Exceeded Expectations
We were visiting from out of town and dined here for my birthday. I watch a lot of cooking shows, and was very excited to eat at an Edward Lee restaurant. His staff and food exceeded my expectations. The space is beautiful. We received a warm greeting, and our server was friendly. We had the dirty chicken, pimento burger, a beet/citrus salad, and hummingbird cake. Every bite was so good. For my birthday, they also presented me with a plate of miniatures (hummingbird truffle and pecan pie) and a candle. Very sweet!

Our family of 2 adults, 2 teenagers arrived at 6:20 for our 6:30 reservation. Hostess took our name. About a minute later, we saw a booth table being cleaned off, and Iโd noticed one other clean and set table open. When the booth was cleaned and set with new glassware, we . . . stood there in the tiny space between the front door and the host stand, while the hostess occasionally shuffled menus as if she was maybe going to seat us, and would set them back down. She did this like 3 times in 8 minutes, and there was no one else requiring seating in the meantime (a couple people arrived meeting people at the bar). This is a small, tight place, and I felt very conspicuous standing up at the front and having to shuffle around for people walking through or exiting. We stood there, blocking occasional exiting traffic, for a solid 8 minutes, when at precisely 6:30 she sat us at the booth that was available the whole time. Bizarre. Most restaurants will seat you a few minutes early if they have availability, which both Rasika and Old Ebbitt did the nights before, because seating people early gets them out early, which increases the number of people you can seat in a night, which increase money made. Then we sat the booth for a full 15 minutes before a server stopped by, at all. No one even stopped by to say, โhey Iโll be with you as soon as I can.โ We were on the verge of leaving and discussing where to go, when I saw two servers waking our way, and I told my husband letโs see if one of them stops, and if not letโs go. The second one was our server, who apologized but gave no reason for the delay. From there it was mostly fine, although we again to wait a long time between finishing dinner and getting a dessert menu. That being said, the food was incredible, which is what the 3 stars are for. The bacon jam deviled eggs and chocolate pecan pie, and wanting to try the banana pudding, would probably be enough for me to go back, but only if I had more than 2 nights in DC. And Iโd arrive 1 minute past my reservation time and not a minute sooner.
Be the first to ReplyChicken and Waffles never Arrived
Went to Succotash to get delicious chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits before a Caps game. Sat at the bar. The drinks were fantastic, the shrimp and grits were good too. I ordered chicken and waffles and watermelon and fried peanut salad. A chicken sandwich and citrus salad showed up instead of my order. I pointed out that I had ordered neither. We waited another 20 minutes enjoying a delicious espresso martini, but the chicken and waffles order never did arrive. We ended up talking to the manager, who was apologetic. It was time to go to the game, and we had to leave, so I remain hungry. The manager offered to sell us a to go order. Instead, we paid for our drinks and the shrimp and grits, and the manager graciously removed the chicken and waffles that I did not get from our bill. I don't know how this happened, but I went away with very mixed feelings. The bar service was great. The kitchen pretty much failed.
Be the first to ReplyFaux Southern
This restaurant was average. Itโs supposed to be a restaurant with southern cuisine, but IMHO itโs a restaurant just trying to be southernโor โfaux southernโ as I like to call it. It might fool some folks, but not southerners.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and food
Our waitress was amazing and the duck dish that I had was excellent (though the waitress immediately saw that the duck was not cooked when it first arrived and whisked it back to the kitchen before I could say anything). The restaurant is busy and the dishes took a very long time to come out, which is why I am only giving it four stars. Even giving ourselves plenty of time before a performance at Ford's Theatre, we could not stay for dessert; we ran out of time.
Be the first to ReplyBest Waffles Ever
My first Michelin-star restaurant. My wife wants to drive back to DC just to go here again. The waffles are outstanding as was the service. A bit pricey but worth the splurge and it is not even expensive by Manhattan standards. Will return.

Arrived without reservation Sunday noonish... The wait was 30 minutes so we decided to stay. FYI, property info on TA is out of date as proof of immunizations wasn't requested. Stood outside until the table was ready. Food was as one would expect at a Beard chef's establishment. Favorites were lobster Benedict, crab cakes, and shrimp and grits. The ham and cheese hush puppies were the only thing we'd not order again..
Be the first to ReplySuccotash Prime is a great place to eat. Had lunch there. Chicken and waffles& crab cakes sandwiches. Delicious

Be the first to ReplyGood variety of tasty food.
Our server was terrific, explaining the specials and making menu and cocktail recommendations. Two of us had ribs, one a burger, and I had chicken and waffles, which were perfect.

Great Food and Service! We decided to try the Taste of the South. It is served family style for at least 2 people. There were 2 of us that shared the meal. It was a bit too much food. Everything was really good, but there were a few items that we especially liked: smoked chicken wings, shrimp'N'grits, Mac and Cheese. The service was some of the best I've had in awhile. I'm just bummed I can't remember his name !

Fantastic meal made better by fun and professional staff. Our family of 4 enjoyed a great meal - with good options for all tastes - best burger we have had in years, delicious crab cake and chicken and waffles. Southern meal that left us all happy.
Be the first to ReplyGreat environment - food disappointing
I attended a dinner with a pre-arranged menu. There were some hits (crab cakes, cornbread, fried green tomato salad, banana pudding) and some definite misses. All of the entrees were lacking (fried catfish had no taste, chicken and waffles were greasy, strip steak was tough and overcooked. We ate upstairs in a very nice space and for sure this is a nice venue. Appears to have been an old bank. Service was excellent. Doubt I'd go back though.

