Will never not love this place.
My fave neighborhood spot. Delicious, friendly, great staff, cozy, SUCH A VIBE. Suzume has stolen my heart since day one!

While making the difficult decision on what to eat (with the company of the pup), my friend and I decided to head to Williamsburg, where the doggos are loved. Outdoor dining? Check. Yummy food? Check. So y'all know we headed to Suzume. From start to finish, food was absolutely AMAZING. Serious deliciousness in every single bite. The musubis had just the right balance of spam, rice & seaweed without being overly salty. The butter wings just had the right kick of spicy and the ginger garlic sauce complimented it perfectly (ask for extra if ya could because it was SO good). The salmon and tuna have a nice contrast to the crispy rice if you decide to order that. And lastly, I was super glad the poke bowl wasn't super large and yesssss, thank you for including the fried lotus root. The staff was super helpful. Our server gave us a bowl of water for our pup and we also ordered him the fried chicken, which was nicely cut up for him so he could chew on the chunks.Thank you for being amazing! We (and our pup) appreciate it :)

Every time I have gone, I have had nothing but a positive experience!

Came here around 5:30pm on a Saturday without making reservations and got really lucky because they open at 5pm and not long after being seated, the restaurant for super packed!! Make sure to make reservations! My friend and I ordered:- Spam Musubi: it wasnt bad, nothing crazy about it. It had grilled spam, pineapple teriyaki, furikake, nori, and scallion. - Spicy Butter Wings: pretty good! Had a good kick to it. We were able to do happy hour so we got the wings with a kirin beer and a shot. I believe we got 6 pieces. - Pork Ramen - Standard, can't go wrong with it. It was tonkatsu broth, braised pork shoulder, bok choy, wood-ear mushroom, chili oil. - Hawaiian Fried Chicken Bowl - Eh, wasn't our favorite. It was fried chicken, pineapple macaroni salad, pickled red onions, and pineapple. I thought the chicken was too fried. Happy hour is from 6-7pm on Mon-Sat and from 5-6pm on Sun! For $18, we could choose either wings or friend chicken bao and it comes with a kirin beer and a shot. The shots options were Sauza tequila, Tito's vodka, and Hellcat Whiskey. Good vibes and friendly + attentive staff (always ready to clear out some of our empty plates).

We recommend the salmon ramen or pork ramen, veggie poke bowl was good too for something somewhat on the lighter side. The atmosphere is super cozy and nice. A unique spot you can keep going back too.
Be the first to ReplyEXTREMELY OVERPRICED.
i cannot believe the crispy rice tuna appetizer was 8 dollars each! It's a measly 2 inch fried rice square, smeared in spicy mayo with less than a teaspoon full of tuna. Then, i ordered a veggie ramen that came out HALF EMPTY! How does the kitchen send out a SOUP that's half full? Yet, you're charging 20 dollars! Not only that, the little bit of vegetables in the ramen were over cooked. The broth was tasty, but didn't taste like a traditional ramen. Seems the ramen taste more like a spanish soup with added noodles. 86 dollars later. Not satisfied. Not full. Oh, and the suggestions for tip are 22-25 percent? Are you joking? Lol. when have nyc dining tip percentages change? It's 15, 18 or 20 percent. Let's not be greedy folks ;)
Be the first to ReplyFirst off.
The veggie ramen was the best i have had in 5 years in the city. The broth was creamy and so flavorful i am shocked i haven't been here before. Strongly recommend to add the poached egg if you aren't vegan. the service was great they were welcoming and kind. Also ordered warm sake which was good. the Ramen was the star of the show for sure. I walked in with no reservation at 7:15 but it got packed pretty soon after. lighting and music was great.

We came for some late night ramen and tried both the pork and salmon ramen. The pork ramen was incredibly salty while the salmon ramen was incredibly bland. It's also pretty crowded in there, and it was a little difficult to get the attention of a server. Wouldn't come back for dinner since both ramen bowls weren't great in different ways, but maybe you're meant to just to grab a drink at the bar?

First time I visited on a gloomy evening - and I will be returning! I had the veggie ramen (with pork) and it was fantastic. Also had the crispy rice with tuna and salmon, great flavor, but my favorite of the night was the chicken bao. Lord it was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside - the balance (chefs kiss).Overall this cozy spot is great for a meal or a drink, the bar is well stocked and the chill ambience will have me coming back for more.

