Highly recommend making a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in the State of FLorida
We went for dinner with friends and were delighted with the service, the food and the atmosphere of this restaurant. Our servers were young and extremely well trained. Hallie was our server and Manny was our bus boy. We were explicitly told that the quantiles were large and shareable. Since we were a party of 4, we did share some of the items as appetizers. My husband & I shared the 32-ounce dry aged porterhouse. Don't think we've ever had a better porterhouse anywhere we've been before. It seemed expensive, but we basically had 4 meals out of it, so it was not expensive at all. ON top of perfect service and food, the entire hotel in which this wonderful restaurant is located was totally decorated beyond belief for Christmas. We were overwhelmed and are planning on returning with other friends as well before the end of the year. I totally recommend going to Stirrups, even if it's out of your way, It's so worth the trip. Make sure you don't miss out on going here.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre
I expected this restaurant to be top-notch and it wasn't. The dining room decor was beautiful but also quite sterile, but as the chairs were comfortable I was happy. We went for Sunday brunch and the food was not good, from the extremely undercooked poached eggs to the undercooked asparagus and rancid-tasting ham. My meal was lukewarm, not the way eggs benedict should be served. The hollandaise sauce was good but that's about "it". My friend ordered a side of potatoes and the waiter (after being reminded twice) brought them when the table had finished eating. This restaurant needs to improve food and service if it wants to maintain its (albeit new) good reputation.

Wow! What a fabulous experience! We had dinner and brunch here. All the food was beautiful and tasted equally amazing. I can’t remember when I’ve had a better dining experience. The service was impeccable.

Third time to dine at Stirrups. First two times were perfection in food and service. This time there was decline in both food and service -- still very good but fallen in both categories. Service seemed rushed, less confident and not as food knowledgable. Food has lost some its shine although well prepared, it has lost an extra touch in presentation.

We loved both our breakfast and dinner! The attention to detail, the service and quality of the menu will keep us returning for years to come. I love that Kevin, our dinner waiter, wanted to celebrate our special event (which was as simple as moving our son into his college apartment), how awesome was that! But everything was truly impressive from the wine, to our appetizers, salads and soups, which were definitely unique and prepared in a style to impress. My husbands filet was melt in your mouth. But even the tiny details like whipped butter and fresh blueberry preserves for the fresh bread… just perfect! I absolutely love that you can watch the horse shows from the restaurant and we will have to return for one next time! Oh and the artwork… you love horses sure, but the artwork includes the dog lovers too!

We went for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and not overcrowded. The food was delicious, especially the dessert! The butterscotch bread pudding was incredible.
