Cozy location, delicious food and great customer service!
A beautiful little spot with delicious food and exceptional customer service. While visiting Sweden for study I found this little spot after a search online and I’m so glad I did. The food was absolutely delicious, the place was cozy and the customer service was outstanding. Definitely worth the visit. I found arriving earlier was less of a wait for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyNice choice!
Small traditional shop in the old town with nice classic Swedish cuisine. The owners are particularly friendly with humor and impeccable service. Reservations are not possible and there is a long wait around six o'clock. Economical for the city's data!!!
Be the first to ReplyVery good address!
Expect a wait when you arrive (45 minutes arriving at 7 p.m.) But it's worth it: very friendly servers and a great meal! To do !
Be the first to ReplyJust join the line , you won't be disappointed.
After seeing the line while wandering around the old town it peaked my interest in Gastabud so I checked it out on TA to see it was indeed very popular and seemed good so I returned later that evening to try it for myself as they do not take reservations. The line is well managed and you are moved inside once your table is nearly available which is good as it gets cold waiting outside ! The menu is interesting for a UK visitor as there are definitely Swedish items which you would not see on a menu at home. Started with the marinated reindeer which came with salad and crispbreads and it was quite delicious , the reindeer taste was not as strong as I was expecting. The Janssons frestelse was very rich and flovorsome , a dish of potato gratin, herring and lots of cheese , a truly Swedish dish. Mains course of meatballs was rustic and a decent portion (213 SEK) and most importantly , they tasted great , plenty of mashed potato and gravy with a side of cucumber and lingonberries. The salmon on a neighboring table looked to be a good choice too. Wine although expensive was reasonable for Stockholm, a bottle (flaska) of red was 440 SEK, water was complimentary and refilled without asking which was nice. Service throughout the meal was super, friendly yet attentive plates were cleared away quickly and the bill came when asked for. Total for everything came to 1,198 SEK and you get the option to add a 5 / 10 / 15 /20 percent tip to the card reader before you pay. Don't arrive too late and they close the kitchen before 10 and stop people joining the line around 8.45/9.00. Enjoy Gastabud !

Small and friendly place! I went to dinner with my boyfriend, and personally we weren't impressed but all in all not bad.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious salmon dish
Small restaurant with very friendly service. When we arrived there was a queue, as they don't take reservations, but we didn't have to wait long. We had salmon, which was simply delicious.
Be the first to ReplySuper cozy & delicious
We were here as a family with our 7-year-old daughter. We were given a very warm welcome in a beautiful, small, quaint restaurant. There are no special children's dishes, but dishes can be prepared in small portions. We had shrimp with toast as a starter, a salmon dish and of course meatballs - all very tasty. We'd love to come back!!

Wonderful traditional small Swedish menu. Everything was delicious and the service top notch, speedy and very friendly. Intimate setting. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal in the old town
Superb meals including the reindeer salad and the house speciality - meatballs and mash was top notch. Well worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyGood food. Nice atmosphere.
Small restaurants but big flavors and good service. Tried the mixed herring plate as an appetizer and really like the mustard and the pickle ones. For entree tried the pig cheeks and my wife the meatballs. Both were good and the sauce delicious.
Be the first to ReplyA feel like home restaurant with great food
The moment we came in we interacted with the warm and friendly staff. The food was absolutely amazing and served quickly. Loved the place and will come back!
Be the first to ReplySame as every other review, this place is brilliant and borders on a must visit.
There is a reason this place is so well reviewed, it is excellent. The food, delicious, we had the Meatballs and the Pork Cheeks and it was all perfect. It is a beautiful building, inside and out, in a great location. Service was good, it isn't expensive. It looks like there are normally queues, we went for late lunch at half 2 and there was no line, we got a table straight away, so maybe go out of peak times to avoid a wait. Also must mention the music, excellent playlist throughout!

Nothing fancy, which is a plus—just tasty food at reasonable prices (by Stockholm standards). Had Swedish meatballs for lunch that were good enough to motivate me to come back another evening for butter fried salmon. Nice portion, cooked deliciously. Worth the wait for a seat at the bar. There’s a reason this is the one restaurant in Gamla Stad where there’s often a line!

French and alone for 3 months in Sweden, I discovered this restaurant during my first day in Stockholm. I was a bit lost and I started to wait in the queue to enter the restaurant, after I saw it was one of the better graduated on Tripadvisor around me. What a wonderful surprise ! During the three months, I was not living in Stockholm, but everytime I went in Stockholm, I stopped to eat here ! The dishes were really nice. Simple but very well cooked and not too expensive. The waitors and waitresses welcomed me warmly and were very kind, everytime. The price for the dinner is good for eating well in Stockholm, and the time to receive the dishes is quick. Then you can eat quickly, before taking a train for example, (the station is at 20 mn by walk of the restaurant, and there is a subway stop near), or you can take your time in this good atmosphere. Be careful, you cannot book a table. Then, just stay in the queue and wait your turn to discover this nice restaurant ! ;) I strongly recommend.

It can’t get any better than this!
Absolut delicious food and extrem friendly staff! If I had the choice of giving 10 stars I would!
Delicious and worth the wait ;-)
As a party of 5 we arrived early and still the place was packed. After a few minute we were lucky and got seated. The service was super nice and the food delicious. We can highly recommend this place and would definitely come back if it hasn't been our last night in Stockholm.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic
Our timing was very lucky, and we were given an outside table within about 10 minutes of arrival. Those after us didn’t fare so well, so be prepared to wait. It’s well worth it, though. The food was delicious, and service was just beautiful. The wonderful gentleman attending us even put a smile on our cantankerous toddler’s face- I’ve never seen the little monkey eat so much. Definitely worth a visit, whether you’re a couple, family or solo guest. Larger groups may find you’re waiting for quite a while- we arrived just after 5pm, and it got very busy shortly after that. Thank you Stockholms Gastabud for a fantastic first meal in Sweden!
Be the first to ReplyWow. Very good
Small place that seems to be run by a small group of Families. They are super pleasant and very efficient. Food was excellent for a good price and unpretentious. There isn’t a lot of room in the restaurant so get there on an off time if thing are busy. I enjoyed the cod and my son had the salmon which he liked. Good for small families and couples
Be the first to ReplyLovely!
Wondeful food, cosy and quaint. Big line up outside but don't let this put you off - we got seated fairly quickly and didn't wait long for the food. Would recommend!
Be the first to ReplyCosy, great food, wonderful hosts, and great service describe Gastabud
First, thanks to all the Trip Advisors who posted the reviews that led us to Stockholm Gastabud. On our first night in Sweden's capital we ate at a nearby restaurant, Tradition, for an early evening dinner. (Would rate that white tablecloth place a 5 as well.) Leaving that restaurant in a wet drizzle we passed by Gastabud, and saw a line of people standing under umbrellas waiting to get in this little jewel on Österlånggatan in Gamla Stan. We just had to check it out a few days later.
Our patience was rewarded. We went in for an early dinner and sat at the bar because all other tables - only 15-18 of them - were occupied. Turned out to be a great choice because we had wonderful conversation with the two young ladies who are running the place. They were cordial and a delight to talk with. They were not harried at all, seemingly enjoying their duties.
I had the cod fish with potatoes, and my companion had the fish soup. Both superb, except that the fish was a bit overly salty. Would still order it again. The apple dumpling and raspberry manicotti topped off a fully satisfying meal.
Because the space is rather small, expect to wait unless you go early, but by all means enjoy this Old Town culinary delight.