Credit cards ARE accepted here, but there is a 4% discount if paid in cash. Not sure when this changed. Came here on a Friday night and was seated right away. This place has a chill vibe with polite and attentive servers. A key theme of this review is high prices with not a lot to show for them. Spam Musubi: These were okay. Inside the seaweed is mainly spam, rice, and pineapple; in my opinion, the pineapple doesn't go great with the rest. A relatively simple wrap, the musubi could have been so much more. I would recommend spicing up this dish with different combinations of ingredients and cutting the price down significantly. Recommend marinated spam, rice, egg with an umami seasoning (which I've loved in the past). Crispy Rice Tuna: Some of my favorite bites were of these crispy rice tuna pieces. Fried to perfection, perfectly square, and topped with a nice dollop of marinated tuna, these were great. That said, no one should charge $8 each for these. Yuya's Hamachi Poke Bowl: My entree was pretty tasty, with notes of lemon throughout. The sauce coating the yellowtail was good and went well with everything. The potato crisps were tasty and added a nice amount of crunch and saltiness to the dish. Overall, I liked this dish, but it was hardly an entree -- more of a sharable appetizer at this size. Pork Ramen: A little disappointed here. The size of this dish was fair, but I wasn't a big fan overall. I enjoyed the mushrooms and bok choy, but the pork could have been better seasoned and more tender and the broth could have been a bit punchier. Service/Atmosphere: Waiter was very nice and helpful with the menu. Very small cash only restaurant. For a table of two, we waited five minutes to be seated. Food: Salmon ramen was more on the gingery side. Fish tacos were bad. Fish was dry and overcooked with thick batter. It had a small amount of fish and it seemed like the fish from frozen fish sticks. Spam musubi was good but not worth the price.Dishes were decent but the quality did not match up to the price.

This place is awesome!!! Randomly decided to go with my boyfriend because we were meeting people at a nearby bar after dinner. We got the musubi to start which was a great app! The seaweed was nice and chewy and the rice inside was perfectly cooked. It also had small chunks of pineapple in it and a tasty sauce. Then, I got the salmon ramen and my boyfriend got the Hawaiian fried chicken bowl. I had my doubts about the salmon ramen but it worked really well!!! The spicy miso broth was soooo tasty. The Hawaiian fried chicken bowl was amazing. The chicken itself was perfectly seasoned and fried and it came with cut pineapples, rice, pickled onions, and a super yummy Mac salad. We walked in and got seated right away. The inside is very cozy and cute and the bar area is decorated nicely. The service was very friendly. I'd definitely recommend this place in the future and I'm glad I randomly decided to go!The only thing you should know before you go is that it's cash only!!! Luckily I had enough cash on me to cover our meal, but there's also an atm in the back.

My friends and I came here after we found out that another restaurant nearby had a super long wait time. We joined the yelp waitlist for Suzume and were seated as soon as we walked in. The restaurant is cash only- there's an ATM around the back where you can withdraw money if you don't have any cash on hand. I ordered the garlic shrimp noodles which came with buttered ramen. The flavors were quite mild, almost bland. My friends ordered the salmon ramen and the fried chicken bowl, which they thought was mid for the high price point. The star of the show was the mac salad that we ordered on the side. It was light, creamy, sweet, and savory-- the perfect balance of flavors and textures. We each ended up spending around $25 per person for really basic food. It was done well, but each dish felt like it wasn't fully quite there flavor-wise. It was a nice place to eat for the night, but it didn't stand out enough that we'd come back again.
Be the first to ReplyVery cute spot for a date night.
Shared a roll for an appetizer and it was delicious. Salmon ramen was disappointing though and overpriced, still good just not $18 good for a small bowl.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious place for Japanese food.
Portions here can be a bit small but many things are definitely worth getting. Love getting the shishito peppers, spam musubi, any of the sushi rolls, and baos. Would say to avoid the ramen and mazemen, as I feel they aren't super up to par with the rest of the menu.Note:Cash only.
Be the first to ReplyLOVE IT.
Only had the chance to grab a quick California roll and one of the salads. Incredible. Great atmosphere, quirky little bar. Can't say enough about this place.
Be the first to ReplyRamen soup was very bland, over salted and with onions.
Couldn't finish itKarage was very salty too. Perhaps marinated too long in soy. Still looking for favorite ramen

I came here when wandering around the area on a Sunday night looking for a restaurant that could seat 2 people with no wait. Luckily this was the second place we tried, and they seated us in their heated outdoor area. Service was very good, especially considering that we were the only outdoor table when we sat down. We both got the salmon ramen. I usually prefer udon over ramen because ramen tends to be very rich and fatty, but this dish had a really delicate yet flavorful broth that was perfect for a colder night. The salmon was perfectly cooked with a nice char, and the noodles were bouncy. It was a great dining experience overall, although the portion was a tiny bit small for the price ($17).

hanon was busy so we decided to check out this place that was around the corner. pricey food for what you get and make sure to bring cash before you come to the restaurant. Their ATM tells you up front there is a $2 charge, but when I check my statements, they later pulled an additional fee without letting me know.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is about the quality of the FOOD and PRICE
This review is about the quality of the FOOD and PRICE since we ordered take out.when we got to the place we noticed that there are more items on the menu than the take out menu itself, which was a bum! the food: I'm not here to tell you how to spend your $$ but like a $9 3 pieces of lumpia, $9 overly salted half a spam musubi (spam is already salty enough) $20 for a rice bowl -japanese rice was terrible - semi uncooked, i don't know how they cooked it but they should read the instructions or get a rice cooker!$20 for a ramen. you can find something better in the area if you look hard enough! I'd give the broth 5 out of 10. ramen feels and tasted like it was frozen. pork was tender (i'll give them that but that's it) it's just not worth iti was all hype for some filipino hawaiian food but was disappointed in the end
