Sushi Sasabune is an Omakase only sushi restaurant that ranges in price, depending on how many courses you end up eating, i.e., it is not actually priced in full but by the item. I found this to be a little deceiving since (at least in my experience) omakases are a typically a set menu with a set price (e.g., 10 courses for $100). In other words, you can stop after 2 items and just pay for those 2 items if you wish. But ultimately, that was only partially why I gave it 1 star. The sushi and nigiri itself is solid; the fish taste fresh and the items are done with care. But there were two major issues:1. Wasabi on each item is over done. Some of our pieces were completely smeared with a thick layer of wasabi between the rice and fish which can over-power the taste of both fish and rice, masking all other flavors.2. The specialization and curated sushi was, honestly, a bit "cheap" or gimmicky. It was mostly a piece of sushi with some type of sauce or flavoring on top. For example, salmon with a lomi lomi on top or tuna with jalepeno on top or scallop with yuzu on top, etc. It was rather repetitive. Combine that with point #1, it can be difficult to taste the full combination of flavors.Overall, Sushi Sasabune was not the omakase nor sushi experience that I had expected based on the reviews and price point. I think if it was half the cost, it would be more reasonable for the culinary experience that it was.