Our excellent waiter Josh steered us through the Taste of the South and we enjoyed it immensely. Generous portions and tasty plates!

We had the most delicious meal and it was more than we expected! Everything from the hush puppies to the banana pudding. Al of the waiters were so kind. I wouldnโt hesitate to go back!
Be the first to ReplyRude management
Let me begin by saying that the waiting staff was incredible. They made sure we received our food and drinks in a timely manner. They were also kind and courteous. However, the management was incredibly rude and dismissive. We had planned a birthday party for 20+ people and the Tayler (manager) was consistently rude. For example, before the dessert came out, he let us know that we could eat our dessert in five minutes or be charged for another hour at $425. We had no control over the cadence of the food and was not told this before the 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I will not be attending again.
Be the first to ReplyRude lady
We booked the table online and when we arrived we asked to see the menu as their website wasnโt working. I let the lady on the desk know that there was an issue with the website and she shrugged her shoulders, looked at me blankly and said that she didnโt know why I was telling her that as there is nothing she can do about it. We put the menus down and cancelled the booking. She had a foul attitude so sensed we were not welcome. Disappointing
Be the first to ReplyInteresting fusion of flavors
The service and food in this restaurant were both very good. Traditional American dishes (think Southern states) with a Korean influence make for some delicious flavours. My husband had the cheese burger with the Gochujang ketchup and Mint Julep Ice Cream for dessert and both got really high praise. I had couple of side dishes and no main as I was not particularly hungry - corn cakes and mac and cheese. Both were ok. My pudding, however, was pecan pie and it was very overbaked and dry - bit of a disappointment. Restaurant inside is quite pleasant but one thing that I found a little bit odd the air con was a little bit too strong and it felt too cold. I could see some people had coats on - I guess depending where you are seated (I think the booths are directly under the air con vents and this is where we were seated) If we are in DC again, I would not mind visiting this place - but only 4 stars from me due to pecan pie not being as nice as it could have been.
Be the first to ReplyAt best average
Service was just terrible. Called a waiter 3 times just to order a drink for my guests. Went to a private room downstairs. Service awful. There seemed to be a scarcity of glasses as we ordered a wine glass which took ages to arrive. When it did waitress put empty glass in front of guest and left. I, the host stood up and served wine to my guests. After dinner was joined by another guest. Tried to get a drink, noone would serve at 9.45. So we asked for bill and again noone would bring. My guest walked up and said if you do not bring bill we are leaving. Reluctantly we were brought the bill. All in all at best average.
Be the first to ReplyThe downtown location 915 FSt, it's not to bad, if you don't mind driving around to look for parking
When you enter the restaurant. The appearance, the atmosphere is clam and, clean and welcoming. Love the nice booth seating. My friends and I were immediately seated. The waiter arrived as soon as we were seated. The waiter was friendly. However, The menu is not a big deal, could be better. The drinks were ok. The corn bread arrived to our table room temperature. The crab cate was good. The shrimp and grits. The shrimp was tasteful. However, the grits were not good. The grits taste like they were instant and you get a small portion. The other dishes . Deviled eggs were ordered. They were cute, but no one finished them. Fried green tomato salad. The tomato's weren't bad, the salad was left on the plate. The roasted Salmon was ok etc... Overall, I give the restaurant a 2-3. Will I return? "No, I don't think so"

Had a wonderful time for Thanksgiving dinner. Very accommodating for my vegetarian husband and vegan exchange student from Germany. Thank you for going the extra mile on a very busy night!

The restaurant is housed in a beautifully preserved former bank built in 1912 - evocative of Paris or some other European locale - which gives it a unique and elegant atmosphere. The food was outstanding. My dinner companion and I had the salmon and shrimp and grits entrees. The crab cake appetizer was also a treat. We finished with the chocolate ganache, at the suggestion of our server, and it was beyond. I brought the leftovers home for my teenager with good intentions but he never saw them. You will have a great experience at Succotash Prime.

I saw good review but it is really average restaurant. I ate a smoked salmon tasted is nothing. Bartender told they are cooking fresh salmon thatโs why they donโt want to use any seasonal or marine. Also if you are sitting after 4 pm they will add %20 gratuity.

They are working so hard to take care of the community during this most trying time. Itโs extraordinary to watch them do what they do. They deserve all our support.

Loved the biscuits and gravy; and my southern bloody Mary was a great wake up drink, As a single diner who didn't want to sit in a 2 seater in the middle of the room, a little awkward at first; but the host found me a comfortable place at the end of the bar. Loved the experience.

I've lunched a couple of times at Succotash and on each occasion the food has been excellent. Starters I've sampled include: hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs and the delicious fried oysters. Entrees - a wonderful chicken sandwich, dirty chicken cobb salad (with some heat) and the burger with pimento; all very good. The sweet tea is delightful as is the light, airy dining hall/bar which makes for a nice dining experience. The only wrinkle, service has been a bit uneven especially on a recent Monday! when I had to wait 45 minutes for my food. Other than that issue, Succotash is certainly a spot in Penn Quarter worth visiting .
