Meh
Went here for a birthday with a party of 6 mid afternoon on a Saturday. We were seated immediately. Only two single use bathrooms in the restaurant and one was broken so there was a line to just even wash hands. I had high hopes for this place because it came highly recommended. However the menu was small but pricey and when the food came out it wasn’t anything remarkable. I hate paying good money for mediocre food. Not a bad place but not anywhere I’d go back to nor recommend in the future.

I have had Sugarfish at several locations. Always dine in except tonight, I ordered the “trust me” dinner box carry out. Sushi are meant to be immediately consume upon being made; therefore, I was skeptical as how good it could be. To my surprise, the carry out was really good. It came in a box with pictures snd descriptions of what everything is, as if the serve would bring each to your table and give a description of what is served for the evening ~ quite entertaining and a fun read 😆
Be the first to ReplyNo Love for Sugarfish
I'm sure when this chain first opened under the direction of Nozawa it was something special to experience. But when you go mass market, as is the case now with numerous location, important aspects can be lost in the transition. Such is the case with the Pasadena version of Sugarfish. As we all start emerging from the Covid-enforced hibernation, its great to experience something new; not normal. So, with that spirit in mind, I took off for Sugarfish. It was a recent Saturday night, and there was a unanticipated crush and the wait for take out orders approached two hours. (Bad sign of understaffing.) Not having had sushi for over year, I took the gamble. The result was disappointing. To start. the menu is limited and no special orders are allowed. They strongly promoted their combination plates with a play on the "trust me" theme. Sorry, I know what I like; not what you like. The cut rolls were poorly constructed and virtually fell apart upon first touch. The "tuna sashimi" was nothing more than tuna scraps that no genuine sushi chef would ever serve. The sushi itself was pedestrian but not worth waiting for on any night. The overworked staff were upbeat and nice despite being overworked and taxed by the demands for both take out and outdoor dining. (Maybe hire some more people?) Sugarfish might be ok on a quite night at a slow moment, when you can order what you want. But it is not worth the time or effort on the weekend. Maybe not at all if you are a sushi regular.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi in Pasadena. Hands
Best sushi in Pasadena. Hands down. The crab hand roll and sweet shrimp sushi are AMAZING. I think you are capped at ordering three of any hand-roll, which kind of sucks if you're hungry and only like two items on the menu. The matcha iced green tea is also delicious. I like that the gratuity is built in, so there the service is very team oriented.

Be the first to ReplyGreat Sushi HINTS
Went here on business with about 6 people and and we were not disappointed. Here are some hints; 1. Make a reservation 2. It’s tapas style so order for yourself not the table ... the dishes are small. 3. Great Sapporo Beer! Enjoy!

First ate at the Sugarfish in the valley and hoped this would be as good. It was even better. We each had the Trust Me, perfect amount - everything delicious. What also impressed me was how each person who served us was genuinely warm and friendly. It just made for a pleasant atmosphere. We were talking about wanting to return.

Carefully seasoned sauces -- don't dip in soy sauce, please, complement the sushi on warm rice, sashimi, and maki rolls served uncut. At least these were the offerings on the set "Trust Me" menu, heartily recommended. The service is brisk and competent, the ambiance informal. Somewhat pricey but no tipping and very high quality.

This place is definitely one of the best sushi I've ever had. It was quite pricey, but given the high quality of fish, I think it's definitely worth it. The wait can be long, so I usually come right when they open for lunch. I have tried both the Trust Me and the Nozawa Trust Me, and I liked both. If you're really hungry (and don't mind the food coma afterwards) then go for the Nozawa Trust Me. The Trust Me set is also good if you want to order additional dishes. I got the unagi one time and the bay scallop cut rolls the other time, and both were amazingly delicious. The service was amazing; the waiters introduce the dish whenever they bring them out and the pace was perfect, so you won't stuff yourself like at AYCE restaurants and actually have time to digest and enjoy. Parking in Pasadena was painful tho. I would definitely come back to this place once in a while for some high-quality sushi.
