Sushi Nonaka New York Reviews from The Last Year
Had a lovely evening with friends.
Ordered soju, wine, and lots of apps. The cucumbers were addictive and the shishito peppers were delicious. Can't wait to go back and sit in the garden.

We have been seeking a new sushi experience on the UWS due to many places closing or not A-rated. Tonight we tried Sushi Nonaka and were transported to a zen state with superb food and perfect service. From the hostess to our server, we felt welcome and appreciated. We shall return!

Nice outdoor seating, but the food is overpriced for what you get. My sushi set was good, no complaints. However, we also got some rolls, and each of these was about $16 give or take, for pretty average rolls that you could get for half price elsewhere. The rolls also had chopped fish like you'd get for spicy tuna for some reason, instead of larger pieces, which was odd.
Great atmosphere and service.
I can feel the vibe of traditional Japanese sushi bar with experienced Japanese chef.
There are so many better omakases in New York City.
The food was OK but nothing to write home about. And it's severely overpriced. The staff is very friendly but it's just not worth your time or money.
Sushi Nonaka undoubtedly stands out as one of the finest
Sushi Nonaka undoubtedly stands out as one of the finest sushi spots in the Upper West Side! The hospitality here was exceptional--everyone was incredibly courteous and attentive. Despite its cozy size, accommodating around 7 groups, the personalized service never falters. The culinary experience matches the exceptional service. Each dish boasts remarkable quality and meticulous attention to detail. I savored the exquisite Saba Mirin, which not only was reasonably priced but also accompanied by delightful and flavorful sides. Already looking forward to my next visit--it's an experience I'm eagerly anticipating!
This review is for their lunch takeout.
Amazing value for high-quality food!! We got donkatsu bento box twice already in the last couple of days. My usual lunch spot for Japanese food was sushi yasaka, but so glad to find this place which is closer without compromising food quality. Hope more ppl order lunch from this place so that they offer more variety.

Don't be deceived by the empty seats when you look into the restaurant. The omakase sushi bar and outdoor seatings located downstairs are where the actions are taking place. Midweek dinner was not crowded at all. Nothing pretentious. Just fresh and delicious sushi.
This place has grown on us.
We just had to find the appropriate niche for our purposes! Although truth be told, for a date night with hours to spare, the Pardner and I would probably go elsewhere for omakase, when we are in the market for a neighborhood standard that welcomes our entire family -- Sushi Nonaka is truly top notch. We recently brought a pretty tough crowd of two adult sushi noobs; two children who are not noobs, but narrow in their preferences (they mostly just like hamachi negi); and a nine-month old, 50+ lb pup. Everyone left very happy. Nonaka serves excellent sashimi for the price range and a number of dishes (appetizers) for non-sushi eaters. Our appetizers of seaweed salad, cucumbers and agedashi tofu were simple, but well-seasoned, well-balanced, and delicious. The seaweed salad included several different kinds of seaweed of different colors, lightly, perfectly dressed. The children ordered maki, which were made with proper, short grain rice. The ratio of fish to rice was perfect in our book, the fish of high enough quality that our sensitive kids didn't reject it as being "too fishy." Those who ordered the standard sushi set meal received accessible nigiri (rice to fish ratio a touch high), all reportedly made with high quality neta. I think the fishiest neta was probably the mackerel. (Not sure if it was saba or aji.) My sashimi set menu was surprisingly excellent. Fish was served at a perfect (not overly cold) temperature and all were buttery, well-aged where appropriate, flavorful. IIRC, there was branzino (suzuki perhaps), hamachi, maguro, hotate, ebi (super sweet), and madai. A bowl of good, short-grain rice came with the sashimi, and preceding all of this, a bowl of good miso with the cutest little mushrooms. Given that I'm a big snot, I don't always find the nigiri to be perfect at Nonaka, but based on this visit, the sashimi I would not hesitate to get again and again. Wasabi was not freshly grated, but was a step up from the low-brow green paste served at run-of-the-mill US establishments, with a "clearer" flavor and better texture. I'm not quite sure how they achieved this effect. Did they mix freshly grated wasabi into dyed green horseradish paste? (That would seem a waste of good wasabi!) In any event, I can't say enough good things about the hospitality, including the kindness shown to our pup. (They brought her a ceramic bowl of water!) If I could give them 10 stars for hospitality, I would. The itamae was the same gentleman we saw on two prior visits. I haven't been able to find out his name, but it's clear that there is some talent, here. Our kids have asked for a return visit. And the adult sushi noobs have pledged to return. I love that Sushi Nonaka is the perfect gateway for introducing folks to sushi and sashimi that is truly worth eating without (1) breaking the bank or (2) requiring noobs to sit before an itamae, which can be intimidating for them, irksome for the itamae. So glad to have this in the neighborhood!
Very fresh and tasty sushi.
Staff was attentive and kind. The lower alley seating is a great spot. If no one is in the main seating area don't let it fool you. They are all likely downstairs or in the alley.
Truly amazing quality and service for the value.
A gem on the upper west side. We will be regulars
Ok where do I even start? So when we arrived with
Ok where do I even start? So when we arrived with reservations, the host let us know right away that they raised the omakase bar seating price by an additional $100. We passed and sat on a table instead. Not a big deal. We ordered our appetizers, fried squid legs ($13) and shrimp and vegetable tempuras. The fried squid was crispy and lightly seasoned. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was a joke. We literally sat there and stared at it. It was not crispy and came out cold and you can see all this grease on the paper. Nothing special about it! It's like Trader Joe's shrimp tempura. Super small 3 pc shrimp and a quarter size 2 pc vegetable hashes. FOR $22!!!!!!!! We thought the vegetable was coming out separately but it was hiding under the shrimps. I didn't understand it. See photo for reference. We got the 10 pc omakase set ($115) and 8pc sushi set ($48). Really basic and nothing special. Miso soup was bland. We let our server know that the tempura appetizer was confusing and we were not pleased. She gave us a free glass of wine and a free pickled cucumbers. She was very sweet and very understanding. The only reason why I gave this place an additional star. The pickled cucumbers were so salty! Literally you can see sprinkles of salt on the top. We literally dunked the cucumbers into our bland miso to balance it all out. Total price was $300. So not worth it. We left unsatisfied because I wanted to try to this place out for the longest time and it was very disappointing. Sushi gari and kissaki will always be my all time favorite nyc sushi places!

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
|
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome
to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
|
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
|
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Is Appointment Trader is legit ??
I have 1.3k in my balance but I can do nothing with it because my positve sales is 73%.
I can't list new reservation so I can't grow this rate so I am blocked. The support doesn't answer, I wonder if this platform is not a scam
Honest review of AT and advice to new joiners
Forget trying to snipe reservations online by waking up early and booking top restaurants at Carbone or Tatiana or Cote or 4Charles. After 2.5 months of booking reservations by setting up alarms, waking up early to sell appointments. It’s very hard to cash out on this app. During cash out, you have to pay $5 fee +3% transactions fee and max payout per day is $150.
Advice to new users:
- do not mass book reservations
- fill bids only
- don’t try to book reservations online, you need connections and call the restaurant
After putting in about 40 hours of work, I’ve made about $750 sale on this platform but gotten paid $0. Take this with a grain of salt.
Fraud
I believe this site to be a fraud. I paid $158 to get a reservation. Now they want my SS # and other private details in order to supposedly repay me.

Hello All,
I don’t know what else to do as I can’t transfer my cleared funds to my bank account. Customer support is close to non existing and not helpful. How can we keep selling here if we can’t withdraw what we have worked for. They say I have to wait 180 days. This is ridiculous!
Via Carota

Give the best answerPayout limits? Have 1k…
Am confused about the payout restrictions. Have nearly $1k sitting, wanted to withdraw some and am surprised to see I can only withdraw $50. If i have to do this everyday I’ll end up paying over $90 in fees just for withdrawing via ACH which doesn’t make much sense to me. Have opened a ticket regarding this, but any input or advice would be appreciated

Give the best answerAny seller support?
Has anyone found a way to get a question answered? From what I can tell there is no way to get in touch with anyone that works at/for AT. Other than the occasional admin posting a consultation offer here and there they are non existent. A lot of people have the same issue I have where we cannot cash out earnings. I cannot get my warning medal removed even though I am under the threshold. Sad to say but seems like AT is holding up everyone’s funds currently. Very scary and makes me wonder….Please reply if you read this admins and can help. Tried every way possible to get in touch

Give the best answerRestaurant Bought/Canceled Their Own Reservation
I accepted a bid for a popular restaurant in Los Angeles only to receive a phone call shortly thereafter informing me that the reservation had been canceled due to it being listed on AT. I of course need to subsequently cancel the reservation on AT but get this warning that my status will be negatively affected for doing so. I've reached out to customer support about this several times with no response, not sure what to do in this station. Hoping someone can advise.

Give the best answerQuestion about postpaid listings for prepaid bookings
I have a prepaid reservation, but I'm allowed to transfer that reservation to others for a price that I set (up to the total price I paid).
For selling POSTPAID reservations, do I charge the buyer the full amount of the reservation when transferring? And then the buyer pays something on top of that (which is what is listed in the AppointmentTrader listing?)
Major Issue for Seller
My money is being held hostage! Can you please remove my refund medal as I am below the 11% threshold and should be able to withdraw my full daily amount now? I have been teying for a long time to get a reply on this. Major issue for people looking to do good/right like you ask and make positive sales. Being able to access earned revenue is critical and not getting any reply is very concerning for your sellers. Lot of other people having the same issue. Once below the threshold you should auto remove the warning medals.

Give the best answerWell through rate holding money for 180 days
Just wanted to put this out there as I find it quite weird. AT will hold money if your sell through rate is to low. I find this strange as you would think that sell through rate should reflect more on AT not marketing their site well enough to generate sales. It seems weird to punish sellers for listings not selling.
